Is Gerald Undone right to make a hit-piece about Panasonic? Or is he, as someone who has played the game for years with Sony, in no position to be a moral authority?
For many years, the traditional advertising industry has seen a decline as social media influencers now dominate. For the camera companies, and for all the other tech companies, it is now far more economical to wine and dine social media influencers and invite them on all expenses paid trips to fancy launch events.
There’s hardly any regulation when it comes to this form of advertising.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the hypocrisy of social media influencers when they speak out about how problematic this is despite having themselves been an integral part of it for years, I have a few choice words for them all.
Panasonic meanwhile, are by far not the worse when it comes to dishonest marketing tactics and heavily orchestrated product launches on social media.
Is it unfair that an innocent camera like the Lumix S9 should be the centre of the storm over this, when Canon and Sony pioneered this kind of product launch and puppeteering of camera reviews on social media?
Does Gerald have an ulterior agenda or bias against Panasonic, unfairly making them the target of everybody’s wrath – and all because he wasn’t invited? (And for good reasons).
Meanwhile I share my own personal views as someone who has drifted in and out of the manufacturer’s so-called inner circle for a decade.
