UPDATE 2 Located the GH2’s spec sheet in English. 40fps at 4 megapixel has no limit in JPEG mode. Just 7 images in RAW. This is hugely promising for a 4k video hack. Clearly, new hardware is capable.

The calm before the storm, a few hours now before Photokina begins is a good time to take stock of where Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic are up to with their respective approaches to the market. Because in a few hours, that could all change.

Visually, it looks like a G2 with a better hand grip and ‘FullHD’ logo. Inside, things are more innovative. Panasonic’s new camera appears to focus on speed.

This is the major first step-up image quality wise from the current video DSLRs we have seen since the original benchmark set by the 5D Mark II in 2008.
