[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/114644960[/vimeo] Three of the most exciting cameras of the year, the Sony A7S, Panasonic GH4 and Samsung NX1 are about to go into a different league as far as video quality and monitoring go. The Atomos Shogun 4K monitor / recorder is now shipping ($1995 / ÂŁ1220 + VAT) and one is on the way to me, scheduled to arrive this week. I plan to put it to use with all 3 of the…

The latest news on cameras, from EOSHD
Recently I backed the fps1000 high speed camera on Kickstarter, choosing the ÂŁ1000 Platinum version with 1″ sensor. Its UK-based creator Graham Rowan says the camera will get a 4K Super 35mm sensor option in 2015. The existing camera has also been improved considerably since the initial plans, with numerous stretch goals being applied.
All will be revealed tomorrow. Until now do feel free to take your guess in the forum comments. I am using a special grading technique here for the first time which is giving beautiful results on the NX1. There will be a full blog post about this when the results are revealed. Camera settings were all on default. Picture profile turned off. Sharpening on default level for video and in Adobe Camera Raw…
If Canon announced that they were withdrawing from the enthusiast stills camera market, you’d be surprised. It’s a pretty big market. But withdraw from the enthusiast video market they almost certainly have at the moment, whether they meant to do or not.
http://vimeo.com/112867379 The NX1 is now in stock at B&H for the first time In my first shoot with the NX1 I only had the rather cheap and cheerful kit zoom on the camera. That doesn’t go any faster than F3.5. I’ve since been ordering in some Canon / Nikon adapters and have found the Sigma ART lenses to be a perfect match for the Samsung NX1 in 4K. The video footage above…
Here’s a short behind the scenes video: https://vimeo.com/111783226 As part of a new Photography section of EOSHD I’m going to be taking a closer look at some of the best cameras and lenses for stills. The Sony A7S makes new creative possibilities a reality with its incredible sensitivity to light. Shooting a personal project with my sister Zara Reid to showcase her floristry work, the boat was dressed and floated on the…
[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/112412323[/vimeo] Thanks to Norbert Bielan in New York for this test footage. You can read his thoughts on shooting with the URSA below. Blackmagic’s latest unified firmware release is mainly about the URSA and what an update it is. The new firmware bumps the maximum frame rate up to 80fps in 4K and adds a new 3:1 compression setting for raw recording, fitting more material onto CFast cards. The URSA also…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eikcKu89fDs Long ago there were rumours Sony had licensed 5 axis IBIS from Olympus. Either way they now have the technology and the Sony A7 II is the first to get it. If Sony can put an internal 4K codec and 5 axis stabilisation on the A7 S II then they will keep me as a customer for a VERY long time. How can anyone else really have an answer to that? So…
