  1. Past hour
  2. The front mount looks thicker…or it could just be a PL mount.
  3. I'm not sure where you get that from that image. What I get is that there's a thing called a "Pyxis Pro Handle" and that the camera will be usable by some guy with a single very strong arm and an abnormally wide left half of his body.
  4. Half of 6K is 4K. Each dimension is 1.5x bigger. But your point is still right, I think. If line skipping skips every other row and every other column to form the image, the result would be 1/4 the resolution of the full sensor - in that case, 2.5k.
  5. Yeah, I picked that example as something that I think can genuinely be debated, as opposed to fossil fuels and climate change. I'm very liberal, but its clear that simply forgiving loans has led to higher administrative costs in our education system--if we want to make it easier for students, forgiving loans with no other system changes is bad long term. And we can obviously find different potential solutions that allow people to get education that they want or need, without adding extra administrative costs to taxpayers. So yes, I agree with everything you said, but I do think that there is a basic level of understanding the world that is willfully lacking among many on the right, with the willful part being key. There's a rebellion against rationality, logic, and understanding among my friends and family on the right, of which I have many. The very idea of gathering facts and using them to make an informed decision is a symptom of the Liberal Elites, and any attempt to do so is talking down. So I agree with everything you say, but my thesis is that many of those people who are looking for a life jacket believe that the process of sitting down and figuring out how to get a life jacket, is wrong. The one positive thing I will say about tariffs, is that if higher prices lead to less consumption of useless goods, I'm all for it. Hopefully food and basic necessities can be left out of price hikes. Ideally we could find a way to keep people's first car nice and cheap. But if fewer people buy 2nd and 3rd cars, and we spend less energy building and throwing out shit we don't need, that is a good thing. Just wish there was more of a thoughtful plan.
  6. Today
  7. Looks like there is some internal nd there.
  8. There is absolutely truth to that, but I also include those people in with the cultists. They have their "truths" that will remain true regardless of the facts that stand before them. To be clear, I'm a Democratic Socialist, so I am to the left of most Democrats. I'd say I am even to the left of AOC and Bernie. So issues like student debt forgiveness, LGBTQ+ rights, Global warming, and all of these other causes are things I believe in dearly. But if you're a working class person that never went to college and are struggling to make ends meet, you know what you're probably not concerned too much about? Student loan forgiveness. Repeat that with almost all of the major things Democrats ran on in 2024 and you'll see a platform that is irrelevant to a lot of the working class. Folks are struggling and are looking for a life jacket for the issues impacting them directly. Right or wrong, all these other issues are abstract at best to them. Jack, who works at the Ford factory helping to assemble cars he'll never be able to afford, doesn't give a fuck that my best friend Tom is drowning in student loan debt for a liberal arts degree he's not even using. You know what I mean? Democrats need to reach out to the working class and win them back. You can't win elections without them, especially in the South and South West.

  10. At least when all those cameras were lost we knew why and how it happened. Whereas in this case it remains a complete mystery. Was it the Russians? Did DHL fancy a Leica Q? Did MPB put the wrong label on it and now it's in Poland? Did the French have any involvement in the early stages? We'll never be any the wiser. I sense a cover up over the a7s III as well. They are saying that there's no audit trail, no reason why it happened, no indication of when, and no staff name attached to anything. My theory is that somebody tested a customer return who complained about the bluetooth, and also couldn't get it working and listed it as spares & repairs. Then a manager came along and said you fucking idiot, that's how bluetooth is supposed to not work. There's nowt wrong with it, back onto the website it goes. And here's muggins thinking he has a bargain... OK fair enough but be honest about what happened, don't do the cover up which rubs insult into injury. I also think that 3 major fuck-ups in as many months is too much. I have lost completely the high trust I used to have in them. If you can't be sure whether a sales contract will be kept to or not, or whether a delivery will arrive, or whether I'll have to wait 2 months for a refund, it does make me think twice about spending another 10 grand with them.
  11. Its old school Japanese parentalism. But I think his assumption of line skipping and then NR is not accurate. Some kind of pixel binning is happening. Its not easy to downscaling 6k to 4k as half of 6k is only 3k، so conventional line skipping doesn't work in this case.
  12. That 12K is glorious. If this new Pyxis is the right price, it will sell like CRAZY
  13. Was excited to hear about the internal raw recording in the Z5ii and then a little less excited when I watched the Gerald Undone video... and then when he started showing real world footage, he was literally wearing a Sony Alpha jacket while recording a Nikon review... why are these competing companies sending him these cameras? That said, the review was fine, raw implementation in an IBIS body, with decent AF, at this price has been a dream of mine, but it seems like there are so many gotchas that I am left bewildered why these companies even use raw? If your'e going to add NR, then what's the point of a smoothed over raw file? I shoot raw because I prefer the gritty textures that feel like you could reach into the frame and touch it. I said in the Komodo price drop thread that I wouldn't be a customer, but at the current price, maybe I'd be better off saving up for a Komodo. Theoretically, that camera could provide a viable image for the next 5-10 years for me. And with all that said, it is still exciting to see raw video to an internal SD, with these features, at this price point. When I read this post, I had already thought about posting my FP up for sale and preorder the Nikon, now I'll wait to see how it does with more serious shooters in the coming weeks/months. The FP lives to see another day.
  14. Oh, cool! I'm super excited! One of my primary hesitations about the Pyxis was rolling shutter, but CineD tested the 12k sensor at just 5.5ms in 8k and 4k, more than fast enough. My writing partner and I are considering the UC 12k for our next project, but frankly, a Pyxis body fits a small crew better. If it's identical to the Pyxis with that sensor for $5k or less, it may be a winner for us! (Our other ideas at the moment are: used Red Komodo for ~$2.8k, or C500 Mk II for ~$5.2k, with the obvious benefit of the C500 being NDs + included EVF)
  15. I don't think this will affect me so much, gear wise. Might be a good way to avoid GAS. Not sure in what parts of my life this will hit though.
  16. Agreed, but a large part of the reason people feel that they are being talked down to is because they are wrong about facts, and then any attempt to explain those facts is perceived as being talked down to. There is a large range to how much "opinion" is in a given "fact". So I'm not talking about, "forgiving student debt will lead to a better economy," as that is not as clear a fact. But it is difficult to discuss whether burning fossil fuels contribute to climate change, or whether reducing the size of the IRS will lead to fewer taxes being collected--all without hurting the feelings of someone who is dead set on being factually wrong.
  17. IMX410 strikes again!
  18. Probably because it’s a more ‘entry level’ camera and ‘lower’ priced than the recent Lumix cameras?
  19. My experience has been that there are a lot of dumb people (I'd describe them as being in a cult, to be honest) but the biggest issue is that most folks that voted for him feel like Democrats talk down to them instead of talking to them, that they abandoned them. They're not totally wrong. At the end of the day they just want to be able to afford to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Democrats really didn't address that, while Trump (sort of, in his dumb way) did. Now, me personally, I don't understand how you can overlook the racism, the fascism, the misogyny, transphobia, his multitude of business failures, his felony convictions, January 6, etc. but again, if the Democrats couldn't convince people that the billionaire scumbag who shits on gold toilets doesn't have their best interests at heart then that's a huge problem. Normally I'd say we're getting what we deserve, but the damage being done will last generations. My nieces and nephews will be feeling the effects of our failures long after I'm dead and gone, and that's a tragedy.
  20. It's an aggressive entry level camera with strong video specs, I love that Nikon is coming out guns blazing! Weird though that they aren't getting a lot of the same guff Panasonic gets for using "old" sensors and for "terrible" rolling shutter. 🤔
  21. That's the play. The rich can't get richer if they don't have the resources. Hello Dark Enlightenment!
  22. Ok in what must be in world record time. Both the card reader and the memory card arrived today. Honestly wasn't expecting them for another week or so. You know its almost impossible to extricate items from their plastic package without totally destroying that packaging... Lord i hope i don't need to send it back... Not used Kingston before, but from years ago i knew they made ram chips, thought i'd take a chance. I have used Ugreen before and had no issues with their products and it was the cheapest uh2 reader. I should probably download some kind of speed test program to see if i got my moneys worth. The sirui has been living on the e-m1 at the moment. I take both with me when i go out in the car, it sits on the front seat with a towel thrown over it. Hopefully no one works out there's $2000 worth of camera and lens just sitting there. I must be some kind of optimist as the amount of moisture that keeps falling from the sky is impressive. Theres a busker that sits out the front of the local supermarket some days. I'm guessing he has done some living as i think he'd make a suitable candidate for some black and white photography. He has a dog as well and i reckon i can squeeze everything into a photo with 24mm sirui. I then plan to steal, adopt, modify some ideas Mercer mentioned in the lens thread and see where that leads. Turns out i have crystal disk mark on the comp already. Formatted the card and a quick test gives me this. which is slightly better than advertised on the packaging. Thats with the ugreen card reader into a c port on the top of the computer. Its turning into a bit of a blog isnt it ? Next challenge is to shoot some video.
  23. Oh! Sure enough, lookings like it's using the UC 12K sensor. UC 12K body is $7k, current Pyxis is $3k so... probably somewhere between those numbers. Lack of internal ND is a bummer, but I'm guessing that means it'll have a mirrorless mount available. If the weight is closer to existing Pyxis (1.5kg) vs UC 12K (4kg), it could be a real winner - especially if it's closer to $4k than to $5k.
  24. Great value in every country in the world except the US where it will cost 17,000 US dollars.
  25. Nikon would doubtless say you should buy one of our more expensive cameras with a CF Express Type B card slot... This is a low-cost camera (in today's full-frame market), so I'm not surprised it's limited to UHS-II SD cards.
  26. I think their "plan" for it is "MaKE iT hERE" Oh, that doesn't make sense for 50-year old camera lenses? "tOO BaD wErE MaKInG MuRCa GrEaT" I don't care much about an import tax on diamonds, if that's the example that we're using. I'm much more concerned with the impacts of things like the aforementioned 10% tax on Australian beef - though Australian beef is only around 12% of imports. But it's on Canadian, Mexican, and Brazilian beef (our three biggest import partners for it) as well... Tariffs on luxury goods like diamonds (and cameras) is... a little whatever, it's irritating. Putting them on basic goods that people need to live, on the other hand... that's just cruel. And in the case of stuff like beef, our domestic beef production is already about as high as it's going to be. Welcome to the land of the not-so-free and the home of the absolutely unnecessary inflation.
  27. Seems to be the pyxis 12k. (Doesnt seem to have internal ND, and only braw. No prores) just saw the banner on the NAB windows.
