1.
Remember that, properly lit, one seldom had any banding issues with the GH2. The Bloom film was properly lit. After reading this (scroll down a bit), it seems this thing is not yet in the can with the ominous 'HDR'. Looks as if it is a feature for stills only, and the iPhone 4 has a similar function (it differs from HDR developing in Photoshop insofar as it may be also possible for moving objects or handheld camera, if not, if I have to use a tripod for landscapes or the like, I do much better with the GH2's auto bracket and seven 'consecutive' photos!). Also, the clip with the cat on the chair didn't look as if it had HDR, it looked definitely LDR. After all the minor and major disappointments, that we work hard to get used to, this would for me be the last straw. Still banding? OMG.
I think that HDR video is something that will be reserved for the high-end niche (i.e. RED One MX) at least for a while. But with moire and aliasing already back in a big way with the GH3, I agree, banding would kill this camera for me. I'm leaning more and more towards not getting a new camera this cycle. I have not been floored by anything I have seen, including the BMCC MFT.

  2. you got lucky with the iscorama the last 3 i got where all spares or repair quality. anyone that says the isco optic in good condition is overpriced should wait for the slr magic and see if it gets anywher near iscorama. just for focus ease alone it is a gem. it really is beyond lomo in resolution terms, not the look but resolving power. i believe to get better you have to spend over 20 thousand dollars.

  10. I'd gladly contribute this week end by pushing the footage in post from your raw files Andrew to see how they hold up. And then share the results here. Sadly I most likely won't have any time until Saturday. If you have the time to do a quick edit until then I'd gladly take a glance at something like this: I took some of my raw gh2 footage and simply recovered the shadows and highlights in AE. Would be nice to see the same before and after on the gh3 footage if you can. Using the new high dynamic mode of course :)

    The Panasonic GH3 is here
I did realise, after shooting a lot of videos, on my GH2, that the GH2 has insane FLAT picture profile, under certain ideal conditions. ONLY. These are: 1. Seriously Overcast Sky (though, not at very late, in the evening. Because, low light, ruins it). 2. Slightly Over-exposed (about 2 stops). I guess, I'll just hold on to the GH2, for now. It has served me well, and it does some phenomenal video. At a fraction of the cost of the Alexas, the REDs and the Canon C series. The BMCC is good, but, its like a series of never ending investments, starting with SSD Drives, new wider lense, and much higher capacity of editing set-up. The GH2, for now, does everything at a fraction of the cost, and headache.
This pretty much is exactly what I feel, I'll just wait until someone gets the message and delivers something thats good. I would be happy to part with $3,000 for decent DSLR video, but not the BMCC its far too Mac orientated, too much dependant on large (massive) storage, needs so much pimping up...the cost will add up etc.. The GH3 gets close to ticking the boxes, but definitely not enough over the GH2 (for me anyway) maybe when its released it may be better ...but right now...no.

This sounds like a monologue, but, I guess, every camera manufacturer is giving us shit cams, under 5k. The GH2 is a miracle compared to the others. The Nikon mirrorless series is a joke. Its worse than bad. Both Canons and Nikon have insane moire and aliasing issues, apart from the very little lines of resolution. their picture profile is nice, but, it feels like those early day Handycams. The Sony NEX 5N and 7, are nowhere close to the GH2, at video. So, we haven't really gotten very far, from the last Photokia. 14. Andrew any sign of the banding we all get on gh2 if you shoot the sky ? is the new sensor better for this issue? and will the focus assist work via hdmi if we use an external monitor? Rolling shutter ? how is this looking! any better than the GH2 thanks Andy

  15. I'm ditching my 60D by the end of the year. I got plenty of EF-S glass that will either be sold off or used depending which way I go. It's been an interesting and steep learning curve finding out I'm more into video than stills. If the quality is there with the GH3 and it flies off the shelves that will cause a 6D price drop. There's also the BMC & the VG900 they will be enticing to enthusiasts (like me) who want to stretch for better quality. Looking forward to more hands on reviews with the Panny. Stills are of lessor importance to me than video. I'd be much happier with a raw shootin pocket camera than dragging around a DSLR & lenses. Its a good move with the Wifi & GPS, 'Got to keep up with the jones's'. Often I'd be out with my 60D, take some shots and want to share them straight up. Ended up pulling out my iphone instead with instant sharing and GPS Tags... LOL Go home and forget about the shots on the DSLR. So a camera that shoots raw/jpg with Wifi & GPS is fine by me! Still prefer a pocket size for that though. But thats me I don't do this for a living, some of you guys/gals might. For me its to put some visuals to music that I write. Love this site Btw. So much to learn

  17. Canon confuses me. I love Cinestyle and the way canons see color.. (i know that's an oxymoron since cinestyle flattens out everything, but even grading it, i seem to get more aesthetically pleasing results) - But the GH cameras have cleaner images and more lens options. Then in order to have the shortcomings of the Canon's that the GH's automatically don't have, you need another $10,000. I guess I should just stfu about it & realize....in the end...... ........they truly were... Stills cameras. 😔
