  1. FilmMan

    Bought the Canon 1DC

I turned to the Dark Side.  Darth FilmMan.  I got stupid last week.  Let me rephrase that.  I got dumber than usual.  I was talking to a sales guy about the Canon 1DC.  I said, "sharpen your pencil, and give me a price that will make me buy."  I bought it -  I still paid too much.  Then I ordered Lexar 1000x cards and another battery from other places.  So I get the camera, cards and extra battery.   At first I was questioning my decision.  Then not questioning myself.  Anyway, I won't keep rambling.   I was putting up stuff on Vimeo but the compression for a non-plus member is not as good.  So I put some stuff on YouTube.  Here's a quick shot of my neighbor.  90 mm lens.  4K footage down sampled to 1080p.  Then uploaded to the Tuber. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lii3vOm3p7w

  2. TCs are optimised for light flow in the 1.4x direction. To make them work in the 0.7x direction it is more that the simplicity of reversing the unit (which is only relevant for proof of concept), because the lenses have to be optimised for minimum aberration in the 0.7x direction.    If you want to do private study in lens design an excellent book is 'An introduction to Lens Design with Practical Zemax Examples' by Joseph Geary.   Zemax is not cheap (about $10k), but sometimes you can pick up an older and legitimate version on places like ebay.

  5. since most users wont touch anything longer than 135mm it isnt a problem.  Serious photographers using 300mm+ to take wildlife and other long distance photos would be better off using the APS-c crop to their advantage alongside fast phase AF anyway.  Youcan't please everyone i guess.  always a busy body to throw a spanner in the works and over emphasize an issue.

  6. I was tempted to buy from Samy's but they do charge tax, around $116. I called B&H and they said a shipment is coming on January 20, so hopefully for us on back order this will finally be it.

Light Meter Use - a poll

Having a little hand held meter which you can use to check every element in frame while the camera is locked down I imagine would be really nice.  I don't own a light meter but am planning a purchase for use in a film I am writing.  when using a camera with limited dynamic range that needs scenes lit properly I think it will be an invaluable addition when lighting a scene.

Light Meter Use - a poll

I'm going to say most responses will be no because they're not professionals who need them.
