  1. It's becoming harder for full frame photographic cameras to compete with dedicated video cameras.   Once F0.95 on full frame was unique for video.   Now with the Metabones Speed Booster I am shooting with the FS100 at F1.0 on an almost full frame imaging circle.   I think Leica need to be careful - if the video quality is sub-par then it shouldn't be on the camera AT ALL. Don't just bolt it on because they can. Leica's whole business depends on delivering the best possible image.   Video is very hard to get right on such a heavily photographic orientated product. The sensor and image processor just don't seem optimised for both.

  2. Top Gear confirmed for best show.   Also funny to note, I did a search for Top Gear before making this thread and found Wondo's post from October last year claiming he sold 2 cages to them.

  3. Downloading the "original" from Vimeo, it's so heavily banded and compressed it looks like a GIF, so I think it's been exported from the NLE at very low quality.   Will need some files out of the camera to pass final judgement i reckon...

  4. "Gladiator" look is a reference to the Ridley Scott film Gladiator. The actions scenes have a staccato movement associated with really high shutter speeds over 1/1000 sec. Since most films are shot 24P at 1/50 sec, you get a more pleasing motion blur. But if you want to do slow motion, then you need to shoot at 1/100 or faster shutter speed. It's all in the look that you want to achieve. Slower shutter speed means more motion blur, faster shutter speed means less blur and more stuttering movement. Again play around with different settings to get the look you want. As for the A function, well it really is a stills camera first. So the legacy functions of A, S, M, and P are all there. You can also change the movie mode to shoot in S function. Go to movie mode on the dial, enter the menus, go to the camcorder icon menu, exposure mode and set to S. Now all you see is the shutter speed, the aperture value is gone. If you have ISO and WB both on Auto, then those icons disappear as well. So now all you do is set your shutter speed and everything else is on auto. In dark scenes it will automatically go for the widest aperture, then set the ISO for you.

  5. Yeah, I'm waiting on a project to justify Element 3D.  Normally motion graphics are something I just play around with but I may be doing a lot more commercials that could benefit from using something like this.  Doing the same things in Houdini for a quick and dirty spot involves a lot more work that has nothing to do with pixels hitting the viewport so a more integrated solution within AE is awesome.     Here's the second spot in the series:   http://vimeo.com/61033585

@Zach: what film were you using?   i was going to mention this but i figured that it would be better to mention after your first roll,... not that i'm trying to 'teach' you or anything,... you might have really liked your first roll after all.   for c41, if its 400 speed film, tell the camera its 200, 100, 50 and so on,...    for e6 you want to under expose a bit so 100iso at 120, 400 at 500 ish, and so on.   that tends to bring out the colours a bit more.

  7. I was using my GH3 to record my mom watching TV and noticed some horizontal stripes/bands on the monitor and resulting footage.  I am hoping this isn't a defect of the camera.  Is this normal of the light emanating from an LCD TV screen?  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Would love to get some reassurance that this is normal characteristic from TV light.   Here's link to my footage.  You'll see the issue more clearly on the right side of the image.   https://vimeo.com/61397939

  8. So, I did a lot of uploads for certain clips a while ago doing test shoots and they are on my side bar for where my clips are in FCP X. If I delete them from the side bin, are they (the file and space they take up) out of the FCP program for good? I ask because I want them to be. I'm not sure if they're saved and taking up space in some area where I cannot see that it's taking up space in...can anyone confirm this?

  9. What is the difference between these two ISCO lenses:   http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130846560003   and something like the ISCO lenses that Vid-Atlantic Sells:   http://vid-atlantic.com/lensshop.html   With such price variances... what is the difference between the two?
