  2. Had several questions about these lately, here's a more in depth breakdown: http://jeremyosbern.com/blog/2013/04/16/zeiss-ultrascope-anamorphic-lens/ I plan on shooting a project in Ultrascope later this year, using both RED and 35mm film, then comparing the two. I'll post it when it's done.

  3. Well said but as a filmmaker I also like people to say what could be better next to the good things - only then you can improve next time. It's called feedback  ;)

  4. IMHO the exact ratio of BMPCC to Full Frame is 2.88 Full Frame Active sensor area for full HD video is 36 x 20.25mm diagonal = sqr(36)+sqr(20.25)=sqrt(1706.0625) = 41.30 BMPCC active sensor area 12,48 x 7,02 mm diagonal = sqr(12.48) + sqr(7.02) = sqrt(205.0308) = 14.3189 41.30/14.3189 ~ 2.88 Which is the same if you simple divide the long sides - 36/12.48 ~ 2.88 Most C-Mount lenses cover 2/3'', 1/3'' and 1/2'' inch sensor sizes. Probably only 10 to 15% of all C Mount lenses cover the 1'' sensor size needed for BMPCC. So most will vignette heavily on BMPCC and among those which do cover correctly the 1'' sensor size there may be still problems. Like: 1. Will the lens work without modification on a C- Mount to m43 adapter. Some don't. Can't focus on infinity and need some rework. 2. Is the image quality good enough. Most of those are surveillance camera lenses not optimized for high quality photo/video/film work. From what I've seen image quality on GH2 (tele converter mode) doesn't look good. It doesn't make sense to buy BMPCC which is supposed to give great image quality and stick a poor soft lens in front of it. My hopes are in Metabone Speedbooster for m43.

  5. this is sweet tiny easy peezy anamorphic. 1962-64 vintage simple design less smearing than iscormorphot potential to be much sharper. like the baby hypergonar using it with a low power achromatic diopter will take this to another level.     http://www.ebay.com/itm/Izukar-scope-x1-5-ANAMORPHIC-LENS-/300891246344?

  8. http://youtu.be/nenH4wFkTL0   this is my entry for a competition at a local tv channel. the shigascope with a takumar taking lens on a Nikon V1.    my first complete bit of video since i started playing with video in september.   and i came in second  :D ! so it's now being aired once a week for the next year. ( i would have rathered the cash value as a prize but oh well)   a friend told me about the competition 2 weeks before the deadline, a bunch of us got together and shot it in an afternoon,... cut together without knowing what i was doing,.. still dont really know  :P   for those that dont speak japanese,... the competition is called Furusato which roughly translates to hometown and is intended for locals to promote their hometown.    since i'm not originally from here i decided to make it about the foreigners/non-locals who have chosen to make this city their home.   it got projected in a movie theatre for the awards ceremony,...   the brilliant thing is that everyone else shot regular aspect ratio stuff,... so their videos occupied the middle area of the screen,...    when mine came on,... it was like 'boom!' filing the screen, lighting up the room,.. was so cool.    actually no thats not the brilliant thing,.. the brilliant thing is that people thought i shot this on a massive camera. i bet they think i was being a dick and lieing to them when i said it was a nikon v1 :P   that is all for now  :)

  9. I'd agree with Tony and Bioskop inc on these.   If they went onto a more open market (say Reduser), they'd be going for $4-$6K each. Bad/old Lomos are going for that now... and these stand the chance of being a matched (or close matched) set (and should be better than Lomos you'll find now).   I'd say the set would easily reach $25K more likely $30K+.   Put in a low ball as Tony said - that'll start the ball rolling at least.

  10. https://vimeo.com/63892665   Things that stand out...   Compressed raw will likely come to the 2.5K camera, with firmware update Firmware on the Pocket Cinema Camera is identical to BMCC, only sensor part is different (debayering etc.) They hope to do a Quicktime wrapper for Cinema DNG making it easier to edit. Raw frames in Quicktime MOV!   All very positive stuff and I like how knowledgable and engineering lead their CEO is. Not a business strategist but a proper technical man with ideas.
