1. Download sample 2K DNG file and see the image quality for your own eyes! Recently Magic Lantern had the breakthrough discovery of beautiful pin sharp 2K sensor feed in raw format on the 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III. This completely turns our understanding of DSLR video image quality on its head. Canon claimed the 5D Mark II line skipped on the sensor to produce video. I don't understand how that can possibly be the case. 2. Just a test with one of my anamorphic lens (a beautiful Bolex Moller Anamorphot 16/32/1.5x). Andrew opened my mind reading his useful blog and shooter's guide, and now I love the anamorphics. I am learning, so I hope you understand my limitations in all the areas, included the video edition.   Shot on Canon 5D Mark II, the taken lens is a Zeiss C/Y 100mm Makro-Planar f2.8   http://vimeo.com/64893832

 4. The CF cards are certainly cheaper than spending $8k on a 4K recorder for the C500. Well, it's less than that now thanks to the Odyssey 7Q but you get the point.   However, the fact remains that the 1D C does its image a huge disservice by offering zero changes over the 1D X for double the price, other than the image itself. Zero. Nothing. Put that image in the C300's body Canon please. Next time they may get it right.   And whilst they're at it, please sort out the low end and DSLR video. It is a bloody mess. More video features are being reversed engineered out of the 5D Mark III than Canon's own engineers added in the 3 years between the 5D Mark II and 5D Mark III. They could have 2K raw video, maybe also 3.5K MJPEG 1:1 crop in that camera at the drop of a hat. I have no idea what the hell is stopping them.

 5. eBay fees are truly crazy. 10%! You are welcome to sell the GH3 here, good luck with the sale.

 6.   The Cinema EOS line would not suffer. Which pro with $$$$$ to spend needs a hack? They need reliability. They need ergonomics. They need standardisation. Image quality is important but only one factor. Canon are wrong if they think DSLR video will cannibalise their C300 and C500. Maybe the 1D C would suffer... But I can't see someone like Philip Bloom selling his C300 and going back to a DSLR + Magic Lantern just for image quality.   For the creative bandits like us who just want world beating image quality and are willing to be brave, the hack is perfect.

 7. Thanks, Julian. I think the anamorphic lens is not properly aligned and the left side tends to be more blurred. Perhaps is the way to attach it to the primary lens (this Zeiss is a macro, and the filter thread are very far from the front len of this prime, maybe is one reason of this misalignment). I attach it with two very thin step down: a 49-39 and another 52-49. I must use tape to fix the anamorphic to the rings. I would like to buy a Redstan clamp and cross fingers that there is no internal problem with my Bolex.

 8. I don't see how they can intervene other than encrypt firmware on new bodies leaving the factory and even then they shouldn't, because if this raw video hack takes off sales of 5Ds will go THROUGH THE ROOF.   Indeed what is the point of the 1D C I have asked myself that many times!!

 10. This is a must read, if you haven't already...   http://davidbordwell.net/books/poetics_10cinemascope.pdf   He talks in detail about the compositions favored by the format.

 11. If a 5d2 can do this, what could we get from a Panasonic GH3?     "The GH3 has a quad core CPU, outclassing even the dual core DIGIC5+ and assisting DIGIC 4 found in $6000 Canon 1D X." (From EOSHD : http://www.eoshd.com/content/9011/the-panasonic-gh3-is-here )

 13. I could do, it works just like the Nikon V1 burst mode.   Just need to transfer Magic Lantern to one of my faster 1000x cards as only getting 15 frames per burst on the 600x card.   The End Trigger mode is interesting - this appears to capture endlessly until you let go of the shutter release, then it writes the last few frames to the card.   BTW - with getting 3592 x 1320 raw burst with a certain combination of settings - is this documented normal behaviour?

 15. For me...shooting e.g. birds...then it looks very soft. Did not get it really as sharp as out of cam in FCP X...but will try different tool from Alex4D this evening. Any other ideas? @Andrew: What are your settings when mixing Gh3 and RX100? BTW thanks for all the great stuff on your site! Viele Grüße Michael

 16. rich and vibrant colours can be got by the colour profile you shoot on in the camera and by grading in post   Panasonic and olympus make m43 lenses to use without adapter but I would recomend you do use adapters and it will open up a whole world of great lenses you can use Canon FD lenses are superb on a GH2 and cheap Carl Zeiss are also superb and have great blacks and contrast   so have a look on ebay ....

 18. So I've had this lil' thing for a while, but didn't really use it yet. Decided to 'mount' it into a lenscap, that I put with a step up ring onto the new (smaller) Panasonic 14-42mm OIS lens (on the GH2). No vignetting from 35mm and upwards, but I was using it because of the OIS and autofocus, so I only have to guesstimate the distance on the anamorphic.   It was very windy and cold.. but this is definitely the 'fastest' way of getting an anamorphic shot with any of my lenses :)   http://vimeo.com/64987255

 19. Thought maybe it was my setup (Nanoflash) but your footage also shows a green => magenta shift from HDMI to H.264.

 20. To say no, it is not better, without at least a simple green screen test seems unfair. I can't see why people were expecting a drastic difference

 22. Some years ago, Philip Bloom opened my eyes to DSLR video. His work has helped pave the way for a lot of bigger and better projects for me. Most were lit. Some weren't. A successful image is a successful image. Back to the camera: Sebastian at Cinema5D posted that "full operability" for the MFT model will likely come at a later date via firmware update (probably after they iron out proprietary issues with Panasonic and Olympus; here is the link: http://***URL not allowed***/news/?p=12831 ). Put that together with projected firmware updates to allow file deletion-in camera and Ikan's cheap battery solution, and you're well on your way to a pretty shootable camera. Still a lot of variables, but there is hope.
