1. Yes, it has the screw but I still had to cut at the bottom - to release the rear optic from a glued in fitting - I did not want to force that free by hand, so I went medieval on it's ass. Can be rebuilt easily, but am finding it very practical to use in it's closer focus form.   @QuickHitRecord- sorry man, I did not mean to hijack your thread...it was your impressive footage that prompted me to dig out my iscomorphot and give it some use again...albeit with a 'chop shop' drink-inspired makeover :)   Ps- I picked mine up for £40 and the optics are not quite to the standard I would wish to sell on, as I think there are too many wiseguys selling overpriced and crusty damaged scopes as 'minty' on the bay already.

  2.   So tape the orange ring up with black tape then? I don't think it is an issue for stealth. Hand on the lens covers it anyway. I've never had a better non-reaction of people to this camera when pointing it in their general direction.   On the 1D C test shoot with Slashcam I was filming a blossom tree and a woman in Berlin who was standing on the pavement over the road actually stomped over to me and asked me if I was filming her. She harassed me down in a u-bahn station and went out of her way to do so. She even asked to see the shots. Some people have real hang ups about personal privacy and you need to be careful. Granted it happens VERY infrequently, but if Henri Cartier Bresson had to go round the street handing out release forms doubtless he'd have missed a few decisive moments :)   No VF? That's not correct. With the add-on it has one of the best EVFs around. I tried the Zeiss optical one too. Very nice for composition, very bright.

  4. Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes it is the same lens. It feels nice an solidly built. A handsome little little fellow dare I say. However I think that most C-Mount to NEX adapters can accept lens diameters up to 44mm. Some stepped C-Mount to MFT adapters can can except diameters that exceed 37mm but at that point the lens is held further away from the sensor and (in some lenses at least) the focus to infinity problem occurs. It's a shame because I was hoping that I could also use this lens with my V1 but that has a similar restriction due to to mount diameter. My initial thoughts are to fabricate a new back plate for the lens from an adapter plate. That would actually increase the available diameter as the support around the recess would then not be needed. All this is theory right now but I will keep you posted. It will be a while though as I'm very busy right now.

  5. That's very far from the current consensus.   1920x720 is under the date rate that a 1000x CF card can do, so should be possible. You can see my next blog post, there's a LOT of stuff in that. I won't reveal too much until that is online, but already the 1920x1285 14bit raw is very usable as a 30fps 1 second burst mode like the Nikon V1. Rendering my sample clips as we speak.   Bear in mind also that is still very early days with this. Lots of progress is in the pipeline just takes time.

  6. Magic Lantern is truly amazing.   With the GH2, Vitaliy did good work but it was only ever tinkering with existing settings and features.   With Magic Lantern they are running C code on the OS and it is like a computer. Astonishing achievement.

  7. I can't decide whether I love this lens or hate it. It is very easy to use with rack-focusing and no need for diopters (focuses as close as 1' or so) but there is often ghosting if I shoot faster than f/4 or sometimes f/5.6. But at those apertures, it acts like a shallow DOF amplifier. Still, I do lose the light. Here it is coupled with my Helios 44:

  8. Looking forward to seeing your shots, Gábor.    I've tried the Sun with my Helios 44. Images look pretty sharp to me when in focus. What do you think?   Here are some screenshots with the Helio 44M:

  9. Angenieux 10mm f/1.8 Retrofocus Julian already classified this as a Yes (with dark corners) and has a link to my image of it at f/1.8, but I would like to add a few words. You can find a lot of these lenses on eBay these days, starting around $200. Is it worth consideration at all? This is, as you know, a fixed focus lens which was a very popular lens for handheld camerawork on 8 and 16mm. You just set the aperture and ran with it. The downside: it only works when you have enough light. Although this is a very fast lens with f/1.8, wide open practically EVERYTHING is out of focus, infinity starts getting sharp around f/4, and the foreground around f/8. So here are some images at different apertures, just so that you get an idea what this lens is like: (There will be slight dark corners up to f/4, but as you probably won’t be using it until f/8, you shouldn’t have any problems.) f/1.8: Everything is out of focus. The plant in the front is about 1m (3 feet) from the camera. f/2.8 is pretty much the same. f/4: The background is reasonably sharp, but the foreground is still soft. f/8: Now, this starts to look usable! The foreground is reasonably sharp now. f/11: Not bad at all, please look at the full size image to form your own opinion. f/16 is pretty much the same as this. Is it sharp enough for you?

  10.   I already have BMPC on pre-order, but the hackability of 5D is probably the most fascinating case study of consumer self-empowerment I have ever witnessed, so I'm curious how far the tech can be pushed regardless.

  11. Reading up on all the Andromeda stuff and asking people on Twitter what they know.   Apparently RealStream were under NDA when they got bought out.   It seems whoever bought RealStream did not want to be outed.   "Why" - that is the million dollar question isn't it...   Seriously you wouldn't believe what kind of dodgy stuff goes on out there. I know people who have worked at the top of large companies. No matter what the reputation, there's a ton of dark stuff that goes on. I know it for a fact.

  12. Made a topic about this a while ago, there are more options: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/1360-anamorphic-monitors-for-your-computer/   I think right now all the monitors use the same panel. Actually I have access to the Philips screen at work :)   Gonna resize some of my anamorphic creations to 2560 pixels to watch them on it and I'll show some pictures. I love the concept!

  13. never seen one before.pretty rough shape.damp corrosion.   maybe mid late 70s probably made by a rental company with a nice sharp canon lens. maybe a custom anamorphic wide head by lomo. clunky focus plenty distortion plenty cash to sort out issues worth no more than 2000 dollars based on the renovation cost.   more distortion than in this clip. wide shots in this done with jdc 24mm proper rebuild very poor youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eAG8UiPgrw

  15.     Ha!...yes, I simply unscrewed the front element which was simple enough then I removed the rear optic with a trusty hacksaw. I carefully cut the rear of the barrel off, just before the glass insert - leaving the rear optic flush with the outer tube.   Then I had two optics to play with and mount at a shorter distance to allow closer focus. I was going into this knowing that infinity would be lost...I was just after the shallow look, but with a more controllable close focus.   Before I went all 'Dexter' I checked that I had some brass tube stock so I could rebuild in case it all went horribly wrong. I acquired this x2 a while back for dirt cheap, it is probably a 5/10 condition...not a sacred flawless example by any means.   I think that with a longer bodied rehousing there would be a way of covering 2 feet to infinity...but I'm definitely happy with having it as a portrait/detail only lens. I wanted something super portable that would intercut with my Lomo footage for closeups...it seems to have a very complimentary look. And it is awesome not having to mess around with diopters.

  16. I agree eBay is now heavily biased towards the buyer, some people I've dealt on eBay treat me like a shop, one day I will have to don a badge and uniform and deliver the camera in person with a cheesy smile. It isn't much fun working for eBay!

  17. Hi Tim. Thanks for the kind words. I am planning on doing some tutorials on compositing but now that you have requested this I will also run through some grading as well. It won't happen for a little while though, I'm currently on my way to Maui! But I will look into setting some stuff up on my site and link a tutorial here on Eoshd if I'm allowed to link it.

    SLR magic / CCTV lenses

The topic title is highly misleading.   SLR Magic's current lenses the 12mm F1.6, 25mm F0.95, 35mm T0.95 and 50mm T0.95 HyperPrime CINE are original optical designs.   I have edited the title.
