1.   Here's my research... Resolve is taking the reduced-resolution image metadata for the Magic Lantern DNGs.   Cinema DNG has different EXIF data to stills standard DNG. For a start no reduced res image EXIF.   Resolve seems only designed to read the Cinema DNG EXIF data.   Since DNG and Cinema DNG are practically the same format aside from metadata, if they make the metadata Cinema DNG standard in Raw2DNG I think that might fix the problem.

 2.   The problem is that Canon wants to make too much money.  The accountants and marketing people want to maximize profits by targeting the masses.  By doing this, you stiffle the creativity of the engineers.    One must wonder if the Canon engineers purposely left breadcrumbs in the firmware code in hopes of having the full fruits of their labor discovered.

 3.   I really wanted the Kineraw to succeed. But between BMPC and 5D3 they have rather little room to maneuver now, unless they can drop their price down to $2K.

 4. It's funny that we could have had raw video on DSLRs in 2008.   You have to wonder - do Canon want to make money or not!?

 5. There is one advantage of the 5d3 over Blackmagic, and that is that you can buy the canon off the shelf. I am sure I am not the only person to cancel a preorder due to magic lanterns recent work with raw.

 6. The look isn't applied when you convert from raw to DNG, it is applied in your grading workflow, be it with Adobe Camera Raw controls (After Effects) or in Resolve.   The new Windows app looks good. A LOT of development to come on the workflow front.   Today Andrew Wonder's team and myself included are trying to get Resolve to eat the DNG files. Same issue right now as the Nikon 1 NEF burst mode stills converted to DNG. They don't work. Metadata isn't right and they're not Cinema DNG files.

 7. That's because you are shooting in a flat mode, you have to expert the raw 'flat' as well. You are not going to get the same image you get on your screen, you get a raw file, the 'look' is applied when you convert the dng's. Use the histogram to expose your shots correctly.   On another note:   Someone wrote a cool windows app to generate quick proxies from the .raw files: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5557.0 It also unpacks all your raw files into different folders.

 8.   A lot of bullshit spoken about Blackmagic there. Internal battery was an extra feature. It works as a UPS / backup power. BMCC uses an external battery as the main power source, like the Epic. Nobody complains the Epic has no internal battery like an iPhone. This is a consumer mindset. Try a filmmaking one.   If you think the dynamic range is 'disappointing in practice' on the BMCC, I can only assume you've never used one, and have picked up some quote from somewhere about usable DR being less than 13 stops. The BMCC excels at dynamic range. Vincent Laforet compared it to a 1D X raw still.   So their earlier attempts were crude? Dropped frames and moire all they had to offer? Really?   You are annoying.

 9. 2x anamorphic trees 'n shit on the 5D Mark II at 1280x1080 - stretched to 2560x1080p. Details on vimeo.   https://vimeo.com/66855971

 10. Although I have general antipathy toward Blackmagic because of the way they overhyped and underdelivered the original BMCC, I have to admit their new 4K camera does look somewhat promising. The pocket camera and the small sensor originals are worthless doorstops. I would rather have even the hacked GH2 and much rather have the hacked 5D3.   The main problems with the 4K offering are the ergonomics still are ridiculous (how many cameras other than the iPhone don't have replaceable batteries ffs?) and I understand the dynamic range of that sensor is disappointing in practice. 12 stops may be a stretch to claim (we need independent tests). But the resolution should be good (if not true 4K...it should have more distinguishable pixels than 1080p at least...again we need tests) and it's better to be able to record ProRes onto commodity SSD than RAW onto CF. And maybe they will finally have more EF lenses working properly and firmware that lets you do absolute basics like review and erase and reformat the drives. And not suffer dropped frames, moire, etc. etc. that their earlier crude attempts at making a camera suffered from.   But Super35 global shutter 4K direct to ProRes on commodity media is a nice set of checkmarks for $4000, with a full version of Resolve in the tin. It's a competitor to the 5D3 RAW if it works well in practice and actually ships in quantity sometime this decade. The lack of jello and onboard ProRes makes it a worthy competitor to the KineRAW for those on the bleeding edge. But for those who can only afford one body the hacked 5D3 offers terrific stills, timelapse, SLR ergonomics, Canon professional build and service, mature ecosystem, etc. And it's here now.

 11.   That's the thing, though... it's NOT free. Not everyone owns the 5D. Most I would say actually don't. And if it's a choice between buying a $3,000 camera that shoots a few seconds of unstable raw and buying a $2,995 or $3,995 camera that shoots stable raw at a higher resolution, I'd say that Blackmagic still wins when presented to undecided customers.   If anything, I'm still tempted to buy the Blackmagic Pocket over this. 1080p raw for $999. Take the two grand you've saved over the 5D and go out and buy some nice m43 glass to go with it.   I agree this is a nice treat for folks who already have a 5D, but I still don't believe the raw abilities of this camera as it currently stands warrants a $3,000 purchase.   But again, if Magic Lantern can actually make this stable and eliminate those image-tearing motion and vertical line issues (that I notice Andrew keeps conveniently ignoring) AND gives us TRUE continuous recording that last for several minutes before dropping frames (which by the way should absolutely make it a total dealbreaker) then I'd be happy to drop the money and buy it.      It's getting there, but it's not quite revolutionary yet.

 12. Mmmmm......Appears that the delay is just of your common or garden "it doesn't quite work properly" variety. Oh well at least I was right about it not being an issue with a licensing fee ! ---- Blackmagic reassures customers over camera delay 15 August, 2012 [background=transparent]Shipments of Blackmagic Design’s eagerly anticipated Cinema Camera have been delayed. The 2.5K device, which was unveiled at NAB earlier this year, was meant to ship in July. Blackmagic EMEA senior PR manager Patrick Hussey said the camera would be delivered to customers by the end of the month. “We are making a few tweaks because we want to make sure we release a quality product, not substandard kit,” he said. “The reality of the situation is that a four-week delay is not an awful lot, particularly when you consider that delays to products from other manufacturers can be much more substantial.” Hussey declined to provide more information about the “final round of tweaks”, but he said suggestions from some resellers that the delay related to third party licencing issues were incorrect. “There are no problems there and Thunderbolt approvals have been granted. “All products go through a quality assurance process and we’re just making sure everything is nailed down.” ------ Source http://www.broadcast...&contentID=1151[/background]
