  1. Perhaps delete this thread & we start again to make it a place for recommendations, tried & tested, the weird, & it could also be a place for people to ask questions about anamorphics they've come across (is this separation or how bad is the separation on this lens) or prices (eg. Q. Is £4k a reasonable price for an Iscorama? A. No! )    But don't allow, "i'm selling my anamorphic on ebay" type stuff - we all know ebay & can do our own searches etc...

  2. OK thanks everyone. Pocket Cinema Camera held onto.   I've cancelled my orders for the 2.5K Micro Four Thirds and 4K cameras with CVP and had my deposits refunded. Was in first 5 for the MFT camera and within first 30 for the 4K model but I've waited 6 months for the MFT version and still no sign of it. Enough is enough.     I would like to review the 4K camera but Blackmagic will have to make a move and support my coverage, as I'm no longer prepared to wait in an endless queue for one.

  3. I actually think this thread has its uses.   For those looking for advice on the suitability of the lenses they find on eBay, I encourage people to post pictures, model name and descriptions but not links to the eBay page.   - Discuss the lenses you find if they are unusual. That knowledge is important.   - Try not to post auctions links because it happens to be an anamorphic lens. Must be discussion worthy.   - Post a link if you have questions about the suitability of the lens for filmmaking   Let's try that and if the concerns about inflated auction prices still remain I will close it.   And please no advertising.

  4. PROVE THEY HAVE THE GOODS   - Request to see photos of the item being sold with their EOSHD username displayed alongside it, preferably in handwriting on piece of paper so it cannot be faked.   COMMUNICATE   - Check their forum posting history, see if they are new. If they have a genuine history of posts and contributions to the forum, the seller is more likely to be genuine. - If possible speak with the seller by telephone - Until a deal has been closed, converse with the seller openly on the forum   ASK FOR ID   - Get a real name, address and ID - If they refuse full details on privacy grounds, ask to continue the deal and all private comms via eBay instead of the forum   USE SAFE PAYMENT METHOD   - DO NOT use Western Union or wire transfers - PayPal is preferable over bank transfers - Ask if they accept cash on collection   SELLERS   - Sellers should provide a price in the main topic - Sellers should provide a link to their feedback on eBay and be contactable via their eBay account - Topics that don't meet these rules may be at risk of being deleted   DISCLAIMER   EOSHD is not responsible for buying and selling on the forums, deal at your own risk and buyer beware

  5. I'm definitely still interested in reading about BlackMagic. But I did loose interest in buying one myself. Cancelled my pre-order on the Pocket. Still, I read a lot about things that I will never buy, it's just something I'm really interested in. Probably most interested in the 4K model, not because of I will ever use it, but because it is the camera that is the most unknown to date and I'm curious what it has to offer to the world of video. Anyway, that deifnately shouldn't be a reason for you to buy one Andrew :)   Funny thing: when I joined EOSHD about a year ago, I thought it was funny that the name was EOSHD, while this really was (is) the place to go to for GH2 shooters - one of the reasons I joined here as well (and anamorphic shooting). After all, the name has made a come back it seems ;)   Sure don't hope it turns into a Canon only thing. The power of the blog is that you write about almost everything that _could_  be interesting to filmmakers. Whatever the brand or the price. That's what I like.

  6. We already know the quality of the Pocket Cam's sensor...it's a moire-ridden, lower-res 1:1 crop of the original cam's sensor. What we don't know about the pocket cam is how many bugs will be in the first implementation of BMD's MFT support...so one thing you might do is visit a shop/rental house with your pocket cam and try each MFT lens and see and list which won't focus/iris/is properly. I'm confident once all is said and done the BMD pocket will offer better color and DR than the GH2/GH3 but far worse ergonomics, lens support, moire, stills, real (as opposed to simulated via aliasing) sharpness/resolution, and total cost of ownership. Anyway they're just starting out making cameras.    The 4K cam is what's interesting from them...S35, 4K ProRes, EF glass...we already know the ergonomics will be terrible and lens support still iffy but just how awful is that sensor to get it this cheap? The only competitors to it for that res under $25K TCO are 1DC and Scarlet, the former a bit of a kludge and the latter quite long in the tooth at this point.   Regardless Andrew, I hope BMD doesn't "help you with their coverage" as I think you're one of the only bloggers willing to straight up criticize a mfr and their products, and that's invaluable. Even if you aren't perfectly fair and even in your critiques I think online camera reviewing would lose a lot if you got corrupted into "being a team player."

  7. If this tool can create a prores version at the same time that would be awesome!    Work with the prores and connect to the dng for grading.

  8. Here is a demo showing how the pre-release ML firmware crop mode can increase the focal range of any lens without any loss in resolution or light when shooting full 1080 raw. I am still in shock.   http://youtu.be/dQ51rE_ZUgo

  10. People are already shooting commercial gigs with 5D RAW. If you're too scared to take the plunge with the rest of the gang, at least don't sit there trying to convince yourself everyone else is miserable when you're the one sitting on that lonely plank.   I haven't had so much fun with my 5D since the Manual Firmware was released. 14-bit color. For free. Unreal.

    BMPCC Preorder

Having just discovered the awesome ETTR on ML & how to use it to successfully reduce the sensor noise at small reliable crop factors, i'm beginning to really like the idea of the Pocket being delayed! A month, two or three would be lovely...

  12.   It's two people in one account, him and his wife. I remember he mentioned one of them made the more technical posts and the other one was more on the creative side of things, but I don't know which was which and I'm probably messing both of their tendencies up. :P

    For sale: Iscorama 54

lesson learned....     not one person dealing with this issue seems to have contributed positively at all to this forum.  Just come here to take take take.  either selling or buying, they bring NOTHING to the forum.  Personally I think there should be a stop to all this posting of ebay listings, personal sales, etc.  at least topics of this nature should be only postable and visible by regulars.     Also, someone please close the ebay listings topic.  this has to be the most ridiculous idea ever.  Share your findings with the world, kill any chance of you or anyone else savvy to anamorphics getting a bargain because everyone and their grandma can come in and see a run down of anamorphics worth bidding on.  If it were a secret topic to regulars I'd understand, but literally, I'd say that topic alone is contributing 50% towards the current silly inflation of anything with a squeeze ratio!
