Ratguity reacted to janosch simon for a topic
Hey guys :-) as i love RAW and LOVE highspeed i thought perhaps its possible to build my own raw dng camera :-) i foundthis thread over at bmcuser http://bmcuser.com/showthread.php?2043-Little-raw-cam-side-project and its roughly based on that idea :-) but i went with an other camera from PointGrey its an USB 3 Flea 3 cam that can shoot up to 720p120fps. and build a mini itx board with an intel core i3 3225 :-) still lots of work to be done but at the moment i can write on an ssd 720p120fps at 8bit and 720p96fps at 12 bit. but i have a problem with my .raw to .dng conversion: on the BMCC raw files there is a tag: DefaultCropSize and DefaultCropOrigin and i cant get it to work properly with my DNG converter when i run dng_validate on an converted DNG i get always: *** Error: Invalid DefaultCropSize *** does anybody has a sample code or another idea? to the some picutres of the MiniRaw1 just serach on twitter and instagram for #MiniRAW1 :-) only pictures at the moment no footage yet :-) cheers and thx Janosch1 point -

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, this being a filmmaking forum and not strictly a photography forum, but i thought that some of you might be interested. A few weeks ago a new Cinematic Photography group was started on facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/cinematicphotography/ 99% spherical shooters so far,... they tweak their work in post to look cinematic. some brilliant work, but us anamorphs are horribly under represented,... :( come and show these sphericals the meaning of true anamorphic movie magiks :P cheers, Shuji.1 point

The Diopter Thread.
Tito Ferradans reacted to Julian for a topic
I bought the Minolta Close-UP lens for 100-500mm... $120 incl. shipping. http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330935579377 Might sound cheap for an achromatic 72mm 0.43 diopter (that's what it is, right? I hope that really is the truth :P) but I feel dumb because the same seller put exactly this diopter up a week ago, bidding from 0.99 and there were no bids.. I followed it, but forgot it in the end and it went unsold.. damn, that would have been a steal! Anyway, if this really is the 72mm 0.43 achromat, then it's probably the cheapest one to get anyway.. I'm not paying $300 for a filter...1 point -
Indeed, it's really "horses for courses". If you want wide, sharp slow motion with deep depth of field, the RX100 is the best for budget. If you want cinematic portraits for narrative film-making with shallow depth-of field, then the 600D can nail it.1 point

You can knock a lot of junk out of the image by getting closer to your subject and using a wider aperture so that less in focus. At that distance at 5.6 everything is going to be in focus, which the 600d doesn't do well. I think better composition is a huge part of what you're missing. You only posted 2 very short clips so its hard to judge by that, but thats really what comes to mind when watching them.1 point

Just change the size at the raw video options? If you don't have experience with ML just read the manual for Unified 2.3, at least you'll understand how to access extra menu's and stuff - it's a piece of cake. The whole manual is even inside of the camera if you download ML 2.3. Hints: press 'func', the set button and use the scroll wheel...1 point

The pocket and 4K are the most unique so they get my vote. The other two are a bit "meh" now. TBH I'm considering cancelling too, I'm pretty high up the 4K queue, but there's no sample imagery, almost no-one who actually ordered even the first camera has it I'm also not convinced I need that much future proofing. After recently handling Epic footage 4K, the resolution was a headache. The raw was lovely, but the huge resolution makes everything sluggish. That makes the 5D a better option, oddly enough. Plus I love stills.1 point

Yes. I don't remember how this is done in Dexter, but generally you assume that thinking is a voice out of nowhere, it doesn't reach out, reflect or resonate. It's mono always, captured in a silent room (no dictionary at hand, but since you know german, "schalltoter Raum"). You cut out breaths (unless they are inward sighs) and in the mix you contrast it to a stereophonic panorama or make it the only event in the center channel. The more primitive way to make clear that a voice is supposed to be a thought is, er, "Hall". It implies that the voice comes from far away (in time) or that the skull is hollow. Today only used in parodies ('Scary Movie').1 point

I'm definitely still interested in reading about BlackMagic. But I did loose interest in buying one myself. Cancelled my pre-order on the Pocket. Still, I read a lot about things that I will never buy, it's just something I'm really interested in. Probably most interested in the 4K model, not because of I will ever use it, but because it is the camera that is the most unknown to date and I'm curious what it has to offer to the world of video. Anyway, that deifnately shouldn't be a reason for you to buy one Andrew :) Funny thing: when I joined EOSHD about a year ago, I thought it was funny that the name was EOSHD, while this really was (is) the place to go to for GH2 shooters - one of the reasons I joined here as well (and anamorphic shooting). After all, the name has made a come back it seems ;) Sure don't hope it turns into a Canon only thing. The power of the blog is that you write about almost everything that _could_ be interesting to filmmakers. Whatever the brand or the price. That's what I like.1 point

lesson learned.... not one person dealing with this issue seems to have contributed positively at all to this forum. Just come here to take take take. either selling or buying, they bring NOTHING to the forum. Personally I think there should be a stop to all this posting of ebay listings, personal sales, etc. at least topics of this nature should be only postable and visible by regulars. Also, someone please close the ebay listings topic. this has to be the most ridiculous idea ever. Share your findings with the world, kill any chance of you or anyone else savvy to anamorphics getting a bargain because everyone and their grandma can come in and see a run down of anamorphics worth bidding on. If it were a secret topic to regulars I'd understand, but literally, I'd say that topic alone is contributing 50% towards the current silly inflation of anything with a squeeze ratio!1 point
