  1. Well, certainly I cannot say I like. The heat go up in your desktop at 10" i don't know. I'm a long time Mac Pro user but for me this is a Mac Mini Pro, but certainly i prefer this to a Imac.   My two cents   Pd: this afternoon i see a video at Engadget where some dude is showing the Mac Pro in a crystal cylinder, and some employed cross behind with two big chrome ashtrays and look keep looking the Endgadget guy, very ironic moment.

  2. It's uncompressed 4-2-2 guys.   I'm finally getting it to work with the Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttle and it grades amazingly. Noise grain is finer, there's obviously far less compression going on via HDMI. There's also about a stop more dynamic range and a more gentle roll off to the highlights. Amazing stuff.   If you get this camera, I recommend you shoot via an external recorder.   Now here's the proof... (blown up 200% in PS)...   http://www.eoshd.com/uploads/nikon-d5200-prores-vs-h264.png   More detail too - look at the thread on the outer ring of the Iscorama... Thread lines visible in the ProRes and smudged in the H.264 internal recording at 24Mbit.

  3. Today I had an extensive testing of the Sennheiser MKE400 microphone with my Panasonic GH3. I tried it in different settings (Highering and lowering the audio gain in and outside the camera) but it came with a disappointing sssss noise. When I used the mic with my Zoom H1 it was still there but lesser. Anybody knows what's causing this and got a solution? Thanx!

  4. The new Mac Pro is the height of a bottle of wine, with the diameter of a small cookie jar. Cutting edge in terms of technology it's also a radical departure from the old models in terms of design and in my view it is going to be a huge success though I'm expecting a huge price tag. 6. Small and modular in design and featuring a global shutter, this raw digital cinema camera isn't built by a camera company, or even a small team. Created over the last 6 months in Flensburg in Northern Germany single-handedly by Roald Christessen, the camera features a global shutter and raw output. Here's an exclusive Q&A with Roald and more about the camera technology... 7. Has anyone figured out a good way to remove video noise? I am not talking the removing grain, I mean the repetitive noise for example that the RX100 displays when shot at high ISO. In this case it comes out as blue splotches... I have tried neat video, but I can't seem to find good settings.   Any help would be appreciated...

  8. It's hip to hate #1, whoever they are. So we hate Canon, and Apple, and Philip Bloom. But usually they got to #1 on at least some merit. Merit we can often learn from. And economies of scale provide them profound advantages over the other contestants. Advantages to us that can more than make up for any peccadilloes that we might be persnickety about.   Go ahead and hate #1. You will be my enduring Internet hero.

  9. I think it's really a great effort and an incredible result, althought I don't see a commercial future for it.   For half the price BM gives 4k with DaVinci Resolve 10.. who would risk paying double for a one man product?   Respect for the project, even if I wouldn't buy it.

  10. I did a quick test earlier with Gregory's latest build, and I got an average of 69MB/s. One star continuous after initial recording, no dropped frames. Using Komputerbay 64GB 1000X card

  11. Apple isn't for everyone, but if you don't want to fuss around with things and just want something that works... this will do the job.  Of course barring any issues that are unforeseen, but really Apple has been extremely successful with their products, with only a few missteps along the way.  This system looks like a very serious turnkey solution for many users out there.  I've never understood the MacBashers out there myself, but that's their problem.  It took Apple some time to develop their new MacPro but it's as expected a serious product with a ton of thought put into it.    People complain about Apple, but they don't respect what Apple has done from it's beginning to push personal computing over the years.  It seems like too many younger tech users don't know the history and so can't appreciate Apple for being the driving force for all the Desktop Publishing, Audio and Video editing we do today.   In fact a lot of the things we take for granted now in terms of use and design comes from Apple crafting better ideas and PROVING to the marketplace the validity of their philosophy.  This new MacPro is just another part of that process.  In time it will become clear that Apple was right with regard to OpenCL and the general direction they've set for how we handle media etc.     This is a more modular approach and it makes sense for how most people tend to use their computer.  No need for the Bulk of the case if most people just connect peripherals rather than cram stuff inside anymore anyway.   Just a tuned up box of CPU/GPU processing and fast Ram and Storage.  Crazy thing is that it's darned near portable.  It's so small that there's no way I won't take this thing with me if the location makes sense.  It used to be just too much to drag my desktop around, but this thing... :D

  12. Are there any Magic Lantern mods for the Canon GH2? If so what all does it allow the camera to do and at what resolution? How is the GH2 with recording audio? I am looking fora good starting DSLR camera for shooting short films and mabe some other projects. I keep hearing good things about how a hacked GH2 can compete with a 5D mark III and some say the GH2 even performs better with video? How true is this? Does the GH2 have a time limit on recordingvideo like the 5D mark II and III?   Thanks, Paul Kepner

  14.   Thanks and for the record I strongly agree. However runs their marketing program is completely out of touch. It is as if they went through Twitter looking at follower numbers and giving out cameras based on that.   None of whom have the MFT camera are actually MFT shooters! None of them use MFT cameras like the GH2 or AF100 for their filmmaking work.   Few of them are technical enough to give good beta test program feedback either.   I'm disappointed.   I had tons of stuff to try on the MFT camera... OCT 19 anamorphic, SLR Magic 35mm T0.95 and gems from 2-years worth of collecting lenses to suit the sensor size, in terms of my GH2 MFT lenses, yet some marketing muppet thinks 30,000 spambot followers on twitter are preferable.

  16. Yesterday I watched Dexter and he's a lot talking to himself. They use his voice in a slightly different audio mode to mimic that he's thinking. A cool tool to tell stories - but I'm breaking my head over the way this can be done. Anybody?

  18. To be noted :   On my post about Bayer and 4:2:2. All I wrote is valid in 1:1 Bayer resolution to final resolution, meaning a 1920x1080 Bayer for a 1080 final resolution.   If you have higher resolution Bayer this change. Ideally, a bayer sensor should double (or quadruple) the final resolution, eg. 3840x2160 for a 1080 video. From there, you could get a nice 4:4:4 (slighlty oversampled in the green.)
