I came close to attempting this mod myself, but decided to bite the bullet & send my mint single coated Nikon Isco[30mm] from Aust all the way to Vandieman Films in London to get re housed - I bought a new Pelican case for the journey - but still bloody scary! ...now it's there I'm glad I did it - I'll post upon my baby's return : )2 points

can you imagine kids today sitting through 'Lawrence Of Arabia' or 'Dr Zhivargo'..... 3 hrs long.... two of my favourite all time films ever, David Lean and Freddie Young at their best .. long takes ,stunning cinematography , no MTV quick edits , no CGI explosions and a story with a plot and grown up dialogue......etc etc Films are now made for a gerenation with ADHD and 40 minute attention spans and sound bite one liner scripts. So roll on the Indie arthouse digital revolutuion , if it makes more new directors make intersting films then thats a good thing in my book!!2 points

2.5K CinemaScope anamorphic raw on the 5D Mark III
Typemypeen reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Download the 3K Vimeo file and playback on a 2.5K or 4K display for best results Download a pack of DNG frames from the original raw files to judge quality The spec sheet is impressive. 4:4:4 colour sampling from 14bit linear raw and 1280 lines of resolution with an anamorphic compliant 4:3 aspect ratio. This compares to the image quality of the Sony F35 (Superman Returns, Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland) which cost $250,000 just 5 years ago. Part of an interesting article on film viewing habits, it relates to a recent piece on money destroying the movies: "He also hinted that he may never make another film, and Lynch blames the profit obsessed movie industry and the death of avant-garde cinema for his ''depressing'' lack of a future movie career." http://entertainment.stv.tv/showbiz/325148-david-lynch-slams-modern-film-viewing-habits/ He said: ''With alternative cinema - any sort of cinema that isn't mainstream - you're fresh out of luck in terms of getting theatre space and having people come to see it. ''Even if I had a big idea, the world is different now. Unfortunately, my ideas are not what you'd call commercial, and money really drives the boat these days.'' David, who is married to actress Emily Stofle, added: ''So I don't know what my future is. I don't have a clue what I'm going to be able to do in the world of cinema. ''And television is way more interesting than cinema now. It seems like the art-house has gone to cable.''1 point

Steven Spielberg has revealed the Oscar winning blockbuster Lincoln barely made it into distribution. "[It was] this close - ask HBO" Spielberg was speaking at the University of South California Film School. The problem he says is that studios aren't taking any chances on 'fringe' subjects and scripts, preferring established franchises and superhero schlock directed by wannabes. If Spielberg can't get his artistic film into cinemas, it bodes very badly for the artistic DNA of cinema and the viability of the business which for so long has fed of ideas and talent. Have the money-men finally killed it? as everyone knows LA7200 was built for AG DVX ... is not compatible with all lenses, is not compatible above the approximately 50mm, is not compatible with some lenses because, the distance between the objective lens and the lens of the LA7200 is too high (this is improved by putting a diopter from 0.25 or 0.50 between the lens and LA7200 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci_PM-g1K6c&list=SP219BA51EFE970B89&index=54 ). What goes well with: Panasonic is the best: 20mm F.1.7 but well with Canon 24-70 f2.8 or Sigma 24-70 f 2.8 Tokina 11-16 just try it If you want, we do list, where it works well and where not ;)1 point

Anamorphic alignment
Tito Ferradans reacted to elubes for a topic
Hey Paulio I usually shine a flashlight into the lens and make sure the horizontal flare is perfectly horizontal. That's the only way I know how to do it...even with an anamorphic desqueeze monitor, I still check that way...1 point -
I just modified my Iscorama 36 for close focus
Zmu reacted to Tito Ferradans for a topic
It totally rehouses the isco, in a metal body, with follow focus gears, and closer focusing without the front element popping out. :)1 point -
BMPCC Preorder
mtheory reacted to HurtinMinorKey for a topic
I'd say we don't see the BMPC until the Fall, but when we do see it, I think it will be provided in ample quality. You have to figure that BM has learned something from their go-around with the BMCC. Yah, because there are soooo many better options out there for the price..... Wouldn't trade mine for anything, and I had to wait all of 4 days to get it. Of course other people have had horror stories, and i'm sure there are some people out there who prefer the 5D3 hack to owing a BMCC, but let's not pretend that the BMCC's been made obsolete before it ever got off the launch pad. That honor has been reserved for the c500.1 point -

It's not a matter of getting used to a habit or of overcoming a distaste. There have been studies in the 90ies about the correlation of the film image's size (relative to the viewer's field of vision) and how many details of the plot could be reported afterwards. There is a clear proof that size matters, and the advantages lie in the two-digit percent-range. Is this so hard to imagine? What about Blue Velvet, with all it's very dark scenes? What about Lawrence of Arabia, with it's grand panoramas? What about 2001, with it's dominating blackness that represents immeasurable distances and works as a wormhole for our 'doors of perception'? But even an easy-to-digest movie like Transformers will never have the same impact on a phone, retina display or not. If small screens were the future, why then discussions about 4k? You can do without higher resolution (see Lynch's Inland Empire), but for a cinematic experience you must blow it up! Today, giant tv sets and high quality beamers have made home cinema installations easy and affordable. With the right attitude (isolation of your screening room from the rest of the mundane world, dimming the lights, raising the volume, becoming unavailable for calls or other messages), you needn't go to the cinema, only if you want to see a new film. What is more, people in their 20's suffer from a form of deprivation, for which their smartphones are as well the cause and a kind if remedy. I am in several facebook and whatsapp groups (I have to, if I want to keep in touch with people of that age). I assure you, it's not just a silly game like when we used to send us silly or obscene letters under the desks. It's stultifying. The road to disaster. However, as the very interesting 'Lincoln'-thread suggests, cinema is experiencing a crisis. Maybe two hours are either too long to transport an audiovisual idea or way too short. Films should either run 3 minutes or develop interactively as a television/internet series with open end. If the form can change - the size, the length, the narrational structures, what have you - the content will allow for new ventures as well. An example: Erdogan might learn from a short clip that he no longer represents his people and is disempowered effectively, making the future development a mere formality. 'Film' could become an instrument of communication in the best sense.1 point

Ashton Kutcher http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yMSsf9szC2o Have they done the story justice? Hard to tell from the trailer. I'm expecting it to be 'meh' at best.1 point -
Ginger HDR for 5D MKIII raw in Premiere
jgharding reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Ginger is still in early stages. I cover it in the book. I am sure Cloud support will come but they have much more to do first. I tried Cloud yesterday and I see it has absolutely zero Cinema DNG support. They removed it altogether! Maybe they'll get it right for version 9 :)1 point -
David Lynch "may never make another film" due to the profit business.
Le Pouyf reacted to Bioskop.Inc for a topic
He's been struggling for quite some time. I saw an interview with him a few years ago & he was exasperated that he couldn't raise money for a new film - real shame! The last thing i caught was that collaboration with Sparklehorse - music & a book of stunning photos! The real problem with him is that people forgot how big Twin Peaks was & when it came to Mulholland Drive, TV didn't want to know so it became a film instead. Perhaps he'll turn to crowd funding?1 point -
I hope he can make more films as he is a mad genius ! we need more people like him making interesting films!1 point

Editing raw video on a $900 Hackintosh as well as on a $5000 Mac Pro
mtheory reacted to HurtinMinorKey for a topic
So i finally caved and bought a BMCC (it arrived today), now i need to get a desktop to tame the beast. I've gone back and forth between Mac OS and Windows(I own both already), and I've finally decided on going with Windows for my workstation. It was a close call, but at the end of the day the the price/power of a WIN desktop won over the ease of use Mac. Here are the specs: ASUS P9X79 WS Sealed Liquid Cooling Systems Overclocked Intel Core i7 3930K 4.0GHz - 4.2GHz LGA 2011 Hex-Core Processor (12MB L3 Cache) 850 Watt Corsair TX850M Single 4GB EVGA GTX 680 Genuine MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Edition 240GB Intel 520 Series 2X 3TB SATA 6.0Gb/s, 7200RPM, 64MB Cache 12X Blu-ray (BD) Disc Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD) (No DVD/Blu-ray Playback Software Included) Anyone with last minute suggestions, please chime in.1 point
