Above: EOSHD picked up this Bolex H16 for under 400 euros - it came with a complete set of Schneider Xenon lenses I love the 16mm and Super 16mm format and there are two cameras on the horizon that could offer very exciting images. Digital Bolex with their global shutter, raw and extensive feature set then Blackmagic with their diminutive Pocket Cinema Camera which shoots ProRes and raw. With only weeks to go until the expected Pocket Cinema Camera shipping data I've been stocking up on c-mount lenses. Here's a guide to which ones work, which ones don't, and how to spot a bargain. BMPCC Preorder
HurtinMinorKey reacted to Shane Essary for a topic
/* I guess I'm an irrepressible optimist that thinks the Internet is the solution to fraud. And nervy enough to do my part. Here we have a company that's doing exactly the same thing two years in a row and people still eating it up. */ No, you're an irascible twat who has absolutely nothing positive to say about damn near anything. I still have yet to see evidence of fraud, but I do see lots of evidence of a company that vastly underestimated production issues on what was to be a flagship product. You may not like it (and it's not something I'd wave around with pride if I were BM), but it's not like they're getting paid for selling unshipped units, otherwise we'd be seeing a ton of lawsuits, especially in lawsuit-happy-America. What do you want them to do, come lay prostrate before the mighty PederJ and beg for your personal forgiveness? Give me a break. You don't trust BM? Then don't buy a BM. I don't think there's a single person here who isn't aware of the massive issues BM has with their first foray into the digital cinema camera space. And yet, the fact that many of us are willing to give them a second chance on an upcoming product seems to infuriate you so much that you have to shit on every thread that even dares to show any sort of excitement for something we haven't seen yet, much less released. It's irritating and tiring and frankly, go find another thread to shit up. /* Meanwhile the Japanese giants the net.commentariat is determined to discredit at every opportunity just continue to quietly ship products on time that work and need no scheming or hype. Slower to roll out advanced formats and codecs perhaps, but turning a blind eye to the hackers enabling them on their hardware. */ The only "net commentariat" conspiracy you see is one you've built for yourself. I swear, the entire internet is here to make pederj buy something he doesn't want and to "Shut Me Up!" Oh NOES! No, PederJ, you are welcome to your opinions, but we all know what they are. Please, move along. Hell, many of us OWN cameras from those same "Japanese Giants we conspire against." I happen to own a Panasonic, with access to my fellow filmmaker's Canons and Sony NEX cameras, for example. I am really eager to see what the BMPCC can do and if it ships and meets MY (not your) expectations, I'll be happy to add it to my arsenal. If it comes out and it doesn't, I won't buy one. It's not rampant fanboyism, or determined denialism or whatever else you wish to attribute it to. It's simply NOT HAPPENING as you have envisioned it. It's in your head. There is no conspiracy. /* You have conceded the argument when you resort to ad hominems or simply tell or force your opponent to "shut up." */ I'm not conceding anything except the fact that you're a fucking moron.1 point -
650D attains at least 1280x720 24p Continous RAW
Josh David Lim reacted to AgentJJ for a topic
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5780.29 Canon 650D can record at least 1280x720 @ 24p RAW continously on write speed 45MB/s SD cards. Further tests on faster cards and further firmware developments pending. 650D seems to be moving ahead of 60D/550D/600D and slightly behind 50D fairly quickly with ML updates. Magic Lantern currently in Alpha stage of development for 650D: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6320.new#new1 point -

Excerpt from http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2012/09/cinemadng-in-after-effects-cs6-and-elsewhere.html One question that we’ve been seeing a lot–especially since the recent announcements of a couple of cameras–is why Premiere Pro doesn’t import CinemaDNG files. The answer is simply that we have not been satisfied with the performance that we have been able to achieve with CinemaDNG files in Premiere Pro, in which real-time playback is crucial. If it’s important to you that we add native import of CinemaDNG footage into Premiere Pro, please let us know with a feature request so that we can get a sense of whether this is an area where we need to put more effort. I imagine that the pessimism is because they cannot even manage to ship the very first model BMCC that was supposed to ship over a year ago. This is still not available for purchase anywhere that I can find in the UK. You can order it but nowhere has stock.1 point

I agree in this regard. We don't know much about bmpcc yet and should judge it's quality after release and first tests - so yes, preordering is little risky. But I think it has big potential and hope it's gonna succeed.1 point

I did a shoot last week only took a couple stills, but they are still fun. Used the lomo square front 2x 50mm attachment with the Helios 44-2 58mm f.2 with the 5dmk3. Stills become quite awesome while using the 5dmk3 while shooting raw... Orginal image is 5.7k, and then when stretched becomes 11.2K!!!! you can put that on a side of a bus natively!! Thought it was super cool, so im sharing...1 point

I think it was a decision made a while ago, before this happened: FS700 - raw - Cinema DNG on Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q BMCC - raw - Cinema DNG on SSDs BM Pocket Camera - Cinema DNG on SD cards BM Prod Camera - 4K compressed Cinema DNG no less! Canon 5D Mark III - native raw converted to Cinema DNG in post 5D Mark II - ditto 50D - ditto 60D - ditto 600D - ditto 550D - ditto Did I miss any? Ikonoskop - Cinema DNG KineRawS35 - Cinema DNG KineRaw Mini - Cinema DNG So yeah, really wise of Adobe. Well done. How about they drop AVCHD support next?1 point -
Canon 5D Mark III raw video crop mode performance
peederj reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I've not really been keeping up to date with the 5D2 as I don't have one to test with my own two hands yet. In my view, it has so many issues with raw that the 5D3 is well worth spending extra on if you are serious about shooting raw. Existing 5D2 owners should know if they're going to use raw in anger or not… So if you like it and can afford the extra, my advice is to trade it in and get the 5D3, absolutely a no brainer.1 point -
I just modified my Iscorama 36 for close focus
Zmu reacted to Tito Ferradans for a topic
It totally rehouses the isco, in a metal body, with follow focus gears, and closer focusing without the front element popping out. :)1 point
