  2. First of all, I must say I am a big fan of Lynch's films   However, Hollywood producers are really really tired of David Lynch this type of arrogant directors. In fact, there are a lot of reasons to dislike him, he's arrogant, non-marketable with freaky personality. What's worse, his projects flopped way too often.   If you are so full of yourself and think your movies are greater than most hollywood directors. Just take your shots at those blockbuster scripts and make a fortune of yourself first.    Do you actually think Christopher Nolan likes to direct Batmans that much instead of working for his own written pieces?  The reality is, you need money to run your art forms, sir.   "In this world, you gotta make the money first when you got the money, you got the power  then when you got the power, you got whatever films made"

  3. Stumbled upon this little video from FilmmakerIQ on Fstoppers, although not totally about anamorphs, it's still a nice explanatory piece on aspect ratios - and how they ended up beeing 1.33 or 2.20 etc. - and hey... Henri Chretien is mentioned.   https://vimeo.com/68830569

  4. I'm glad I've finished my Kern Switar hoarding program before you wrote this article.   There's one important things you should include.   The lenses designed for a RX Reflex Bolex were built to correct for the optical problems induced by the 9.5mm thick prism that was used to split the light path to the viewfinder and film gate.    These RX lenses don't resolve very well and suffer from significant spherical abberation without the presence of the prism, it's most severe on the wides and when at the wider open stops.       Kern lenses that have the designation AR were designed for non reflex cameras and function like normal lenses, in most cases they offer very good performance... think 60's vintage leica M's... yeah that good.     I'm excited to try them on the Pocket.    Matt Uhry www.mattuhry.com

  5. You haven't misled anyone. However, I don't think most the see the situation as black/white as you and therefore no one seems to be looking to you for advice. It looks to be a great camera and hopefully it ships on time. If not, move on to whatever else is available.

  6.     To be fair Lynchie has already done that and got his ass kicked.   I refer of course to Dune. A magnificent movie until the money ran out.   The first ten minutes blew me away and still does every time I watch it.   "I am not here, I didnt say this"

  7.   We're more than one month away from the release date and you're already blaming them for failing two years in a row, I'm not sure you grasp the concept of "optimist".   Black Magic Design has been around for a while, they've proven their value as a company with countless quality products, they didn't settle with just that and decided to come out with a groundbreaking product, they ran into some problems but seem to be learning from that, it's still only one of their many products.   With optimists like you, who needs pessimists?

  8. Some great movies were shot in Scope in the 50s & 60s using double focus, so I don't think its a barrier to good production values. Moving forward my favourite Scope movie is Chinatown, where I believe Polanski got everything right in the subtle use of the tool. I can't remember any focus pulls in that movie, so he just let the acting and story come through instead of having distractions like backgrounds changing shape. Also getting wider shots for tele lenses became a trend. Everyone seems to be asking what is the widest focal length lens you can use with this or that scope, where perhaps they should be asking what is the fastest tele lens you can use with this or that scope, after all its all about the compression, surely? If its not about the compression then just cropping the image would make life a lot easier and you then can pull & follow focus 'till the cows come home.

  9. This is probably the most misunderstood aspect of an Iscorama & is especially true of the 36/42. Single focus system so you can rack!? No! Single focus system to make your life a lot easier when trying to focus! Also, people go crazy about the 36 because its small & light (run'n'gun anyone?), but then they realise that the focus throw is stupidly long & they just can't get those shots that they want/thought they could get. I think there's a vid on Vimeo with a guy racking (the whole scale) with his 42 & it takes him ages... The mod will make it slightly bigger (with a gear) & so the throw might be a little better - but the mod is really about getting rid of that nasty plastic body (it looks really nice once its done). The 54 is the only one that has a manageable focus throw - i can wrap one hand around it & go end to end. This is the reason i cashed in on my 36 (& boy did i cash in!) & also the fact that the mod was too expensive. To the guy who asked could you have the same mod done to a 54, the only answer would be why? Its got a metal body, not a plastic one & if you get an extra large gear you should be fine...

Peederj, when I get tired of reading the same stuff on my own site, I have to make decisions to edit. If you don't want to be chopped I suggest you change the record. No more fanatical anti-BMCC rants and no more C100 fanboyism appended to my editorial OK? Can't you just try and be normal? We're not here for your winding up or for your entertainment. Try and offer us something more than just a headache. I'm getting really tired of it and it lowers the tone of the forum. You're affecting the quality of the site for everyone. Don't think I won't do something about it if it continues.

  12. I shot on 16mm film for about 15 years - I also had 2 Bolex h16 cameras I used alot -  carted them all over the world during this time. You really need to consider the BOLEX PRISM before you rush out and buy lenses   please read this carefully http://www.city-net.com/~fodder/bolex/truth.html   The Bolex H16 RX cameras and the more recent Bolex models utilize a beam-splitting prism for reflex viewing and still allow lens interchangeability. This leads to optical complications. The prism being between the taking lens and the film must be regarded as an optical element of that lens. Even though it is a very simple element with no curvatures, it has optical significance.     Lenses for the Bolex are designed to work with the prism it alters the light path to the film Black Magic Pocket camera has NO PRISM so your lenses will not be working as they where designed to properly Please make sure you understand the principles first before you buy as some lenses are affected more that others.     and then read this to undertand the prism more http://www.bolexcollector.com/cameras/h16reflex.html     this is the intersting bit from the above link......   The Bolex H-16 Reflex was also designed with a 20% more powerful motor than earlier models. On a full wind, it was possible to run the camera for 40 seconds at 16 frames per second. [1] The camera could accept three C-mount lenses (1 inch thread diameter). However, the glass of the reflex prism between the lens and film plane affected the optical correction of focal length lenses equal to or less than 50mm. To solve this problem, Kern introduced a line of "RX" mount lenses which were distinguishable by red letters engraved on the front of the barrel. (More on RX and standard C mount lenses.) It was still possible to use standard C-mount lenses of 50mm or less, but for best results it was recommended they be stopped down to at least f/5.6. [2] However, it was later suggested that non-RX lenses of 50mm focal lengths and less would likely produce satisfactory results only when stopped down to f/8 or smaller. [3]

  13. MJPEG is essentially JPEG per frame. JPEG uses a fixed 8x8 DCT which has been highly optimized (along with fast/simple quantization and additional steps for final compression output). So MJPEG might be possible on ARM. The bigger problem is high-quality de-Bayering. Even Resolve 9 doesn't do a very good job compared to ACR.

  14. /* I guess I'm an irrepressible optimist that thinks the Internet is the solution to fraud. And nervy enough to do my part. Here we have a company that's doing exactly the same thing two years in a row and people still eating it up. */   No, you're an irascible twat who has absolutely nothing positive to say about damn near anything.  I still have yet to see evidence of fraud, but I do see lots of evidence of a company that vastly underestimated production issues on what was to be a flagship product.  You may not like it (and it's not something I'd wave around with pride if I were BM), but it's not like they're getting paid for selling unshipped units, otherwise we'd be seeing a ton of lawsuits, especially in lawsuit-happy-America.  What do you want them to do, come lay prostrate before the mighty PederJ and beg for your personal forgiveness?  Give me a break.  You don't trust BM?  Then don't buy a BM.  I don't think there's a single person here who isn't aware of the massive issues BM has with their first foray into the digital cinema camera space.  And yet, the fact that many of us are willing to give them a second chance on an upcoming product seems to infuriate you so much that you have to shit on every thread that even dares to show any sort of excitement for something we haven't seen yet, much less released.  It's irritating and tiring and frankly, go find another thread to shit up.     /* Meanwhile the Japanese giants the net.commentariat is determined to discredit at every opportunity just continue to quietly ship products on time that work and need no scheming or hype. Slower to roll out advanced formats and codecs perhaps, but turning a blind eye to the hackers enabling them on their hardware. */   The only "net commentariat" conspiracy you see is one you've built for yourself.  I swear, the entire internet is here to make pederj buy something he doesn't want and to "Shut Me Up!"  Oh NOES!  No, PederJ, you are welcome to your opinions, but we all know what they are.  Please, move along. Hell, many of us OWN cameras from those same "Japanese Giants we conspire against."  I happen to own a Panasonic, with access to my fellow filmmaker's Canons and Sony NEX cameras, for example.  I am really eager to see what the BMPCC can do and if it ships and meets MY (not your) expectations, I'll be happy to add it to my arsenal.  If it comes out and it doesn't, I won't buy one.  It's not rampant fanboyism, or determined denialism or whatever else you wish to attribute it to.  It's simply NOT HAPPENING as you have envisioned it.  It's in your head.  There is no conspiracy.   /* You have conceded the argument when you resort to ad hominems or simply tell or force your opponent to "shut up."  */     I'm not conceding anything except the fact that you're a fucking moron.

  15. I save both squeezed and untouched 1080p versions of my stuff. Stretching it out can give higher resolution without looking much softer, because the vertical lines of resolution are still sharp as a tack. Add a little grain, and you've got a really nice 2.5K image.

I put the money aside for a BMPCC, but I won't be paying a premium to be an early adopter.  As mentioned in another thread, my GH2 suddenly isn't "crap" just because ML makes the Canons pretty awesome or the BMPCC gets released.  Since I've already got a sizeable investment in my Kinor glass that I'm enjoying on my GH2, it makes sense to move to another micro 4/3 format.  Again, speaking only for myself.  For working pros, a camera in hand is better than 10 cameras "coming soon any day now".
