  1. Our favourite GH2 hacker Vitaliy Kiselev has just released version 2.55 of "NTool", his firmware patcher for Nikon cameras. Vitaliy says there's references to 'LiveView Raw' in the firmware. What does it refer too? 2. Stumbled upon this little video from FilmmakerIQ on Fstoppers, although not totally about anamorphs, it's still a nice explanatory piece on aspect ratios - and how they ended up beeing 1.33 or 2.20 etc. - and hey... Henri Chretien is mentioned.   https://vimeo.com/68830569

  3. I believe, that Magic Lantern, brings a certain degree of finesse, and noticeable quality difference, with their hacks. Even before their RAW for video, ML had some amazing profiles, for shooting Seriously Flat video, on Canon cameras. Something, that made grading a pleasure.   Unfortunately, this seems to missing, with other hackers ...

    Sony RX100 mk2 and RX-1R

It's pretty nice. I had the chance to shoot with it yesterday for a short time. Didn't have much time to try video. One thing I noticed is you can both use PAL and NTSC now, but it wants to format the card when you change... weird!   Here's my article about the RX100 II and photos available for download: http://www.digifotopro.nl/content/hands-on-sony-rx100-ii-testfotos   Sony sample video's:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OGd1J5YmZU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTfe-3gEjf8

    DSLR with 10 bit out.

I wish there was one that did it to a card!  I don't want raw or big bitrates, but more colour information than 8bit would be really nice on a dslr

  8. Lynch has plenty of sense about money and business, he just doesn't care. He's fully aware that the nature of his work limits his audience, and he's okay with that. He just wants to create the things that he truly wants to create.   Your entire notion that Lynch could get whatever he wanted made by playing to the system is absurd given that Spielberg almost couldn't get Lincoln made as a theatrical film. Spielberg, who has changed the shape of Hollywood, and given it many of its biggest ever hits. Lincoln. Lynch's work is a million times less palatable to a mass audience, and a million times less likely to get major Hollywood funding.   All Lynch would have accomplished with your scenario was waste years of his life pumping out work he's not passionate about. Instead, he's given us beautiful and unique work. Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire...   The world is a better place because there are still romantic types like Lynch out there who are willing to go down with the ship for their art, and not just hacks ready to compromise themselves to get a better foothold in the cutthroat world of financing.

  9. I thought the fundamental idea behind the digital cinema revolution was that it enabled Cinema managers to download and screen what they believed to be suitable/profitable for the 'local' cinema-goers from the giant hard disc in the sky.   The old model for distribution must change to suit this century surely?

  11.     Ha!...yes, I simply unscrewed the front element which was simple enough then I removed the rear optic with a trusty hacksaw. I carefully cut the rear of the barrel off, just before the glass insert - leaving the rear optic flush with the outer tube.   Then I had two optics to play with and mount at a shorter distance to allow closer focus. I was going into this knowing that infinity would be lost...I was just after the shallow look, but with a more controllable close focus.   Before I went all 'Dexter' I checked that I had some brass tube stock so I could rebuild in case it all went horribly wrong. I acquired this x2 a while back for dirt cheap, it is probably a 5/10 condition...not a sacred flawless example by any means.   I think that with a longer bodied rehousing there would be a way of covering 2 feet to infinity...but I'm definitely happy with having it as a portrait/detail only lens. I wanted something super portable that would intercut with my Lomo footage for closeups...it seems to have a very complimentary look. And it is awesome not having to mess around with diopters.
