  1. Hi All, I just finished a big review of the Flare Factory 58 lenses from Dog Schidt Optics. You can read the full review here http://www.robbannister.com/blog/   The mandatory cat test was shot with the Neutral FF58 and the iscorama and the other video with the Amber FF58 is not with the anamorphic because I had sent it off for the close focus mod. Though the Amber version pairs really well with the iscorama and you can see a small sample of that at the end with the car.   https://vimeo.com/67975230   https://vimeo.com/69262934   straight out of the camera no CC, password: radioactive https://vimeo.com/68393006

  3.     I found this trailer much more enjoyable than the short film in the original topic.    Also, why does everyone keep capitalizing raw?

  4. Everyone's pixelpeeping noise, highlights, grade, etc. when I'd like to applaud Andrew on his anamorphic chops and being able to use a dslr to shoot a narrative in such a time-honored tradition so seamlessly. The flares, closeups, focus pulls, IQ, on a rig the size of a kid's shoebox-great job!

    Dam you ANAMORPHIC

Paulio is right,... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverything Paulio just wrote is already in the forum.    it is very rare that anyone will have a specific circumstance soooooooooooooooooo outside of what has already been covered that the answer isnt already in the forum.   i'm a cheap bastard, i didnt buy the quide, but i did spend weeks going through the forum and the answers were pretty much there,... and most of the anamorphics i have are rare and unknown.    to your original question though,.. is it really worth buying one? rich said it all, and i think that if you have to ask then it probably isnt worth it to you right now. they might get more expensive later, or later there might be some super duper new technology that blows anamorphics away, who knows.    some prices are silly,.. if i didnt get mine dirt cheap i honestly might not bother, but then i wouldnt know what i was missing :)

  6. I think that the problem with raw is that we are going to see a lot of "badly color graded" films or videos until people learn to grade it. It gives so much freedom that people tends to abuse of it. Takes time to master a thing as color. Over all its an amazing think to have it.

  7. Thanks man, They are working on more options I plan on getting a complete kit from them. A 35 would be sweet I do own the Mir 24N and it is a sweet lens. I believe this is probably the one they would use for a DSO 35 but i cant confirm that. They have a new lens called the Trump which is really interesting as you can swap apertures, tints etc and is based off the same Russian 58mm. I have also seen a prototype posted somewhere of a 35mm Trump out there.

  8. Hmm.  I wonder why he didn't shake the camera more.  Needs more cowbell   If I had to pick a list of my top 10 favorite movies of all time, at least five of them would be Lynch films.  Had a long conversation with Sean Young about Dune when I worked with her on a low budget b-flick several years ago.  That said, he's an acquired taste.  Is it really a shock to hear, in a time when people like Lucas and Spielberg are moaning about difficulties in funding, that Lynch would be singing the same tune? Don't cry David, I'll send you a love letter.  Straight from my heart, #$%#&!   This brave new world feels so foreign to filmmakers, but the theatre scene has been feeling it for decades now.  Times change, audiences change, things evolve.  Welcome to Earth

It's not advertising, I have no affiliation with the site. It's just your question sounds more like a stream of conciousness, and the next 10 questions that come after that are probably already covered and it would save everyone from having to spoon feed you. But here let me answer a couple.   Yes you will need diopters for close focus on pretty much all anamorphics, how close you can get without diopters varies, but the minimum focus for most of the popular lenses are covered in the guide, or you can google.   Yes bigger adapters like Kowa B&H,  will realistically need a rail based support rig. Even on an iscorama 36 which is compact i like to use a support.   Yes there are many types of anamorphic with names like isco, iscorama and they vary wildly in terms of features and usablity.   If you are looking at the cheap end of the spectrum,   Kowa B&H has some of the best optics of any affordable anamorphic, and a 2x stretch,  brilliant minimum focus. Only con is its dual focus.   Century optics I have not used personally but have a good reputation for usability, again at the cheaper end of the spectrum.   Beware when buying on EBAY, many of the lenses are overpriced and deliberately mislabeled "iscorama".

  10. Lynch has plenty of sense about money and business, he just doesn't care. He's fully aware that the nature of his work limits his audience, and he's okay with that. He just wants to create the things that he truly wants to create.   Your entire notion that Lynch could get whatever he wanted made by playing to the system is absurd given that Spielberg almost couldn't get Lincoln made as a theatrical film. Spielberg, who has changed the shape of Hollywood, and given it many of its biggest ever hits. Lincoln. Lynch's work is a million times less palatable to a mass audience, and a million times less likely to get major Hollywood funding.   All Lynch would have accomplished with your scenario was waste years of his life pumping out work he's not passionate about. Instead, he's given us beautiful and unique work. Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire...   The world is a better place because there are still romantic types like Lynch out there who are willing to go down with the ship for their art, and not just hacks ready to compromise themselves to get a better foothold in the cutthroat world of financing.

  11. Stumbled upon this little video from FilmmakerIQ on Fstoppers, although not totally about anamorphs, it's still a nice explanatory piece on aspect ratios - and how they ended up beeing 1.33 or 2.20 etc. - and hey... Henri Chretien is mentioned.   https://vimeo.com/68830569
