  2. The CVP message is very sad news. Personally, I'm still waiting for the BMCC with MFT mount. And waiting, and waiting. Sometimes a thought crosses my mind that would fit into a possible second "trickle-to-the-dealers" scenario: What if some parts of BMCC cameras were supposed to be manufactured in the infamous special economic area of North Korea? The whole period of BM's supply problems coincides with the shutdown of Korean political relations. Sounds somewhat absurd, but still... Maybe it's just a silly guess to entertain myself in the BMCC waiting lounge.

  4. I still think it's worth the wait.  $4000 for 4k raw/prores or $1000 for raw/prores video?  I can wait another 6 months for those things.  I don't know of anything else that is out there that comes close in terms of price/features.  If there is, let me know and I'll put my order in for those cameras.  The ML mark iii raw workflow is still in Alpha, so I don't really count that yet.     Was anyone really expecting Black Magic to deliver in mass quantities on July 25, 2013? I know we all hoped they would.  I bet Black Magic thought they would too, but really I thought, at best, it would go to a few ambassadors and we would get ours a few months down the line.  At worst, we all wait another 6-12 months and we just keep shooting how we are shooting now.  We still have great cameras to work with.   Andrew is probably one of those few ambassadors to get theirs early.  But I don't mind.  He does a ton of work getting information out to the community.  I appreciate his findings before I get mine so I don't have to go through so much trial and error.   Black Magic might consider learning the phrase, "under-promise and over-deliver."  It will add to their goodwill/brand.  Imagine if they said they would deliver in 2014 but actually delivered in July 2013?  We would be blown away.

    Where is PerfectCam® ?

Full 1920x1080 at 60p in 10-bit would be lovely. Guess we'll have to wait for next generation of cameras...

  7.   a friend of mine used this website to have some models 3d printed. i intend to use them for printing a system to make dual focus single focus (similar to what you're doing i think.)    http://www.shapeways.com/

  8. Decay is much too long for it to be strobes. Cheapest way of achieving that effect is to get tungsten work lamps from a home depot/hardware store and synchronize the 'flashing' by simply turning the power on and off on the in-line switches. Do not overload the power socket by plugging too many lamps into a single socket! This will give you the natural 'fade' between flashes. A more portable version could be made by wiring 12v tungsten lamp heads or even car headlights to a decent car battery. The proper way of doing it would be through a lighting desk and by setting up synchronized cues via a dimmer to the lamp heads.

  9. I'd question why you needed uncompressed HDMI for external recording when you get what else you ask for on the list.   Certainly with the image quality of raw on a 5D Mark III you don't need no stinky external box!     Again, kind of makes request for HDMI recording redundant. 60fps on the G6 and GH3 is nice but you can use Twixtor on 5D footage, or record at lower resolutions for raw 60fps.     The 5D Mark III is also virtually moire free, as was the GH2.     I'd ask yourself why DX crop is ideal, or why Nikon have smarter lens choices. The Nikon mount is the most limiting of all mounts in terms of what you can put on it. DX crop = Super 35mm but I'd take full frame over that given the choice, to use all that glorious full frame glass to the max and get more control over depth of field. Would be nice, but some of the newer lenses come close. Hybrid ultrasonic IS on the 100mm F2.8 is very good. The new Power OIS (supersedes older MEGA OIS) on the updated 14-140mm from Panasonic is also very effective, and will be nice with raw on the BMCC.     A few high end Canon zooms have F2.8 constant apertures. There's the new Sigma F1.8 zoom coming up too which will be very nice for APS-C / 50D raw.     Why? For events?     DSLR form factor isn't the issue for me, I like it. It is more the lack of built in ND is, and the consumer connectivity.   Now we are dreaming :)

  10. Friendly advice - Please stop using YouTube and start using Vimeo for tests, as we cannot judge anything from compressed mush :)

To buy or not to buy

Hello I am new here and really hope that this is the right place to post this, if so, please excuse me ;) So to my question... Since the latest developments with the ML RAW Hack on the 5D Mk3 (and a whole bunch of others) is still moving and running like a charm it seems, I am more and more drawn towards buying a 5D Mk3. As I am still some young guy, fascinated by cameras and the movie making world and still not really earning thousands a day, this would be a HUGE investment for me. I got my 60D and some glass, but damn I really have the feeling that I´m running into my limits there. I like the camera, I own it since it was released and it has fulfilled its job eversince, but I feel like its time to step up the game a bit. Could this be the right choice? Would it be gamechanging for me?   Also feel free to make this the general go-to thread with equal matters relating buy/dont buy decisions ;)   Cheers, Lukas
