  1. Just got back from the L.A. Blackmagic event today. I suspect Blackmagic is about to get ranted on by quite a few online sites for pushing back the release date that they so confidently affirmed wouldn't be an issue back at NAB.   The Blackmagic Pocket is also a slow trickle. According to some dealers yes the Pocket cameras will start shipping over the next week or so....straight to the Blackmagic offices and not to dealers! That's right, the Pocket cameras will actually first stop at Blackmagic where they will receive a firmware update, and only then will they start to be shipped to the dealers. I'm told to expect a very few trickle, so for some people who preordered the Pocket cameras, it could still be a couple of months away.   The Blackmagic Production camera was also a disappointment, not just for the delayed shipping, but also for the fact that they still seem not quite ready in the software/firmware departments.   Lastly, Resolve 10 is supposedly still on track for "3rd quarter" which could be any day, or still a couple of months away.   All in all not a particularly exciting or revealing day with Blackmagic....but they did have free cookies!

  2. Mosaic Engineering are preparing an anti-aliasing filter for the BMCC, but ideally it should be in the camera out of the box along with a built in ND wheel.   Now with this kind of spec creep you are going to get a price rise.   So maybe consolidating should mean evolving the BMCC rather than revolutionising it.   Evolution for me would be -   - Existence - Higher quantities produced to meet demand - Firmware update for audio meters, histogram, better focus assists - Active mFT mount like Pocket Camera - Compressed raw - Improved LCD   I'd take all that, even for an extra $1000 instead of the 4K camera.

  3. Took my friend Susanna to a very spooky abandoned sanatorium in Berlin last weekend. Here are the results -   http://www.flickr.com/photos/eoshd/sets/72157634748415392/   The Jupiter 9 also works very well with anamorphic. Not very sharp wide open but the look is great at F5.6. It has interesting bokeh going on. This is a cheap lens - I paid around 100 euros for it.   Pentax 28mm F2.0 -     Jupiter 9 85mm F2.0 -       There's more of the location here when I visited with the Sony RX1...   http://www.flickr.com/photos/eoshd/sets/72157634421410257/

  4. The GoPro has a fisheye lens. Resolution is only one part of the image, in same way that size is only one part of architecture. How can you possibly compare?

  6. This isn't true. This forum has banned and censored people as well, because of disagreement with the prevalent thoughts / beliefs here.   It's playground antics by two opposing sides who are predominantly gear fanatics rather than film-makers. At least that's what i see. I do like this forum though and there are plenty of good posts amongst the silly ego driven fights. This is a tech forum, not a forum about filmmaking, tech people fight over stats and numbers. How many fights here have been about quality of work? It's all about who's shooting what, which camera is better yada yada, which camera company is screwing over who and so on, and some of that is productive sometimes, but 'unbiased', no way!

  7. The awful thing being good and worthy projects will fall unfunded due to the malice of a few scammers and slick operators.

  8. Promises Promises. How The New Millennium revived the 'Snake Oil Shell Game' of 1800's America. ________________________ If I had a dollar for every technology 'Gee Wiz' product rollout delay or worse, for every scam (not saying BMPCC is a scam) that collects but either delivers YEARS late or never delivers at all- I'd be filthy rich. CASE: As a onetime Kickstarter aspirant (not a video related project) I studied the most compelling cases to learn the ropes pulled by the successful ones. Here's a typical example. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/midasmount/snapfocus-follow-focus-system Funded up to 500% of Goal Net = $111,000.  Funding Period ended June 2012 I went over to thier website yesterday July 23rd, 2013 to see how things were going. Here's a screengrab of thier homepage Here's the blurb incentive for the highest backers... Pledge $2,499 or more 4 backers THE DEALER PACK. Get 9 SnapFocus units that will arrive in time for you to sell them for the holiday season and one LIMITED EDITION SNAPFOCUS unit with an estimated September delivery date. Estimated delivery: Nov 2012 Nov 2012 - July 2013 = 8 months and counting!   So, how about thier paying customers? $111,000 is a pretty big stash for bicycle handlebars turned follow focus contraption don't you agree? You'd think a year would be enough to turn out some deliverables right? Have a read... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/midasmount/snapfocus-follow-focus-system/comments Now. In all fairness, BMPC looks like an eminent deliverable,  but will it astound or be a flat  or incomplete delivery? Oh gosh. No 4K yet. Will they then say, oh gosh! No lens yet how about a pinehole instead? Kidding :D   I belong to about 35 Forums in about 5 domains (over 10 years) and have seen this pattern of deceit a lot. I could write a book on it but not here. It's what I've dubbed the 'Snake Oil Shell Game' . It's given birth to many awesome products and obviously some trash but also to many. many scams. What folks need to understand is that it's NOT about customers at all. It's about how VC funding occurs in the New Millennium. Blame the dot.com era craziness on this (start ups sucking in vast sums of loose cash and going belly up rather than IPO) . In the old days, if you didn't deliver the goods, the banks would swoop in and take all your tools, property and remaing cash away from you. These days it's just a slap on the wrist a chapter 11 or 7 filing, a name or brand change and you were off to rip another community of suckers off. The operative culprit is always ......  PREORDERS Don't do them. EVER They are the trick that sucker you into financing someone else's posh lifestyle and retirement rather than yours.    There is community of people out there that have no respect for paying customers and it takes teeth pulling to get them to poney up refunds or end products. Your best bet is to stand in line for products that are already shipping. You KNOW you don't really need 'IT' ASAP, you are just feeding a psychological addiction to über-cool toys so why not play the waiting game to YOUR advantage not thiers.

    GH3 catch up thread

https://vimeo.com/70366688   https://vimeo.com/67036518   30sec spot for TV. Glass used were OM 12mm f2, Panny 20mm f1.7, and  Nikkor 55mm f1.2. Really loving GH3 and I still get surprized seeing some of the footage that comes from this camera. Locally most people are using FS700s for TV and I'm happy that such a little camera holds it's own against footage shot on the FS700.

  10. Criticism will be healthy for BMD, it will prevent them from becoming the next RED cult and keep fanatics and douchebags at bay.

  11. I have been the ultimate whinging pom this past week but yeah - I feel it's justified.   Last year was different, I defended them all the way for months and months, publicly and privately.   What changed for me this year is that they clearly disregarded customer concerns and carried on as normal. mFT body 9 months late. New cameras likely late. Small quantities. This is not so much a balls-up out of their control any more, but bordering on disrespectful. Even John Brawley who I respect a lot, handled me with a poor attitude on BMCUser the other day, practically implied I was nothing but a peddler of hype with my BMCC coverage on EOSHD.   I have to say, I don't think quite so highly as Blackmagic now as I did when they started out on this venture.
