MC Anamorphic Flare Conundrum
Tito Ferradans reacted to Bioskop.Inc for a topic
So i've got a couple of MC Anamorphics (Iscorama 54 & Widescreen 2000) & obviously they don't really produce flares - albeit under extreme/strange circumstances & even then nothing to write home about. This is fine, its why i bought them & so this isn't a complaint or a "damn i wished i'd never bought them" type post. The other day i paired the 54 with a Zeiss Planar 1.4/50 ZE to take some lovely sterile pictures & the bloody thing wouldn't stop flaring! When i got home i paired the Zeiss with the Widescreen 2000 & the same thing. So WTF is going on? As i thought that combining 2 MC lenses would never in a million years produce a flare, but they seem to have cancelled each other out. So does anyone have any explanations/theories for why this is happening?1 point -
MC Anamorphic Flare Conundrum

Sorry deleted the pics as i needed the space on the sd card - doh! And don't get excited, as they were more of a surprise than mind blowing. Basically the 54's were a more pronounced Red, not distracting but you could clearly see the flare. I tried the Widescreen 2000 when i got home against a light & it was turquiose - i'd never seen it flare before. I'll try & make a video when i get back home tonight (if i haven't drunk too much!).1 point -
Mac vs PC debate has shifted to cameras....pathetic. Assuming you have the luxery, pick the right tool for the job/ budget and don't bank all of your pennies on companies offering the moon on a stick, with a dubious delivery history. It was not too long ago that manufacturers announced cameras after they were stacked in warehouses, ready to be shipped. Now people are announcing cameras after a quick CAD design and a handshake promise from a chip supplier. It seems that the recent disappointment with large (or small) companies are due to them being way too optimistic about every link in the real world manufacturing chain and too carried away with customer excitement for a product. Give me a boring company that only announces when its products are ready, but listen to the right people for the target they are trying to hit. Of course people are entitled to be mad at them if you we're an early adopter/preorder customer...but only so much these days (after multiple broken RED and BMD delivery/spec promises)....we have been here before. It is a bit like expecting money back from a gambling addict....they will tell you every optimistic tale about how they will deliver your goods, meanwhile their car is being towed away behind them.1 point

Canon 7D raw with Magic Lantern - 1st sample footage in the wild

You can be creative on a paying job as well, but yeah - the creative filmmaking community for too long has been held hostage by the pro video community and their needs always get taken more seriously, because they make the most money. EOSHD seeks to associate itself more with the creative producers on a shoe-string budget than with the pro video community and their industry tools. I suggest both sides stop viewing each other with distain, realise their differences, and stops trying to ram one's own needs down each others throats, C100-luvva man especially.1 point

That collage took some work. (And then you went and cut it down!) I addressed this in the recent strategy thread. Why aren't the "DSLR shooters" willing to fork over $5500 for a nearly-complete camera that saves you from buying endless add-ons? ND/IR filters, XLR preamps and built-in stereo mics, top and side handles, EVFs (OK but it's usable in a pinch) and articulated LCDs, EF mount adapters (assuming people have some of the 100 Million EF lenses extant), peaking, zebra and waveform monitors with audio level metering, one-touch custom white balance, log gamma, usable ISO 6400 and 20,000 with post NR to save on lighting, cheap compact commodity media and replaceable batteries that last all day without offloads or recharges,... how many things have I overlooked that the C100 offers included in the tin? How much does all that cost to duplicate (in an awkward manner) for your "cheaper" solution? Why am I one of the only people willing to point this out? Oh right, because everyone else who realizes this is out shooting and no longer thinking about cameras. Come to think of it I'm late getting the shot list out.1 point

I think the price point should be taken into consideration here (even before the discount). Look, the situation is pretty clear -- shooters' expectations about gear have been rising, Canon instead of delivering a true improvement over the mighty 5D2 put out an overpriced 5D2.5 which had everyone besides the most ardent Canon fans pretty disappointed. Then came their Cinema line which left everyone even more baffled with pricing that was far more than the 5D crowd was willing to fork over (without the benefits of RED's extra bells and whistles). Red meanwhile failed on their promised 3K for $3k and continued their trend toward pricey and proprietary gear. I think Blackmagic was the only company to truly understand the costumer base that made the 5D2 so popular and delivered a camera which addressed many (but not all) of the wishes of that crowd --- namely better image quality, higher resolution, better interfacing and more robust post friendly codecs in a DSLR pricing. Did they deliver on everything? Of course not, but I think most people are willing to cut them more than a little slack.1 point

First of all, ridiculous speculations about a company going out of business when all indications point the other way: They can't produce cameras fast enough = big demand They clearly stated they were able to lower price due to better cost structures People who use the cameras seem to love them. Secondly, cameras like other electronics works fine regardless of the status of the manufacturer.1 point
