  2. So many of us are absolutely obsessed with talking about VL and PB on this forum.   Its as though people forget how may other filmmakers are out there actually making amazing films, all accessible within a few mouse clicks or fingertip touches.    The world is bigger than you think.

  3. As always, Andrew, It's very well done. Congratulations in your achievement. Is this anamorphic set up for the BMCC EF or the MTF?

  4.   But he did push it in post, and that contributed to the noise. Even though it wasn't much, when you expose to the bottom part of the range in raw mode the camera is really sensitive (that's why its DR is better than other cameras in it's price range).  It's also why exposing to the right within reason (95% clipping on brightest spot), gets you the most control over your image.     ETTR and clipping are two different things.  You should never clip.   JG, the most sensible point in the DR (as you said) for the BMCC is always going to be the least sensitive region (the right), such that you do not clip.

  5. Harsh sunlight + event can be a pain. You don't get the luxury of setting up silk frames. The best you can really do is ND or stop down and have a camera with a lot of latitude, then drop the contrast in post.   If you have control over your subjects ask them to move into the shade.   That Australian sun is brutal on contrast ratios.

  6. LOL. peederj.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZeDFwTcnCc     The highlights all had boatloads of headroom on that clip.  You know, you'll feel better if you just break down and get one.  That way you won't have to waste so much time being jealous.  At the very least, you won't sound like a tool to people that actually know how to use the camera.

  7. Helios + Sankor is very nice and sharp and does not vignette on m4/3 (in my experience) but that might be difficult if you're on APS-C (or full frame)!   BTW I do not agree on better quality lenses are always overpriced. There are many ridiculous listings but on the other hand good quality comes at higher prices. Nothing wrong with that. And there is a huge difference between a Bolex Möller and a Sankor (sharpness /at any aparture, handling/no diopter, focussing, weight, character).

  8. There are few options for projection lens most of them are big and heavy i have one it is 5 lbs that  paid 100 but using it is not practical at all, it is to big and you would need some support for it.   Anamorphic shooters guide which i have tells you to stay away from those big lenses what i did in my case is to and what guide recommends is smaller projection lens like kowa or sankor 16c EOSHD Rating for sankor is - 7/10. But better quality lens you find on ebay are wayyyyy overpriced.   I have sankor 16C lens it is small there is even smaller like bolex anamorphic but they are like over 1000 but sankor 16c is just fine it can be supported by your Camera body   If you are interested I have Sankor 16c for sale with 52mm clamp and hellios 44-2 lens i am asking 350 plus shipping i believe it is good deal since sankor alone on ebay runs for 500 then you weould need clamp another 50 to 60 dollars and hellios is about  30 to 50 dollars. Why hellios it is really nice look with sankor is it old Russian lens and it is build like a tank with no to limited vignetting.   email me at johhny003@gmail.com if interested   I was about to  post the lens on ebay when took a detour and seen your post   Images of lens is in good condition and glass is in awsome condition it cones with fron cap and diy back cap   Thanks

  9. With a bit of curves, the highlights look quite nice. When filming it would be good to just keep in mind that you have to expose for the highlights (just like the GH2), and recover the detail from the shadows in post. All of these clips are a little overexposed, really, for the subject at hand (which is why most of the grades people have posted are darker). Anyway, here's my cinamatic take. Grades rather nicely.
