B4 on a Canon EOS
Lee Mullen reacted to Lee Mullen for a topic
Anyone successfully tried a B4 with a 2x doubler on a Canon EOS camera? Seems with ML you get a 3x crop function which is really nice (650D). Adapter I've ordered. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181213359007?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l26491 point -

future proof Manual Focus lenses for BMPCC & M43 BMCC
earnesync reacted to nathanleebush for a topic
I've been stewing about what lenses to invest in with my upcoming BMPCC order and thought maybe you guys could weigh in with your collective wisdom. I was leaning toward Nikkor AI-S glass because it was the pinnacle of manual lens tech in the manual lens photo heyday, has long focus throws, is relatively portable, and is flexible if I want to jump up to larger sensors in the future (does anyone think this 16mm sensor will stay around indefinitely?). Also, I could then hack an APS-C and a FF Canon for RAW and have three focal lengths for each lens, effectively. Or I could get the Metabones Speedbooster essentially making it a Super 35mm equivalent, more or less. Then I read one perspective that since using FF glass on the Micro Four Thirds BMCC and BMPCC sensor is cutting into the center of the glass means it will magnify all the imperfections of the lens. A friend I trust on technical matters agreed with this, saying Nikon glass would look bad no matter how good the original optics and the Speedbooster just adds more glass distorting the image. He seems to think the better approach is to get super 16 C-Mount glass designed for the sensor size, and then sell it if I change to a larger sensor camera .. kind of a "get what you need now for optimal results, and don't think about five years from now" mindset. I'm now leaning this way, thinking that the super wide focal lengths I'll need for the BMPCC and BMCC will be useless to me anyway if I decide to go with a larger sensor in future (I'm not into superwide lenses). Anyway, any thoughts would be much appreciated! TL;DR: I want future proof and flexible glass that will still shine on the BMPCC. Is this possible or should I go with optimized C-mount or M43 glass?1 point -
SLR Magic anamorphic prototype V3 - Part 2 - The footage
Sean Cunningham reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
In part 2 of the SLR Magic anamorphic coverage we'll look at how the prototype lens looks and performs on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. There's also a poll in which you can help influence the final lens flare this anamorphic produces. Why KineRAW MINI could be your next camera
mtheory reacted to Dan Hudgins for a topic
You should do careful testing of the 5D3 when anti-OLPF sharpen is applied for aliasing and moire when good sharp lenses are at prime stol and accurately focused. Likewise with the BlackMagic 2.5K camera and its lack of an OLPF filter. The OLPF filter in the KineRAW-S35 (tm) prototype I tested seems to give the needed results using real cinema 35mm lenses in the 2048x1080 mode for cinematography. Its not just a matter of price of the camera, if you are making a movie you want the MOVIE to have some value, so the tools you use impact the look and feel of the end result, and how well you can do the cinematography, if you have a KineRAW (tm) its similar to using a movie camera so does not maybe get in the way of your working like you would with a film movie camera, and the OLPF is designed for cinemitography with sharp cinema lenses, so you want to avoid being penny wise and pound foolish in selecting a camera based on cost, you are making a movie and will have much larger costs involved so you want to get the images that will help you make the time and money well spent overall...1 point -
SLR Magic anamorphic prototype V3 - Part 2 - The footage
richg101 reacted to pchristoph for a topic
I'd like to see some testing of SLR Magic anamorphic lens for sharpness at corners using a camera with full frame sensor or minimal crop factor. I'm not convinced it will have corner sharpness using a camera without a large crop factorsuch as BMCC. How about testing it on a GH2 with speedbooster? : ) Now that would be cool.1 point -
Tony Wilson mentioned they were using century optics for "reference".1 point

SLR Magic anamorphic prototype V3 - Part 2 - The footage
JohnBarlow reacted to Paulio for a topic
This is much better than the previous test, as I suspected the constant soft focus must have been due to user error. The image quality here looks great, nice and crisp. That said the flares are horrendous and the anamorphic character is so mild that simply letterboxing your footage would get you close enough to this and you could spend the $1500 elsewhere to bump up production value.1 point -
New 3000x Sandisk Compact Flash cards to supercharge raw video on 5D Mark III
Julian reacted to stratocaster0811 for a topic
These cards aren't backwards compatible with CF cards or cameras that use them. These are part of a standard that was announced back in 2008 as a successor to CF. They use the faster SATA architecture as opposed to the PATA architecture of CF and have SATA connectors. The 256 GB ExtremePro card that was just announced is the conventional CF type not CFast so those read/write times are not reflective of the new CFast cards. So unfortunately, while it is good to dream that you will get great raw video framerates with such cards. The hardware is not compatible with the 5d3.1 point -
LOL Rudolf. I love that vintage Iscorama advertisement you attached with your post! Very cheesy :) Never seen that one before.1 point

Introducing the SLR Magic anamorphic lens - hands on with new V3 prototype

Introducing the SLR Magic anamorphic lens - hands on with new V3 prototype
KarimNassar reacted to Sean Cunningham for a topic
Andrew states it has a 50mm rear element, comparing it to the Iscorama 54. In the picture where he's holding it with the Panasonic 20mm pancake lens attached you can clearly see a 46mm->52mm step-up ring. So the rear threads are 52mm, which makes this essentially the same size as a Century Optics adapter.1 point -

Any rough indication of price?1 point -
Slightly off topic, but anyone know the resolution of this image (I'm not a mathematician)? Rather than shooting anamorphic, I'm thinking of getting a 4K camera.1 point

As far as I know, 5D Mark III can only record RAW on a fastest CF card. I read a spec of Blackmagic Pocket, it records RAW on a SD card. How is it even possible?1 point
