  1. I was out and about the other day and saw some fellow filming with a very odd thing in his camera hotshoe.   It was a small motor with a small eccentric weight which gently vibrated the camera at some set speed. He explained that is was a cheap (<£10) way of ridding moire from his footage.   I thought he was maybe quite mad, but later found that Pentax are using their in-body stabilisation to perform the same function.   How weird is that?

  2. Engaging the uninterested general public with dedicated cameras was never going to be sustainable - not with smartphones around. But I think the decline of consumer DSLRs will actually be the best thing to happen to photography and video in the digital era. Finally companies will have to get innovative, putting more weight behind enthusiast and pro orientated camera line-ups. 4. Don't underestimate the student, hobbyist, amateur photographer with aspirations of being a prophotog who invest thousands of Dollars buying and upgrading their Canon DSLR's to shoot weddings for a living. DSLR's still make you look like a pro to a client.

  5. 4:2:2 is better color than avchd. Raw is basically the best the sensor can do though.

  7. Just sayin.. I'm all for different tools, looks, etc. If you start with a raw image, you can make it look like you set it on fire if that's your aesthetic. Andrew's talking about having an image that gives you the most freedom. Because It's a lot harder to polish a turd if you change your mind later on.

  8.   Sorry guys - i had to! I promise i won´t put any videos of flowers nor cats into this forum with this lovely glass! (ok maybe cats) I am sure that my Leica-R taking lenses will fit perfectly with the Iscorama since these lenses were produced at approximately the same time.

  10.   I really hope there will be a new wave of influental independant films that deserve this name. Even worse than being dependant on the politics of major production companies is the situation in my country. It has the "FFA", an acronym for film promotion association, founded in 1968, and it effectively finances german theatrical films with tax money, but approving the standards, which can only be described as uncinematic and boring. It's a federal association that decides if scripts are worth the investment, and you can easily imagine what that means for creativity and originality.    I particularly hope, that indie filmmakers will stop to think retro. If they want to reinvent cinema, there is no frigging 'cinematic look' to be followed, no grain filters, no exaggerated DoF-gimmicks, no oange-teal-'blockbuster'-grading, that would be embarrassing. There has to be a good and revolutionary story that dictates it's own aestethics, preferably clean and straight.   Don't dream about fancy imagery, you've got a camera with sufficient color depth to look good on a big screen. Now it's time to tell something!
