In depth coverage - Panasonic announce 4K video capable Micro Four Thirds sensor
Germy1979 and one other reacted to ScreensPro for a topic
The most important spec there is the 10bit/4:2:2 I'd rather have raw 1080p (5DIII) than 4K.... But if it really has 10bit/4:2:2 it becomes an interesting option.2 points -

I just saw a full F3 pack on reduser for $5k.... Wish i was based in USA, so much cheaper! Trying to find which external recorder I would need for 1080/60p... Really love the F3 image and think it was an underrated camera. btw - just saw a Sony F65 package on reduser for $40k! Sony really need to learn to market their high end gear.2 points -

Download the LUT now For the full guide to the world of raw video on the 5D Mark III - order the EOSHD Shooter's Guide book by Andrew Reid With the new version of Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve (10.0) you can grade and edit 5D Mark III raw footage. EOSHD Film LUT is an instant cinema style which quickly and easily improves the look of 5D Mark III raw video in Resolve 10. No grading skills required. The recent rumours surfacing of Panasonic releasing an AG-GH4 around the $3000 mark have been given a boost. Panasonic have now officially announced the existence of a 16MP Micro Four Thirds sensor which is capable of 4K video at up to 30fps, matching the rumoured specs of the GH4. Tantalisingly this sensor is even available as a customer part on the open market, making it available to Blackmagic Design. Read the full article here1 point -

Hello to everyone, I would love to start shooting anamorphic video with my canon mark iii, and I am thinking to buy an entry level anamorphic lens and the adaptors required. Would you kindly direct me to the right path of anamorphic discovery? Which lens should I start scavenging the internets for..and if you own a mark iii what is the adaptor that works? Is there a topic for Anamorphic lenses for canon i can search; My budget is modest. my anamorphic appettite big. Thank you for your help c.1 point -

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera gets raw!
ZecyAccethy reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Download firmware v1.5 from Blackmagic Just a heads up (full post to follow when I've had some shooting time with it) - the eagerly awaited firmware update from Blackmagic Design which gives the Pocket Cinema Camera raw video has arrived. This will allow you to shoot 12bit Cinema DNG in full 1080p. Blackmagic recommend the Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB card for raw. I am going to be using the LOMO anamorphic rig shown above, which is mounted via an OCT-18 adapter to the Pocket Camera. I can highly recommend upgrading from Resolve 9 to Resolve 10. There's no reason to keep the old version. The new one is much better for editing Cinema DNG raw. You may also want to give the EOSHD Film LUT a go with Pocket Cinema Camera raw. It should give you an instantly appealing film-like look in Resolve 10 with no grading effort required. Full article later in the week!Read the full article here1 point -

The choices I suggested (mostly Century & Optex) are not heavy, you will feel them as an extra normal lens, so you will not see such a difference. When you'll have the anamorphic (stay tuned in the forum or/& Ebay as your friend is right!) test it with all your lenses & you'll see which fits most. Maybe, you will need to buy an extra lens that fits better with camera&anamorphic... Take care.1 point -

Hi Yannis, geia sou ellada sti gallia!...yes im definitely getting Andrews guide,.thanks for the advice and the kind words, im thinking i probably will need an 85mm lens.. as the title says im looking something that is for girls...in the way that i cant carry too heavy gear! Example i have a very shaky hand when i handheld heavy lenses (well maybe even when i carry light lenses) that is why one of my favorite lenses is the Voightlaender 40mm pancake, I use my 50mm zeiss for most of my footage, i love it actually and it helps. my camera is the mark iii add 2 lenses and it becomes as heavy as a....well Canon. So i must look for an anamorphic lens that is not too heavy combined with a 85mm or 50mm.....1 point -

yeia sou ellada! Hi Chris, have you read the anamorphic guide by Andrew, so to have an idea of some important characteristics concerning the compatibility of your gear (camera+lenses+anamorphic lens) & what the result may be? If not, I suggest you'll do. Send me a pm. From my small experience, Panasonic LA7200, Century, or Optex will fit you most and you'll avoid the cost for a clamp, as the need just a normal step-up ring to adjust the anamorphic on the taking lens. I have the last 2 (but for use on m4/3) and I'm very pleased with the results. Right now I'm waiting to receive the D610 so to make a test on FullFrame too. Also add to your budget some money for close-up filters (diopters) and you will need of course a filter clamp to attach the close-up filter on the anamorphic. Which meansthe extra: ~€70 (shipped) for the clamp (if you'll purchase a Century or OPTEX) and ~€75 for diopters (you'll need at least a +0.5 & a +1 close-up). *By the way, filter clamp only from Redstan.com & he has the last one for sale which fits to both Century/Optex. After that he told me that no more again... Hope that helped, Yiannis. ps: I saw your work, well done!1 point -
If the coming camera can record the full sensor in a 4:3 aspect ratio at 10bit 4:2:2 I'd be very, very happy. It's the way anamorphic shooting was intended many years ago, and for good reasons. Fingers crossed.1 point

not sure if anyone mentioned it before, but smallhd has a shared googledoc for their customers abt anamorphic settings for their custom scale. this is what i got from dave from smallhd a few months ago. "Update for Case #SC29836 - "anamorphic custom scales" Its still a work in process but here is the spreadsheet we have made so far https://docs.google.com/a/smallhd.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtXcMLsQ0MqZdFRFX1lOcm45djJwV0MwVFRNTXo2bkE#gid=0 Take a look and see if it makes sense Thanks Dave"1 point

Also I may be biased I would definitely recommend the Kowa 16H or 8Z for you and your shooting style. The lens posted above may be worth the risk, if the dots don't show its more than half the price they normally are. The Kowa is fairly small and not too heavy, smaller than my canon 24-105mm. I do not use a railing system at this point I just screw it into the front filter thread. It is sharp, a cinemascope lens, has nice flares that are not too extreme, short focus distance of 4.5 feet, and it can go as low as 75mm on a full frame without vignetting or all the way down to 58mm wide open with correctable vignette if you choose. Here is the Kowa attached to my massive helios 40. Most other adapters require much longer focal lengths the sankor for example requires 135mm if I remember correctly. On a side note, if you have not installed magic lantern on your 5D3 I would absolutely recommend it is well even if you don't want to shoot raw video. The focus peaking and magic zoom are awesome and I use them all the time, even for stills.1 point -
wanted to share a short narrative scene i made with iscorama 36, tokina diopter, blackmagic pocket camera, and voigtlander 25mm f0.95. https://vimeo.com/78510126 it's the rebadged 36, not the 1968, so i noticed the flares off the taxi's brake light was pretty subdued. the voigtlander probably subdued it more. and it was a weak brake light anyway. and on top of that probably doesn't work to have flares in this particular scene anyway. for some reason the bokeh i was getting on the CU's with the diopter honestly looked a little spherical to me. any thoughts on that? any other critique that could probably help me shoot better anamorphic? thanks erik1 point

Dear Nikon...
zephyrnoid reacted to Oliver Daniel for a topic
Well the rumour is that the GH4 (supposedly called the AG-GH4)... is an inch thicker than the GH3, hopefully for the inclusion of an ND filter system and some extra juice. I like the ergonomics of DSLR for video, but its not perfect. The C100/C300 is a lovely camera to hold, so if they get somewhere in between (yet a bit more on the smaller side) the form factor of a DSLR and the C100/C300, then that would be awesome. Like I've said before, Panasonic have a wide open field to innovate here with this next release and make a serious statement on the design of a hybrid camera. I just want them to release it now so everyone can stop crying and get on with making stuff.1 point -
Nikon V1 + Kowa

I think it looks fine 1 point -
Sorry but i gotta disagree. I owned and used a B&H kowa for over a year and got about as good as you can really get with a dual focus system, but the fact is it takes additional time and adds additional margin for error, not acceptable on set. Great adapter for personal stuff, beautiful images, but not practical for any sort shoot where you have crew involved. Look at the above shots, most of them have messed up focus. Look at all the kowa stuff online, half of it is out of focus. If you have plenty of time and are filming your mates/kids/trees etc it's no worries. But a couple of soft shots can really screw you up on a film shoot. In any case, take your time deciding which adapter to get. There is a ton of info on this site and in Andrews guide which is impartial. Good luck!1 point
