  1. Not so strange. Coke has embraced multiculturism in their marketing going back to at least the 1970s. This is basically a variation on something like this: ...which were very successful ads here in the USA. They represent people of the world but that's what makes up America. Some people here forget that, which isn't too surprising since these folks, who will most certainly be right of center also get The Bible wrong and have a poor understanding of the "Founding Fathers" as well. Everything is twisted the further you get to the right. But enough politics, Coke has a tradition here which the latest Super Bowl ad is consistent with and it was the prettiest ad for the whole schebang yesterday which will likely go down as one of the most disappointing Super Bowl commercial years ever.

More updated rumours from 43rumors.com - G4K has focus peaking - There is an attachable XLR adapter - H264 codec all intra that give 422 color all intra in 100 mbps. To record this you will need to buy the new P2 Micro card in SD shape made by Panasonic (see image on top) - it will be switch-able from 4K and 1080P with various frame rates (can shoot 120fps at 1080P for example)

  4. Hi everybody and anamorphic lovers ! Here is my 1st movie with the upcoming SLR Magic anamorphot 1.33X - 50 anamorphic lens on OM-D & Sony A7 !!! :) It's now since one week that I own the upcoming new anamorphic lens from SLR Magic, the anamorphot 1.33X - 50. It's a compact and light 1.33X anamorphic lens, working from 40mm on full frame and 20mm on M43 systems. It has the particularity of having a focus ring for close focus, it's very convenient because you can use it without diopters. Another difference seems to be the usuability of shooting at fast apertures. I even did a fast test at T0.95 on the SLR Magic 25mm and the image was still usable ! More tests to come. I've used two cameras with two different lenses on this movie. First the OM-D OM-5 from Olympus. Despite it's not so good video codec, this camera has what the other cameras don't have (yet) : an incredible 5 axis stabilization system. The addition of the Lumix 20mm with the SLR Magic anamorphot on the OM-D make quite the perfect combo. The problem that I still have with the love-able OM-D is finding the best image mode. I'm usually using the "Art3" mode Pale&Light Color (like in this movie), or sometimes "Art4" mode Light tone mode. Second the new Sony A7, the first full frame hybrid camera. For me this camera is very lovable too. For the first time it's offering the same flexibility than M43 systems : putting thousand third part lenses (such as Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Contax, Leica, M39, M42, Cine lenses, and so on....). And enjoy those lenses in full frame. The 50$ Nikon 50mm f1.8 is a cheap and very good pancake lens. I've put on the Sony A7 with a Novoflex E to Nikon mount adapter. The result with the SLR Anamorphot is very good too, and there is less distortion on the edges than the Lumix 20mm on the OM-D. It's real obvious when you watch the difference on the flares from the two lenses. Using the diopters on the SLR Magic anamorphot improve the sharpness of the image. The 0.33X achromatic diopter from SLR Magic seems good and offer more sharpness, but it is not indispensable for close focus, because of the close up focus ring of the lens. The 1.3X gives the possibility to film closer to the subject, and the 3X I'm using too... The three diopters of the movie are reavealing tremendous flares, as you can see at the end of the "Crêpes scene". Thank you for watching ! Any comment are welcome ! :) SLR Magic anamorphot 1.33X - 50 anamorphic lens SLR Magic 0.33X and 1.3X achromatics diopters Marumi 3X achromatic diopter on Sony A7 with Nikon 50mm f1.8 E Serie and Olympus OM-D O-M5 with Lumix 20mm f1.7 pancake lens 1080 24P on the Sony 1080 30P on the Olympus from 200 ISO (most of the time), 800 ISO (kitchen scene) to 2000 ISO (couch scene) Apertures from f1.7 to f5.6, most of the shot taken at f2.8 Light Craft mark II variable ND filter Music : Trentemøller "Candy Tongue (Feat. 8. Granted. "Story" is my current perspective and maybe I'm convoluting the semantics here. Ironically, my last film was almost wholly impressionistic.

Thanks Julian, this is exactly what I was hoping would be the case. You gain a stop of light without increasing softness so to speak.

  10. Andrew, I really appreciate your having kept an open mind about this camera. Yours was the first site I saw mention that the E-M1 might be even remotely suitable for making movies - everywhere else had it that a lack of 24p made it borderline unusable for anyone "serious" about filmmaking. I was already most of the way sold on it purely for stills purposes, but your early assurances sealed the deal. I've been shooting on my E-M1 for a little over a week now, and it really is a pleasure to use. I think that's actually - for me, a casual video shooter - the most important thing: it's just plain fun. There's no stress, no worrying about rigging; you can just take your camera out as you would if you were shooting stills and still end up with remarkable results. Thanks for all your hard work and research!

  11. I'm also a new dad and have been shooting a lot of my son (video and stills) with my Lumix G6 and Nikon D5300, and until a few months ago a Canon 600D/T3i. Personally I wouldn't worry about stabilisation too much if you're looking at MFT cameras (and not needing professionally flawless results). Being able to hold an EVF up to your eye while shooting video keeps the camera pretty steady. In your situation, if I was wanting to shoot 50/50 stills video, I'd probably go for a G6 or a GX7 (the GM1 doesn't have an EVF). They are great at stills, just not *quite* as good as Nikon/Canon DSLRs. And the video is superb and easy to use compared to DSLR's. They are also small and very versatile, which for family stuff I find very useful. Nikons are a pain to shoot video with. Canon video isn't very nice. I'd say if you don't KNOW you need pro-level stills, a Panasonic will keep you very happy for a long time. Having said all of that, the Sony RX10 may be the best camera for you, but is a bit beyond the price bracket of the other stuff.

Video quality charts - February 2014

We should probably remember though that Andrew wrote an extremely positive review of the G6 when it came out. But yes surprising it got forgotten! It's far and away the best budget camera out there ATM.

  14. Ok, I know this list is purely for cameras in their stock form (EDIT: there are many cameras here not in their stock form) but I would be very interested on how you would rate something like the GH3 or GM1 with Speedbooster. I say this because you say you scored some cameras higher because you like the look of the larger sensor (subjective). If you add a Speedbooster to the GH3 or GM1 to level the playing field on your subjective taste for larger sensors, where would they score then?

  16. Show some G6 love Andrew! It's the real successor to the GH2. One of the most underrated camera's of 2013, it should get it's well deserved spot on your site of all places :) Why wait for march to put it in the list? Not sure if it's logical to put the GM1 above the GH3. Maybe the GX7 should be in that place? The GM1 doesn't have 60p for example. No audio in- and outputs. Also I'd say the D5300 / D5200 should be split. D5300 has 60p over the D5200, so I'd rank it higher. Why is the RX10 rated so low? Is the quality worse than the 5D Mark II stock? I think it'd be good to add a little bit of info to the list for each camera. Like strong points and weak points (moire, resolution, framerates, in/outputs, peaking yes/no, etc).

  17.   Pretty much a NEX 5N with a worse form factor for a lot more money, so I've never used one, therefore I wouldn't know where to place it on the chart. Pretty close to the bottom I'd say.
