  1.   You Europeans and your laws. You have some absolutely nuts ones. I'll seriously consider taking my blog out of Germany and back to the UK if I was ever stopped from practicing my arts by tree hugging personal privacy nuts.   It's just unpleasant, which is why I don't really want to talk about it on the forum.   I was once out with Slashcam testing the Canon 1D C and testing the lens for focus breathing by racking focus some shrubbery on my side of the pavement to a woman stood smoking on the other side of the road, at least 25m away and out of earshot. Guess what, 2 mins later she was stomping down the U-bahn steps after me and demanding I format the card. Horrible encounter with a nut job. Some people just need to chill out. It is not the era of the Stasi secret police any more, it is the modern world we live in.   The funny thing is these politicians are always banging on about the freedom of artists and freedom of expression then putting laws in place which diminish freedom.   Dear Berliner on the street with your finger up... My freedom begins where yours ends. Don't overreach yourself.

  2. I was at the state fair last year and I had my camera hanging down my back while I was having a beer. some dude snuck up to it and did the shocker symbol and pushed the shutter button. He got off a few shots before I noticed. So I went ahead and put his photo on craigslist casual encounters male seeking male section. And I laughed pretty hard about it.

  3. I would like to give my platform to up and coming musicians around the world to showcase their music through my cinematography to an audience of around 250,000 people per month. This is the EOSHD Music Challenge. Readers act as DJ - they can pick music from up and coming singers and bands, with suggestions that might suit the mood of my cinematography and future camera tests. Cinematic music is really important to me but I haven't been satisfied with The Music Bed or similar resources so far. How does the challenge work? 1. Suggest a band or musician on this thread. They have to be up and coming not signed to a major label or already huge. 2. I investigate and do the contacting of those which I like and credit you for the find! 3. If they agree to let me use their music, they will find a new audience through my blog and hopefully sell some tracks on iTunes from a link on EOSHD. You will be designated as the discoverer of talent and winner of the challenge. 4. You can have fun with this challenge and play DJ - use your taste to select the right standard of music to fit EOSHD and in turn you might discover new music yourself which you really enjoy listening to. 5. My cinematography at EOSHD is purely an artistic endeavour and experimental, non commercial and does not make any money but for all videos featuring unsigned acts I will consider enabling the Vimeo Tip Jar and sharing the proceeds with the musician 50:50! This is a new idea and it will start off as a trial. If it works then great! If not then we will swap things around until it does, because I am determined to find new music and up and coming artists. Good soundtracks are really important for filmmakers and I believe in finding new talent. Perhaps you know some artists yourself? Perhaps you are one?

  4. Here's something I'd like to get feedback for from all you creative types. What methods do you use when coming up with ideas for your craft? Do you find yourself too distracted by the noise of things like instagram, twitter, Facebook, etc? How do you stay focused and make your work a reality?

  5. Yes it does. Also, the Hero 3 Black Edition does 640 x 480 at 240fps, but I think the 240fps has a very interlaced looked to it.

  6. Did anybody think that it has nothing to do with the fact that you are shooting in a public space, but more with the fact that you are shooting the people themselves? I live in Belgium, and what I usually do, is walk up to the people and ask if they mind if i shoot some test video etc... they usually don't mind. But if i start filming paparazzi style without their consent... I dunno, I guess that isn't really cool. I mean, if I go shopping or take a strol in the park, I also would mind if someone was constantly filming me without me knowing... Kinda creepy if I think about it. Filming in a public space= fine Filming people without them knowing in a public space= stalkerism = not cool

  9. Also, a little on the lighter side (synthpop/electropop?), try Future Islands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vI_kx4J8Vc

  10. Yeah it uses the full sensor area and samples at that resolution. There's no crop.

  11.   Promising start.   I will promote it with an article once a few more suggestions have come in.

  12. If you can find a use for garage-punk, my band, The Angel Sluts, would be down for this. We have one video already. If you like a more post-punky sound, The Switchblade Kid would probably be okay with it (singer of my band is the frontman for that band is always looking for more exposure) although he's already made videos for a lot of his material. Angel Sluts (shot (poorly) on a GH2 + driftwood quantum b hack): Switchblade Kid:

  13. When you can buy a 4K cell phone, but not a 4K DSLR, something is seriously wrong. The camera market tanked in 2013. It's really simple. The camera companies are not innovating. You can't keep selling the same old thing year after year, and expect people to buy it. Michael

  14. While some of you complain about c100 and c300 being to expensive, it's not a problem for canon, they don't even want hobbyist to have these cameras. Those 10k cameras are for professional's that shoot low budget commercials to weddings and music videos, there is plenty of money in that segment for gadgets like these. Imagine the profit they get from a puny c300, that thing has an asp-c crop sensor, they say "canon digic III" processor and unrestricted codecs, nothing exotic like full hd at 200 fps, cpu on that thing is slow, all of that for 14000 $, t2i sensor with proper processing and video camera features at 14000$, funny shit.

  15. Really hoping they can actually follow through with any of this. The next couple months are going to be a huge deciding factor for me as to whether I decide to stick with Canon or jump ship and start swimming toward mft island. Of course I'd love to be able to embrace the benefits of both, but when it comes down to it, I just can't afford that. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

  16. I just watched the trailer. It actually looks like good fun. There's an interesting aesthetic in a lot of martial arts films in this period. Back in '83 to about '86 or so I was obsessed with ninja. I loved the Golan/Globus/Canon productions with Sho Kosugi and that silly TV show with Lee Van Cleef (The Master). A beautiful anamorphic film from the '80s that has been an influence, I suppose, is The Ninja Wars, aka Death of a Ninja. It's finally available in a halfway decent form as part of the Sonny Chiba collection as well as streaming on Amazon Prime. You'll see a lot of motifs that John Carpenter would borrow for Big Trouble in Little China, particularly the "devil monks" featured. (TRAILER HERE) It has a dreamy, storybook atmosphere that I think about and have thought about since I was a kid. I normally like realism in setting and production value but this film and Ronny Yu's The Bride With White Hair have got to be my favorite use of theatrical lighting, sets and production value in a fantasy film. (TRAILER HERE) They're both very stylish while having fantastic stories and characters as well.
