  1. this thread was a very interesting read, thanks to all who participated to the discussion

  2. FALSE! You sir, have missed the beauty of the focal reducer concept! It shrinks the entire image circle of light that was intended to cover a full frame sensor, giving you the similar FOV and DOF! You see what a sensor of that size would see, plus an extra light gathering stop because the photons are now condensed. Lenses become wider AND faster (and in many cases sharper because the imperfections are shrunk as well). It sounds like science fiction, but its just science! I'm speaking from personal experience with these as well as from a physics perspective, THE DOF DOES IN FACT CHANGE.

  3.   Hmm. Purple fringing at F1.2 on any lens is there. Even the Canon 50mm F1.2L. Same with the Nokton.   When you stop down on the Speed Booster chromatic aberrations and fringing disappear.

  4. While I like the advantages of speedboster I hate that I lose touch focus.

  5. You know you can also introduce colour as well as caps capitals and bold. This helps to get the point across even betterer.

Is there a cage for the G6?

I use the shrigg jig from Indiesystem. Its designed to fit a GH2 so its not too big (and fits with the camera mounted inside my gear bag) and I like the mounting points on the sides as well as top and bottom. Only catch is the battery door doesn't line up, so you have to actually REMOVE the camera to change memory cards (annoying). Otherwise, its a great and inexpensive cage that isn't too big.

  7. I'm sure youre mistaken there somehow Axel. The only reason there's a DOF difference is because when using the same lens on different sensor sizes, you have to stand closer or further back to get the same frame. And of course when your distance changes, so does the amount of background blur. If at 4k the GH4 with BMCC Speed booster has a 1.4x crop, then does that mean it could still possibly work with the Sigma 18-35mm? That would be sweet.

  8. B&H was showing in stock yesterday so I ordered one on the spot, going to cost me a fair bit more compared to buying in Australia but atleast its already shipped and on the way :)

  9. Test audience aside, it's surprising it got past the director, editor and producer . I can only assume it was blindness caused by editing such an enormous amount of footage as mentioned above. imagine what the actual rough cut was like, probably 7hrs long :P I don't mean to poop on the film entirely though, it's a must see and one of the most interesting films so far this year..

  10. Nothing's going to be superior to lavaliere mics. The best microphone in the world will sound lousy if it's not placed correctly. If the camera is far away from the subject, don't expect great sound. Physics. You can't deny it. Booms and Lavs exist for good reason. Since you're on a budget, I suggest getting a nice long pole, a smart PA to hold it, and putting the best 200 euro mic at the end of it. Also, a decent (self) education on how to record audio and WHY sound does what it does ... it's such a good investment, don't overlook that part.

  11. I don't get the point: If you want something robust get a '54! That "upgrade" makes all the advantages of the rather light and small Isco obsolete!
