  1. My full review of the Panasonic GH4 (final retail unit) is coming next week. Until then I am enjoying Philip Bloom's views on the camera here! A big thanks to B&H Photo & Video in the US for shipping internationally a GH4 unit with no recording limits, I got it before it was even available in Europe. Delivery took just 2 days! Impressed! 2. The more I use the a7 (for photography however) the more I like it. I used to have perfect eye-sight. In my late 40s I started needing reading glasses. I can no longer look at an LCD up close without glasses. If I try to look, back and forth, without glasses, between the LCD and what's in front of me, I get blurry eyed (and maybe a headache). With the Sony a7 I can set the diopter and have no eye strain, going back and forth. I believe Anyone who needs reading glasses, and uses an a7, will NEVER go back to a Canikon without an EVF. I can't see that I ever will. The focus assist features, with the a7 and manual lenses is near perfect. The EVF gives you a very good idea of what you're going to get in post. It's difficult to determine the fair price of something without com parables. I believe Sony could sell a fair amount of a7s for $3,500. There's no camera like it. The 5d3 gets that much. Why not? As Ebrahim said, it makes sense in relation to their other cameras. When these cameras come out, a lot of people buy them, play with them, and re-sell them back to Amazon. Within a week you can probably get an a7s for around $2,100 with almost no wear and tear. @Michael, what camera would you use to shoot both high quality, shallow DOF photo and video in a low-light, indoor function? If money is no object, what camera can match what the a7s will offer? Anyway, I'm with Ebrahim, though maybe a few weeks after it hits country stores ;)

  3. Thank Alfred Hitchcock for that one. Well before the 80's too.

  4. Are you are referring to the differences between how a larger sensor/longer/slower lens renders in and out of focus areas differently to a smaller sensor/wider/faster lens? If so, I too wish there were published tests and explanations on this interesting subject. I notice the difference - and I know a lot of people don't realise the difference. To me an 80mm f2.8 on medium format looks nicer than a 50mm f1.2 on full frame even though the fov and dof are matched on paper, the look is completely different

    GH4 4K crashes Premier

Alas, a good ol' uninstall and reinstall seems to have done the trick. Runs surprisingly well now actually. Knock on wood...

  6. I'm using the BMCC edition SB on mine for everything but Defy G2 shots (which functions much better with minimal weight). It definitely produces a nicer image and the extra stop+ is an additional perk.

  7. Andrew, i just sometime feel like youre selling your opinions as facts, which i dont agree with nor like. your tests are perfectly objective and i love your page for that. but saying that its "madness" not to use the gh4 in 4k or declining that it doesnt come "at many costs", is not true. whats true is, that these draw backs are so little to YOU, you dont mind them, and that is absolutely fine. but its just not true for everybody, like it sounds like in your answer to my post. obviously the 4k image of the GH4 is absolutely lovely and i can understand everybody using it exclusively for everything they do. but i for example shoot weddings and like to record everything with at least 50frames to have a dreamy slowmo when i need it. my G6s 50fps is soft, i hate it. having a crisp 62fps on the new gh4 is a real advantage for me. next, i shoot on cruise ships that often vibrate due to the engine. with even worse rolling shutter in 4k the footage will look terrible, having 50% less rolling shutter in 1080p is another huge advantage for me. that also applies when i have to stabilize shots in post. these things sum up in my personal use cases, which is why id rather use this camera in 1080p 62fps than in 4k. this goes against anything you believe in, but only because you re putting your focus on different features than i am :) what im saying is: the way it works right now the 4k is not a selling point for ME. the gh4 comes with other great features that are good to have, but especially on the auto focus (in video), i expected some better. i understand your opinion thinking "pietz, its the first camera that shoots seriously impressive 4k material and it even costs below $2k. how can you complain about this camera?" but if 4k isnt a selling point for me, im not left with so many other improvements in the gh4. and not having auto focus in VFM at all is just rediculous in my oppinion.

  8. I'm a big fan of the Black Pro Mist 1/4. This week I plan to do a skintone test with the GH4 in 4K, with/without Black Pro Mist filter, to see how much softness it adds to an incredibly sharp picture.

  9. Hello, This is my very first post on EOSHD (although I’ve been following this blog for several years). I’m Antoine, I live in Paris and I’m 21 years old! (I would like to apologize for my pretty weak English, which is far from being perfect..) I decided to join your community to contribute to the list of compatible BMPCC- C-Mount Lenses. To introduce myself, here are some pictures of my actual BMPCC Rig (with Contineo Cage – Ginirig / follow focus – homemade external battery adapter to V-lock battery – Small HD DP4 – Speedbooster (Chinese version) + 20-40mm Sigma etc...) I also have some C-Mount lenses (otherwise It would be off topic :P ) : 10mm retrofocus Angenieux - f1.8 (That have already been discussed a lot here, a pretty weak lens as anyone must already know) Kowa Ultra Wide Angle TV Lens - 6.5mm – f1.8 Doesn’t vignette, pretty soft on the edge at every apertures, strong distortion, but has a lot of charm (according to me) – Flares are absolutely incredible! Angenieux - 15mm - f1.3 One of my favorite lens, sharp at fast aperture, beautiful bokeh and flares. Angenieux – 25mm – f0.95 A beautiful lens, although I’ve always preferred wide angles lenses… But that’s personal. I find it a bit chirurgical… But the fast aperture and the color rendition make it a beast in some shooting scenarios! Angenieux – 50mm – f1.5 – Type S5 Worths A LOT (of money) but imho, It doesn’t look terrific, but, once again – I’m not fond of telephoto lenses… And as is, It’s a very wonderful piece of glass! J That’s all for my C-mount contribution, But if ever you have the opportunity to grab one of them, at a fair price, don’t hesitate, they all have lots of personality, and as an object, they are just beautiful as hell, the aperture mechanism is astonishing (but don’t forget to declick them !) the iris blades seem to dances with each other when you stop the lens down… So much more attractive than a Canon 50mm 1.8… Nevertheless, I confess, I do have some modern lenses, and I do recommend 2 relatively cheap Sigmas (you can grab them for less than 100 dollars on the Bay…) The 28mm f1.8 and the 20-40mm f2.8… I own both of these (manual aperture models) and I DO recommend them, combined with a Chinese copy of the Speedbooster, It makes a pretty efficient combo, very polyvalent, you can easily mod them with a custom focus ring (with a 0.8 gear) and here you go, with your BMPCC Rig, you’re going to rock hard on small projects. A bit further than the original subject, here are a screenshot made with the Hypergonar Hifi x2 from Henri Chrétien, father of the Cinemascope !(That's me on the picture ! :)) "Hey all !" I’ve been following Anamorphic indie threads for like 2 years, without having enough funds to join the party, the Hifi 2 makes some really cool stuff, It’s pretty fun to use too.. But only once in your life time, It’s really too heavy, even when used with an “already heavy†rig (such as Alexa XT + Master Prime)… That’s why, I’m really after some small anamorphic adapters (such as the century one, the optex one or … my choice of heart… the Yashica one ! I believe I’m looking for this last one so much, since I’ve won an auction on Ebay, and finally, for god sake, It appeared that someone made an higher bid than mine, after the ending time… Sometimes I really can’t stand Ebay…) Anyway, If ever you’re planning to sell some small anamorphic adapters that suits my needs, don’t hesitate to send me a PM ! J Well, have a pleasant day, and see you soon. Antoine from France !
