  1. Looked pretty good to me. Anything I didn't like was very easy to iron out in Resolve.

  2. Earlier in anamorphic forum I asked advice for export options for my first anamorphic material shot with GH4. So here is the result from my shooting: After encoding to Vimeo, material looks a bit darker. Don't know why. Exported master file isn't as dark. Maybe it is because the h.264 encoding? Please comment and share if you like, thanks! :)

  3. Don't forget the ready to shoot 4K pricing...   A7S = $4500 GH4 = $1699

  4. Hey Chris, I'd recommend doing a ton of camera test. Personally, I love the ML raw anamorphic workflow. It reminds me a lot of what it was like to shoot on film. It's really a disciplined flow and a scary one at the some time, cause you really don't know if you got the shot till the footage is "processed". I haven't shot ML on the MK2, but with the MK3 I've had some really fun times. I've been using the komputerbay 64gb cards with great results. I get about 12 min of footage while shooting at the highest possible resolution. My post workflow is: convert to DNG's with RAW magic, quick color pass in Davinci, edit in CC Premiere then final color grade and final render out of davinci. Sometimes, after my first color pass I export the clips from davinci as profess and edit as proxy files then relink in davinci for the picture locked final color grade. It's kind of a clunky work flow, there's a ton of other and more efficient ways I'm sure but I like this method.

  5. Chris, I've written a lot about this process, for my graduation work. Unfortunately for you, it is in portuguese, but google translator might work well. ML hasn't changed drastically since I wrote about it (six months back), and I believe things are easier nowadays. The link is here, and pages from 86 to 97 should help you, regarding configuration and post-processing workflow (using rawanizer, premiere and after effects). I haven't used raw recording in a while, but the MAIN issue for me was stability. Sometimes the camera freezes, and you have to reboot it, or take off the card, or take off the battery, or both. And you should not be alarmed. Keep an eye if recording is continuous, and set it to stop if it drops any frames. Also, you might want at least one extra card, since 32gb goes really fast, and emptying it takes a little while.

  6. You just came to a forum posting about technical specs and complained about people caring about technical specs. We don't need another obligatory "it's not the tool that matters, it's the artist" post.

  7. Interesting points in the article about the D600. Can't beat a D600 for dynamic range at that price point (up there with the best at any price point). Now if Nikon would only modernize the video on the D600 series... I'll have to have a look at the Nikon 14mm F2.8 lens. I don't see it on their website, though. Michael

  8. I'm pretty sure that you are absolutely completely totally wrong about this. :P

  9. Film is better for stills. ;) Simply beautiful. Soft but detailed, lovely colors, and very long highlights.

  10. It's funny how some people they're trying to reduce A7s qualities in favor of GH4... It feels urgent to prove GH4 is finally up there with the big boys... Right now 1080p is the reality and in 1080p world GH4 is nothing really special. Even a seriously compromised camera like 5DmkIII from 2+ years ago still holds its own against GH4. As for GH4's low light capability it's still stuck in 800 iso from back in the day... However, I really believe that GH4 is a great camera but a bit overhyped. On the other hand A7s is not out yet so we can only speculate. Enough is enough with biased conclusions, it is just a matter of time before we know what is all about. Be patient 4K is not there yet and by the time it will be there will be much better cameras than GH4, A7s etc.

As I've decided on the 5d mk3 for shooting Raw does anyone here have any experience with the Canon 85mm 1.2 II USM? From what I can see this is a DOF monster, creamy and good. Overkill? Whats the cheaper alternative? The 1.8 scores well and it's much cheaper. Thanks.

  12. a7s is APSC or Fullframe, you can choose in camera, its I think one of the most exciting features, hopefully quality will be equal in both modes at least in 1080p

  13. I bought a GX7 with 20mm lens for £600 and thanks to it, I decided not to sell my Kowa 8Z. With focus peaking and smaller body form, compared to D7100, the whole setup is now way usable than I'd ever asked for.
