  1. I wanted to share a test video I shot with my new GH4 out at night on the streets of NYC. It was shot on the 60fps VFR mode with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 for Nikon + Metabones speed booster. I've heard lots of people saying this camera is awful for low-light shooting, but so far i'm pretty happy with it.

  2. Along with Philip Bloom and James Miller I have been testing a beta of the first Micro Four Thirds mount Smart EF adapter with Speed Booster from Metabones. Now the final version is available and it will start shipping end of June for $659 at the Metabones site. This version to be released imminently is designed ONLY to fit the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. This has the lovely 0.58x glass which turns the 3x crop Blackmagic sensor into a much nicer 1.74x crop, approaching the Super 35mm standard size for cinema. James has shot some rather lovely footage with it. Do check that out at Philip's evil rival site to mine :) Read the full article here

  4. Seems like this is case as per Matthew Allard's review on Newshooter. This is a real deal breaker for me and one of the MANY reasons why I'm going to keep my GH4. I shoot mostly doc stuff with lots of long interviews and live events. Also the dynamic range doesn't look that impressive at all. The 8 bit footage out of cam looks very DSLRish and not much better than a 5D(granted this will probably change a bit with 4k and 4:2:2). I wasn't that impressed with the Den Lennie footage either and this review just confirms it. The 10-bit image out of the GH4 looks like it's going to kick the crap out of most images from this camera. It might be a little too early to make this judgement without seeing more 4k footage of both cameras, but right now the GH4 footy looks better straight out of camera and so far @ 4k downscaled into 1080 on a recorder(yes I think the TEST clip of the little girls looks better than the Den Lennie stuff). Don't get me wrong, the low light is nice, but personally I don't want to see everything when it's dark. Kinda defeats the purpose of light and dark to me.

  5. Great tip nahua. And simple practical way to see it by eye. Have to perform that tip with my adapter and taking lens sometime. It's shot with Panasonic GH4 with Iscomorphot 8 1.5x adapter + Helios 40-2 and SLR Magic 35 1.4T lenses. Dreamy look was something that I fast after when making this video. Actually I prefer the dreamy and soft image look really much. It's quite personal thing, I think. Even the GH3 image with sharp panasonic lenses was something that I didn't like. Too sharp for my eyes, had to blur in post :) And GH4 with 4K is stepping again in new dimension with sharpness. Iscomorphot should allow focus racking and only focus from the adapter. Although I noticed when I was shooting this video that focusing on both taking&adapter did help to focus more closer. But thanks again Matthias for clearing things out. I am going towards conclusion here that... Just judge yourself what aspect you prefer and don't think too technically these things. As always should go. Don't think too much technics but the content and final output :)
