4K when edited in 1080 has so many uses I don't think I could go back. Here's an example of a video I did last week. Shot and edited in one day. No color correction, to be viewed at the wedding. There are many shots where I cropped into a 4k image and it gave me a two camera shoot look without doing a darn thing. The chase around the tree scene for example here.
Blackmagic firmware Version 1.8 is set to be released for all cameras simultaneously. The good news is that the work to create a unified firmware seems to be done. This was the work which for so long was getting in the way of Blackmagic adding new features to their cameras (like histograms). From now on we could be seeing some more regular and more exciting updates.
Straight off the bat with 1.8 there's a lot of new additions like 4K raw on the Production Camera and a new user interface for all cameras. Read the full article here
Aren't those Cinelike- profiles "loggy" already? This roumor sounds to me like they're going to introduce another log profile. If you shoot log, you NEED a colourist ) There are plenty of GH4 vids at Vimeo shot Cinelike- and shouting - i don't know what to do with the colours! )
between steps 3 and 4, change the project setting to 32bpc, instead of 8 (which is default in AE). It will change the way AE applies any further color correction (like Levels, Curves, or whatever). Ctrl + Alt + Shift + K, or go in the "File" menu, or just click on the 8bpc on the bottom of the Project tab. :)
Just wanted to chime in: still using my GH2. Was itching to upgrade, but I like what I'm getting out of the GH2 + Driftwood Quantum X and I know I'm only touching the surface of what it can do. Inspired by the Kendy Ty material, I've decided to just shoot everything using one lens (25mm Voigtlander) as a challenge to myself and I think it's working great. I did find a situation where I wish I had a wider lens last week on a shoot, but I made it work via a little contortionism. :)
I'd love a BMPCC and I'd certainly use one if given one, but my money right now would be better spent on a better video editing rig since my current laptop continues to overheat when doing anything intensive.
