54 mentions of video vs 32 of photos in Nikon D810 press release
earnesync reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Along with such disappointing video quality on both of Nikon's flagship models the D4S and D810, it's suggested by some that Nikon do not care about video on DSLRs because it is a small market. They make stills cameras! Video is a tiny niche. And so it goes, on and on (mainly from people on photography forums and not actual working pros)... So I was very much taken aback to see 34 mentions of "video", 14 mentions of "cinema" and 10 mentions of "broadcast" in their official press release for the D810. That compares to only 18 mentions of "photographer", 4 mentions of "photography" and zero mention of the word "still" or "stills" in the entire release. Read the full article here1 point -

Hi, I live in the UK where we don't see much sun :) so my questions is do I still need one if not shooting in bright sun light all the the time. Also my brightest lens currently is the Panasonic 12-35 2.8 so again would I need one with shutter at 1/50. Lastly is their ever a need to use a variable ND indoors or is it strictly for bight sunlight? All words of wisdom greatly appreciated. G.1 point

"Solidarity" short film (Canon 550D)
Axel reacted to silverstate for a topic
Hey guys, I'm a newbie but I promise this won't be my first and only post. I am an avid member of indietalk and figured I'd join the forum here to experience this side of the DSLR forum world. I shot this entirely on a 550D with a Tamron 10-22mm f/3.5 lens and a 40mm f/2.8 lens. This is my first production (written, directed, shot and edited), so I'd love some feedback about the image quality and story (and anything else that might be relevant). So without further adieu, here is: Solidarity vimeo.com/959302001 point -
Shot this yesterday as a means to test out a camera truck I'm building. GH4 nestled in an Movi M5 gimbal, rigged to the truck.1 point

Magic Lantern Raw Video for Canon DSLRs
rtwomey reacted to QuickHitRecord for a topic
The new RawMagic automatically merges all spanned .R00 files and incorporates vertical stripe correction as it churns out CinemaDNG files, which are automatically linked to their corresponding WAV audio files when opened in Resolve. And now with Resolve 11, you can do your entire edit with your raw CinemaDNGs and then go directly to grading, no proxies necessary. Convert files, then edit, then grade -- this is about five fewer steps than it was a few months ago!1 point -

Beware, the front optic is probably glued in with optical cement.1 point -
Dyaliscope Junior 16 - Focusing is stiff, need some insight

A world of pain. If you are unsure, I'd say maybe leave it alone...resell it with a clear description of the focus stiffness for a buyer to allow an informed choice on repairing it or not. If this does not interest you, and you fancy attempting a repair yourself -I'd say the best shot to try first is to carefully go in from the front, using a proper tool (spanner wrench to unscrew front retainer ring). This will allow removal of the front optic and allow access to the innards. By unwinding the helicoid you may be able to get access to the movement and thin the old grease with a TINY amount of lighter fluid and swab away some of the old grease with Q-tip/ cotton bud. Then some fresh helicoid grease added. The front optic will have to be orientated back again once you are done, which if you have not done before can be very time consuming and risky - as the edges of the optic will chip very easily. Basically I would not recommend trying anything if you are unsure, it sounds like a full disassembly/ clean and re-lube would be needed to sort out the issue properly, by someone who knows their onions.1 point -
In a way they lease twenty year old software, worked up adobe by adobe. An evolutionary process, if you like to be nice. I think they are afraid to be too innovative, considering themselves the 'industry standard', bearing in mind the ill-fated release of FCP X. It was a luxurious suite once, though smelling a bit like curd soap (I always want to say 'After Shave'), now it's a shiny modern cloud ...1 point

I have just purchased the sigma Nikon mount 18-35mm for my GH4. I was going to wait for the possible GH4 speedbooster as I have a m43/Nikon g cheap adapter. After trying the lens with my current adapter it seems to rattle around a bit on the adaptor so I'm now not sure if its worth waiting for the possible GH4 speedbooster or going for a different one (m4/3 one I guess)? Does anyone have any info on when / if the metabones GH4 mount is still happening or just a rumor?1 point

Okay, now thats just funny. I guess the proof will be in the pudding once footage starts to hit the web. But I think we all share your suspicions, it'll probably still have moire among other issues.1 point -
I guess GH4 with a speedbooster, because you have so much resolution to play with you won't miss the 4:3 ratio you can get in ML.1 point

Shame about the audio. If it had the jacks I would buy one. I'm not really that happy with my A7. Great article again. Thanks.1 point
