  1. I'm personally thrilled at what's happening in the consumer level marketplace with imaging. Many of us have been waiting for this to happen for about 20 years and it's more than arrived. I've paid more for handle grips on old video cam-corders than I would for an entire camera body these days.

  2. Ungraded video frame from a6000 today: Light grade: Medium grade: Guy who graded these in 3 minutes is here: http://www.mkgraphy.net Lens is a Samyang 85mm T1.5. Very happy with the result- looks like a decent still image :)

  3. The GM1 is a mini GH3 with some rather interesting new technology under the hood (a sensor that does a full pixel 4.5K readout in silent shutter mode) for just $749 (with 12-32mm lens) - but could the unthinkable be true and it actually shoots better video than the GH3? 4. The million dollar question... I'm a GH2/GH4 user and contemplating getting this lens. I already have the 12-35 but feel like I really need something in that 85mm equivilent range. The DOF and low light capability of this lens is a huge plus, but the cost is not! I do a Iot of interviews and I think this lens will give the interviews a look the 12-35 just cant match (as much as I love that lens). I know there are other options out there like the 45mm f1.8 (but no IS), and the 75mm f1.8 (too long). Anyone had any experience with this lens?

  5. It has already been used commercially by people I know. So you're wrong Leica50.

  7. I've now owned this camera for a whopping 24 hours. Here's the first video I shot, which was to stress the codec, see how well slow-mo performed and to see how well AWB tracked. This was shot with the Zeiss FE 24-70. Other notes are on the video post. I would like an improved RS, but it wasn't an issue in this clip.

  10. Color science (no greenish-yellow tint and strange color response in different lighting conditions (looks like a 3D color map kind of flaw)). Rolling shutter. Still shots with autofocus and Canon lenses. We have 6 cameras for 6 different uses: 1. FS700 for slow motion or when pro audio is needed in-camera. 2. 5D3 for stills (and/or RAW video) 3. GH4 for highest quality video (4K and 1080p) in good lighting conditions 4. A7S for low light and/or portable shallow DOF with compressed video (otherwise 5D3 RAW is far better) 5. GoPro for POV and underwater 6. iPhone 5S for pickup shots and getting a shot 'cause that's the camera we have on hand at the time Some day all these features will be in a cell phone, watch, or glasses.

  11. Too Funny! You should rename this blog the Canon 1DC sucks. Yet, you compare every camera you review to it. And, in my opinion, the best looking footage you have shot has been with it. Here's my best effort with the 1DC : I love this camera!

  13. Sony I LOVE YOU !!!! http://www.intimepop.com/UPLOADSDONTDELETE/2014/midlake1-hd.mp4 sony a6000 + sony 16-50mm portrait -3 -1 +1 DRO off 1/50 Auto ISO <3200 exposure Locked , graded with mlooks in FCPX By the way if you love good music come to my blog intimepop.com Recording at this show, it was pretty hot inside mind you, the sensor after 2 songs overheated and shut down the a6000. I was shooting manual Focus, keeping my hand all the time on the 16-50 mm to focus, no harm except that the sony cam seems to use the LENS BODY as a cooler...to be confirmed but setting on AF , and avoiding touching the lens, i was able to finish the show. Don't know if it was The bionz or the sensor which overheated, but this baby is leaving on edge (size, power, processor...)

  14. What I like is that the A7S still has almost 10 stops at ISO 6400 and is maybe the only camera with at least 10 stops at ISO 3200 in Dxo's data base. It is starting to look to me that while maybe designed as a hybrid with a video focus, it is getting rave reviews for stills but less than that for video. It is/will seemingly take a hit from many people because it may not do 15+ stops of DR except under very specific circumstances (maybe) but ignoring that it will still have a higher DR than any camera near its price at ISO 1600 and up. For live music, I am seriously considering replacing my A7 with an A7S for stills and the video will be better as well and good enough for me (since it will mostly be covers that I can't show anyway).

  15. Hey everyone, I just got a brand new Sigma 18-35 1.8 Nikon mount and noticed that when I rotate the focus ring, I get 3 "stops" with audible clicks. It's not a smooth and quiet rotation of the focus. So naturally my question is does anybody else have it, and if that's the case, why nobody talked about this in their reviews? I feel this is not working well for run and gun situations when the audio mike is mounted on the camera. Very disappointing! I called Sigma tech support and they told me this was very much normal. It seems Sigma focus rings click... Do you have the same experience with yours?

    GH4 to get Log

So true. Cinelike D is a mess. Orange/Magenta color cast with ugly compressed skintones which make people look like zombies... :( Would like to see something like Slog2 or BMCC Log on this otherwise nice camera. ;)

  17. Very recent development Seems to be limited between 1/10 and 15" exposures at the moment. Shutterless timelapses would probably save a ton of battery space. Pretty interesting development!
