  1. Sorry Inazuma, I should have formatted what I wrote "...which is completely ungraded and boring" Like I said, I couldn't find any samples, so I figured I'd put something up. I wish I could have shot some people. If I did, at a low f-shop, you would have seen shallow DOF that would would show the huge benefit over a gopro, in separating subject from background. The a7S is full-frame, and has larger pixels. The RED has monster processing chips, batteries and I assume sensor heatsinks. So let me clarify what I was saying, I don't see consumer APS-C sensors getting much better at video. The power/heat that would be generated in properly binning all the pixels is too great. Sensors are only part of the equation. You're right, I should have clarified.

  2. Rungunshoot

    5D MKII lowlight

The colors look natural, not posterized, faded, or magenta-hued. The whole spectrum is rather faithfully represented, and the highlights blow out in a pleasing way. Most of the A7S footage I've seen has a brittle, desaturated look with digital-looking highlights, odd color casts, and often a tint toward magenta.

  3. I've been going through an architectural photography phase and bought a Sony 10-18mm for the a6000. It will also work, with some cropping, on the a7. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time. I shot some test footage, which is completely ungraded and boring, but if you're interested in the field of view of the 10-18 on the a6000 then it should give you an idea. Photographically, the 10-18 on the a6000 is a monster wide-angle solution. Great sharpness, contrast and color. I did a little comparison with the GM1. The GM1 continues to amaze me with it's clean low-ISO footage. The a6000 is superb camera, but I don't think they'll ever get APS-C sensor as sharp as MFT in 1080. I think it impossible to completely fix the aliasing/moire issue with having pixels more spread out on the sensor, vs the MFT. What Sony seems to have improved is the chromatic aberrations, which is certainly the most annoying aspect of that problem. In short, not sure 1080 will get much better from APS-C camera. However, I can get a shallower DOF with the a6000 that I can't get with the GM1. It's a tradeoff. I have a Sony 35mm 2.8 which I hope to do some test footage with soon.

  4. Having it sitting for a long time, I said to finally give it a try, as until now it was impossible to get any info about it, or even so to find a video made with this rare beast. Quick test of the Moller Anamorphot 30/2x, on an Oly E-M1. I have to admit that wasn't that easy to work with it, it's big like an Iscorama, not easy to use just an anamorphic clamp and I always prefer smaller anamorphics to play with, so I don't have the proper rig solution for this Moller. But the image quality that comes out of it, puts it (at least) beside Iscorama. Any comment is welcome, this lens is a miracle:

  5. Philip Bloom's page brought me here. Saw the advert in his review and scooped up a copy without hesitation. Worth every penny. Thanks kindly

  7. Hi there, I understand that I can achieve the same result just using fast cc (adjusting the whites/blacks etc), I just preferred doing it in 2 steps with slog (luma step for the major, fast cc for the minor tweaks) I actually found I got a better image that way, but I think it might of just been a placebo effect. This was more for the crowd that was just sticking a LUT on it and calling it a day. If you understand the concept behind this, then you can grade anything to your specific preference/look. What's most important to me, is that I can nearly get the quality of 5d mk3 raw with out the all of the converting. The a7s really does seem to have the dynamic range its marketed to have.

  9. Hmmm. Probably the best daylight A7s video I've seen in terms of colour, but it still didn't look great imo. Everything else about it was great, but the colour looks rather pastel/thin to me. Of course this could be a grading choice, but every daylight A7s video I've seen looks like this. I'm worried you just can't saturate the colours without them falling apart. Show me something as punchy as the GH4 or even 5DIII h264 and I'll happily eat my words. For me this is much more of an issue than rolling shutter ... This has been posted before but it gets the point across:
