  1. It already does 4K internal, it comes off the sensor as 4K and is debayered, all the hard work done and sent to HDMI rather than compressed and sent to the card. 4K compression is trivial. Mobile phones do it. I don't believe the overheating theory at all... The biggest heat management issue in the A7S comes from the sensor and that is already doing 4K even for 1080p. It's probably more work for the image processor to downsample the 4K output to 1080p than it is to compress the 4K and write it to the SD card. I think they are saving the feature for future models.   My message is clear to the manufacturers and always has been... Give us 100% of the capabilities of the hardware we pay for and don't disable stuff with a line of code.

  2. Oh I nearly forgot to tell you that the beautiful colour tone seems to be a result of using gold filter ND optical glass. I got mine here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110676899420?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 The 62mm size is a perfect match to the Rectilux 3FF and the gold filtration has in my opinion a pleasing effect on the imagery, even though the listing says there is no effect on colour balance - there is - but it is very nice.

  4. I was thinking Canon APS-C too actually because of the colours and the way edges are rendered quite harshly, eg 49 seconds in.

  5. Looks like a great film. I think the CGI issue can be solved with a tiny bit of edge blur and perhaps a tiny bit of noise. This looks like Canon APS-C or 5D MkII to me. Possibly GH3 but not quite sharp enough IMO. I'd go for 7D (non-RAW)

  7. Ok John, I saw it. Looks amazing. You know I have also the moller 32x. I wanted to check sharpness with your single focus system. My reference is my own footage in 3.55 aspect ratio. Your rectilux perform fantastic. If I were in England I would like to try it for sure.... I know you are busy...but I would like to see some more footage in a tripod with rack focus , maybe in some more "cinematic condition" and also would like to see bokeh...I'll be patience :-) I know your target is more standard 2.41 aspect ,but I'm sure there be more people also who will be fascinating with 3.55 single focus system. Best!

  8. BMCC? This looks great, by the way; both technically and and non-technically. Where did you go for the dunes? Sand and cameras, lots of fun...

    Lenses

Do I feel lucky these days? YES A few days ago I got a Mitakon Lens Turbo Canon EF mount cheep on eBay. Today - on eBay too - I got a Sigma DC 18-35mm F/1.8 Canon EF mount at a very favorable price. These combined with the kitlens from my Panasonic G6, my 28, 35, 50 and 135mm Yashica ML primes and a Samyang 85mm F/1.4 make me believe that I don´t need to acquire more lenses within the next few weeks :-) Now I only have to wait for the Lens Turbo and the Sigma to arrive.

  10. This is definitely one of the more intriguing trailers I've seen recently. Great job :) Only thing I'd say is some of the VFX is quite jarring. In particular the shots of the mountain (close and far) are too crisp. And no, no idea what camera :)

  11. Hi Andy It is not too dissimilar from the way the focus on a zoom works see here http://www.adaptall-2.org/articles/InsideZoomLens/InsideZoomLens.html
