  1. As much as I agree with all of your points, asking these questions is simply useless. You're questions are not really questions, but you are just trying to make the same point with every question: "Look how far behind you are when it comes to video & technical advances compared to your competitors". Don't you see it?" It is rhetorical. Of course they know. They don't care. And you don't need to ask, you can see it from their current line up and releases. They are focussing on the photo market and gave up to compete on video. The only question you should ask is: "Why?" To make more money for a couple of years and then stop the business? A principal? Thinking they will appeal more to photographers if they don't have good video modes? To protect their C-line? (and thus be stupid?) For the rest I would save my breath. You're not going to change them. But we as buyers will.

  2. You should hire Sacha Baron Coen to ask those questions to them :)

    Canon 7D Mark II

If Canon want to please video users they need to at least catch up with the competition.   Problem is every time I look at the specs of the competition, and apply it to Canon, it seems ridiculously like I am asking too much.   4K 100Mbit/s H.264 10bit HDMI output 120fps slow-mo mode 400fps with line-skipping like the Nikon V1 Full frame sensor and APS-C model No moire / aliasing Full pixel readout Canon LOG Mirrorless mount EVF 5 axis stablisation $2500   Because that's only what the competition are offering isn't it?   Ideally Canon should be better than the competition. I'm just asking them to be 'as good'.   It just shows how far behind they are on video now.   If the 1D C was $2500 but in a 5D Mark III-like body and with some concessions to video usability they would be on the right path.

  4. In 2010 when EOSHD started and the 5D Mark II was all the rage, if anyone had predicted that 4 years later we'd be shooting 4K through a Leica 25-400mm lens for $899 I'd have told them to put their tin hat back on and return to planet lala to play with the moon bunnies. Alas here we are in 2014 shooting 4K through a Leica 24-400mm lens for $899. Read the full article here

  5. John, I don't appreciate content from our private offline conversations being referenced here, and I feel the need to state that I am in no way affiliated with John's Rectilux. We were merely comparing exploratory notes. Respectfully, I suggest that the moderation of this forum be handled by a neutral party who has no commercial aspirations. Nick

    Anamorphic 1.5

fantastic design by the looks of it. interested to see how the long shroud might be removed/changed? for fitment to other anamorphics. Lovely large optic to accommodate the focus throw required for the 0.5m minimum focus (without vignette I imagine). front thread is spaced out from the optic to clearance and further reduced chance of vignette at full focus extension. looks like something designed very nicely from the ground up with a real bit of mechanical design rather than an ebay helicoid, a plumbing fitting and a pair of tiny off the shelf singlets. bet the price is reasonable too...

  7. In a way it is just the same as it has always been - you do a shoot and until you get the data off the card it is at risk of failure. Whether it takes up 1mb or 1gb it is still either backed up or it isn't.

    Small Eden

G6 is not exactly an insider tip, but almost. Forgotten silver. Everybody raves about 4k or raw now, but a simple little device like that, with decent colors and superb resolution - isn't that all we need?
