A good discussion in the video there. But which part do you think is 'compulsory' schooling for us here at EOSHD Matt? :) Is it the "4K is coming and it will steam roll over you so wake up" part, or is it the tired old part about 2K being "enough". Both arguments are presented in the clip.1 point -
bravo FM module. Test samples and price are both attractive. I have two cinelux 2x schneiders I grabbed very cheap this week. being able to focus these badboys is gonna be a dream.1 point

You light within the dynamic range of your medium. I think lots of people get lighting confused with exposure. They are related only by lux/lumens. Just because you can get the proper exposure doesn't mean your talent will look their best or the mood is right. This where the differentiation between documentary and creative filmmaking are most evident: Documentary captures what is there in an accurate manner to represent truth. Creative throws truth out the window to immerse in the fantasy. Do you think the film emulsion of Citizen Kane had fifteen stops? I don't know either ;), but they still consider it one it'd the best films of all time. Of course it will make it easier if a cam did ISO 500,000 with 15 stops smooth as glass, but until then we can use fill light and work within a useable 9-10 stops.1 point

We need tomorrow's ND filter technology today. They already have glass that when exposed to electric current will change its transparency... Just imagine they could somehow make a ND filter working in a similar way and could be put in front of a sensor and could be driven by the camera/user. :D1 point -

That's incorrect. The gaps between pixels vary. Thus one manufacturing technique or technology does not make the same pixel size as another. For example on the Blackmagic Production Camera with an 8MP APS-C sized sensor, the pixels are tiny due to large amounts of space on the front-side surface of the chip taken up by global shutter wiring. And subsequent refining of 24MP APS-C sensors from Sony, et al have produced larger pixels by reducing the gap between pixels and improving the design of the micro lenses which channel light into each pixel.1 point -

It's focus-by-wire, so no it is not repeatable off the barrel. The shutter speed dial does not include 1/50, but you can dial it in easily with other knobs. The camera actually doesn't use the entire 4/3 sensor at any given time like a GH4 in photo mode can. The sensor is set up with a multi-aspect mode, so depending on the aspect ratio a different chunk of the sensor is being used. Its 4k mode uses the same area as the GH4 - resulting in a 2.2x crop from full frame 35mm. But the lens isn't 12-37.5mm, it's 10.9-34mm. So the 4k crop is actually very close to 24-75mm equivalent. Rolling shutter is the same as the GH4. No Cinelike profiles at the moment, but picture styles have the same adjustments that they do on Panasonic's other m4/3 cameras. Haven't tested the sound yet. I'm expecting GX7 quality (great for built-in mic), but that's just a guess.1 point -
HD should be up soon but here it is. I'm using plano-convex lens mounted to the front element of my anamorphic. On the rails, I've mounted a plano-concave lens (pretty ghetto set up, but works enough for proof of concept). Moving the rail mounted lens further away gives me closer focus, in fact, pretty fucking close. Sharp as can be too. All I need to do now is figure out the power of the lenses, buy larger elements, and house them. Baby steps.1 point

Nice theory, unfortunately you're wrong and you really need to do some research. Anamorphic was designed to avoid cropping to achieve the wider aspect ratio.1 point -
H.264 supports 10Bit as well and yet we dont see it around. Just because its compatible with the Codec doesnt mean companies will actually use it. just saying. And some people seem to forget about the fact that H.265 is not much more efficient than H.264. But for this sentence to be true, you need to understand what efficiency means. its not only the final filesize, but also the computing power it takes to encode and decode the video. H.265 simply opens many doors of compressing files much more for the cost of much higher computing power. A camera like the NX1 wont have "that" computing power to take the real advantage of H.265. i personally would guess their 80mbit/s H.265 video to be around the same as the GH4's 100mbit/s H.264. You also need to understand that H.264 isnt all the same, even when using the same encoder. You can choose between different presets that differ in encoding speed and file size results. Cameras need at least the speed of doing the conversion in realtime, so when you put a faster processor in a new camera you can make the encoding of the video look better by using a slower preset. An H.264 camera from 8 years ago will be deliver a lot less quality at the same bitrate as a camera from today. people seem to forget this and just hype H.265. It will be pretty awesome but big computers are just getting the power it takes to edit H.265. for cameras it will take another year to actually benefit from it.1 point

There are some official Panasonic USA Videos on YT where this Guy Shows the timelapse funktion. So, yes it is in there, yay. "It lets You take 9999 pictures..." I think we will run out of batery after maybe 700 Images, with preview turned off - as the battery is good for 350 shots with lcd on.1 point

Can we let this go? What you're saying is all common knowledge. You are basically reinforcing my point, which is 'get 2K right before jumping to 4K'. Yes the GH4's 4K gives great 2K, but why not just give us great 2K straight out the camera? Why not put all that bitrate into colour and DR? Consumers don't need 4K! OK the A7S does some of that, but the codec is horribly thin - S-LOG on the A7S is as daft as Cinestyle. And I have a BMPCC. That's part of the reason I'm saying what I am. Why don't the big manufacturers focus on image quality like that? Because it doesn't fit with their overall marketing strategy.1 point -

hey nahua- i didn't bother to adjust levels of the bottom layer, but of course you could do that to match the black diffusion filter. also the blur is exaggerated, you'd probably want to drop the gain a little to make the glows less opaque. this is really more of a glow effect than a blur when you build it manually.1 point
