  1. I think we all know what the deal is. You have said it before, so theres no confusion: Video sucess on dslrs was an accidental success for canon. A nice suprise at the extra interest and sales. So they created the spin off cinima eos lin to carry the pro video forward and charge as much as the market will pay for it. The dslrs then just continue to be 100% stills orientated. The 7d mk1 and mk2 are mainly for sport protographers. Where the crop is an advantage (as long as the sensor is higher resolution) and high frame rate (with good autofocus) is of prime importance. The video is just an added extra. Its just there if they happen to need it. But kept at consumer level quality, with all video improvments like better autofucus squarely in the consumer arena.

  3. Hello everyone, I have spoken to anamorphic shop guys regarding a discount on a FM lens for this community, they have agreed. We are at an early stage yet, but they are inclined to support us later on. How many of you will be interested to buy the FM lens with some discount? Please do not ask how much discount, because as I said it before we are at an early stage of agreements, I will let you know when thing will be decided for sure. I just want make clear one thing though: I have no relation to these guys, I am doing this for everyone's benefit, and I will be treated as everyone on this forum. Please let me know. The more we are, the better the discount will be. Thank you https://scontent-a-mxp.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/10704188_825057607514743_9087386608722498073_n.jpg?oh=defd3101fd28907fe0a7077783a773a8&oe=54BD8013

    My first BMPCC film ...

I received my BM Pocket last week (after buying it in the summer sale and waiting aaaagggges for it). Anyway, I haven't had much time to play with it so this is my first attempt (RAW and ProRes 422 mix): Graded in FCPX (Resolve to convert the RAW) I love the camera already. The image is just so rich and full and happy to be pushed around. The moire bothers me a fair bit, but it's not a deal breaker.

  5. Hey guys, Just a head's up the new Nikon D750 is superior to the D810 for video. I saw proof of this in person. Sorry I cannot show you the footage. It wasn't mine and was used on an adult vid. Both cams were on the set. (D810 still better for stills - super large). On the video side, the D750 has zero moire/aliasing to speak of (you will find it on D810) and it has a flip lcd screen. It's just as sharp as the D810 (GH3 quality in 1080p but MUCH MUCH better colors!) and is 24 meg Full Frame. The lcd is sharp as hell. It has zebras, dedicated movie buttons and is lighter than D810. No peaking unfortunately but the zoom in for focus is real nice. Best of all is the low light. It's at least a stop and half over the D810. Compared them side by side. I saw some footage where 12,800 ISO looked good (great with neat video) and 6400 ISO looked damn near perfect. That's shocking for a Nikon dslr video. So you get one of the best still cameras in the world with perfect 1080p. (And yes it does 60 at 1080 and that looks fantastic as well. Could see no visible banding. In my opinion the D750 is just as pleasing as 5D raw but without the time involved. If you shoot stills and want high quality video it's something you should consider. If you only shoot stills go with the D810. For video DSLR it's a no brainer with native Nikor lenses. For mirrorless I would go A7s but if I'm 50% stills and don't need 4K, than I'm going DSLR Nikon. These dudes have upped their game. Big time. Just one man's opinion. Cheers

  7. Is the Ex. TELE CONV. function available on the LX100 ? It would give an option of a decent telephoto focal length, and based on this function with the GH2 and G6, the loss of resolution and increased noise wouldn't be too bad, especially with the added resolution of the 4K image.

  8. Sigma's new strategy (started in 2012), aiming at high end quality for competitive prices, has worked out really well. According to Sigma the market for interchangeable lenses shrunk by something like 23% last year but Sigma managed to sell 15% more.

  9. Abnormal behaviour of me or of my lens? Or both :) I have found now so many people with this same issue that maybe it is time now to contact Panasonic. Thanks for link.

  10. What a couple of rubes! (The Canon reps, I mean.) That was fucking pathetic! Quote: "The application of the technology is still good, it’s still simple, but the specification is looking ‘lesser’ compared to the competition at the same price. John: No! I don’t agree with that." Grade A bullshit right there. A7S, GH4, Blackmagic all destroy the Canon offerings for video. I think this interview says a great deal about what Canon thinks of the DSLR video user. Thank you Andrew, great job!

  11. About EOSHD opinion: I'm also 34 and I prefer Optical Viewfinder much more for photo. I don't understand why you always stress talk about EVF/LCD, it doesn't matter for video. DSLR can have good video too, as Nikon D810, only flip LCD is a must for video. Thank you for your interview, it was interesting! Did you see DPreview interview? http://***URL removed***/articles/7079726133/photokina-2014-canon-interview-mirrorless-in-the-very-near-future DPreview: One thing we know from our own testing is that Canon DSLR sensors can’t quite compete with some modern sensors from Sony in terms of dynamic range. How important to you is developing sensor technology? Canon: We are very focused on getting the best image quality. I’m not sure what measurements you’re looking at but when it comes to dynamic range for example we consider image quality as a whole, from low to high ISO sensitivities and on balance we consider our sensors to be the best. My ideal camera is one that can take a picture in any environment from complete darkness to the brightest sunshine. It looks like Canon is satisfied with their product completely!

  12. Maybe in 6 months to a year. Development on ML depends on the programmers actually owning the cameras and can be quite slow because of that. By the time it likely gets a decent ML upgrade, the 7Dii will be even more woefully behind the competition.

  13. Utterly pathetic stance by Canon. They really don't care about dslr video shooters. Regarding the 7D mark 2...I am interested to see what Magic Lantern people are able to get out of it. 60fps magic lantern raw would be of interest to me. Other than that...I have no reason to look at any dlsr cameras from Canon anymore for video applications.

  14. For those who did not see it, an incredible production from Nikon Canada. Much much better than its USA counterpart. It is more static and much more in focus than the Family video above. The sharpness, details and DR looks very good. More so that in the BTS video they say they used only the internal codec.

  16. It's unfortunate that Canon isn't upgrading their DSLR video quality to be competitive. Lots of us have many Canon lenses and being able to shoot very high quality stills as well as video with a single camera is very, very useful. If the 5D3 successor had an XAVC 422 10-bit class codec with log encoding and at least 5D3 RAW-level resolution, it would rock. Between the A7S and GH4, 5D3 RAW produces superior color and video quality (except extreme low light and of course no 4K). Good for Nikon and the D810- folks with Nikon lenses can now have an excellent stills camera with autofocus that shoots nice video. Regarding the post down sampling-low pass filter comment to remove moire/aliasing: if that were possible we'd have plugins which remove aliasing in our NLEs. Mathematically, it's necessary to perform low-pass filtering before downsampling to prevent aliasing during downsampling. The only way I'm aware to remove aliasing/moire in post effectively is via super-resolution algorithms, which haven't been commercially available (research stage or only in limited hardware/embedded systems).

  17. Andrew Very interesting article...just one point you said "Is this the perfect monitor to watch your Gh4 footage on?" and then you never said anything further about that, apart from a little bit about the A7s. What does the A7s footage look like? What does the GH4 footage look like? Just in your opinion ..based on viewing on that 4K monitor. You said its very revealing and you may have to re review some cameras...but not much more about that? A positive and negative review of the current crop of 4K DSLR's on a 4K monitor would be great...avoiding the stuff we already know...like ISO performance...RS etc... just the detail, colors etc of those 4K cams.....how they hold up, and a comparison of current 1080p DSLR's on that monitor as compared to the A7s and GH4 would be very interesting as well. There are no other articles about this as far as I know, and I am sure a lot of us would be very interested in the results. Thanks for the article... Cheers :)

  19.   Given the sensor size and megapixel count are not exactly like the A7S, the ISO 3200 sample is ok and on par with a Red Epic.   The noise reduction setting in-camera is crazy high which makes it hard to judge sharpness from these hastily shot JPEGs before they glued the card door up to stop exactly the kind of post you just made slamming the camera based on a bad test!!   The guy who shot these didn't even get the model's head in focus and you are claiming her hair looks soft... no wonder.

  20. The problem with the first two (indoor) videos is that you have underexposed by quite a lot. Noise always comes from shadows afterall. It is best to expose for highlights and then underexpose it in post if that's the look you're going for.
