To be fair, if you read the thread: What is being discussed is a checking of interest in the focus module to push prices down, not a reselling by comurit. And so far it's at the early stage for interest-checking, there has not even been a discussion yet for how a possible discount would be given. I can agree on the part that we really need more information about Anamorphic shop before ordering anything from them. No website so far, only a Facebook page. I'd rather know who's behind it all before ordering anything from them, discount code or not. I must agree on what came up in the earlier thread: You as a moderator are biased - you are using the rules for selling on the forum, when the discussion is on the topic of interest-checking and discount - something that could be a nice thing for every user of the anamorphic forum. (Not too different from when Andrew got early-buyers discounts on the SLR Magic for the joy of the forum users). I see these kind of community efforts as something that adds to this community, not subtracts. Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that you have anamorphic business yourself that you want to protect? I'm a longtime reader of this forum and I'd want unbiased moderation on this forum. Threatening to purge a thread sounds like you do it for your own good, to be honest. I have a hard time seeing it any other way, however much I'd like to.5 points

@JohnBarlow I think you seriously need to rethink your stance on these forums. If you are just here to push your product and then censor other products that you think are "competing" with yours, then you are mistaken. You should step down as moderator if you are going to be biased about this.4 points

Really more about light types and their characteristics. Lots of good info in the other talks too. Introduction to lighting:2 points

I think we as forum users should be able to discuss and talk about whatever mysterious company/person we want. I don't see the connection between unlocking the topic and actually supporting said company. Not relevant at all.2 points

FM lens discount
valid and one other reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
I'm afraid I agree with my readers on this John. What seems to be going on here isn't really fair. The selling "rules" are not a set of laws to be enforced by mods, they're meant as a general guideline to staying safe and as a disclaimer. Also your bad relationship with some of the other mods isn't sustainable. I'm afraid from now on you will no longer have moderator rights on the forum John. Sorry. I am sure you can appreciate my position here. I feel you are abusing your power as a moderator to sell your stuff and censor competitors and this is just not acceptable. Way too many complaints for you to stay as a mod.2 points -
I thought I'd start a topic for talk specifically relating to use of these once hopeless oversized lumps of very high performance glass. Now the upcoming FM unit pricing is announced (which appears to have been designed specifically for use with this type of anamorphic) maybe discussion can be had regarding each of the variants of the gold and red projector anamorphics.. so lets talk:- thoughts and ideas lens tests queries flaring character sharpness as well as taking lens paring relating to the 'look' and compatibility on certain size sensors. I've been testing a cinelux this evening on my friday night off so will share some stuff shortly.1 point

My first BMPCC footage
nvldk gave a reaction for a topic
I received my BM Pocket last week (after buying it in the summer sale and waiting aaaagggges for it). Anyway, I haven't had much time to play with it so this is my first attempt (RAW and ProRes 422 mix): Graded in FCPX (Resolve to convert the RAW) I love the camera already. The image is just so rich and full and happy to be pushed around. The moire bothers me a fair bit, but it's not a deal breaker.1 point -
How safe is it to give a potential distributor a copy of your film?
Jonesy Jones reacted to dafreaking for a topic
Watermark. Watermark Watermark. Occasionally have a watermark run across the screen in an establishing shot or something that doesn't have actors. See at the end of the day, if someone want to leak it there is nothing you can do. So the watermark at least helps you identify who did it. On a film I worked, we would invite all these guys to our office and show them a copy. Sadly, the film was so bad no one bought it. So as a filmmaker it's also a catch 22 situation.1 point -
They clearly do: In the intro it says: "Lens Used :- Panasonic GX Vario 12-35mm 2.8 (on both cameras)"1 point

FM lens discount

@Cosimo Murgolo I am looking at this thread in the light of the Forum rules on Selling. It would appear that you are setting yourself up as an agent for these goods, and I feel obliged to remind you about the Forum rules on Selling detailed below: PROVE THEY HAVE THE GOODS - Request to see photos of the items being sold with their EOSHD username displayed alongside it, preferably in handwriting on piece of paper so it cannot be faked. COMMUNICATE - Check their forum posting history, see if they are new. If they have a genuine history of posts and contributions to the forum, the seller is more likely to be genuine. - If possible speak with the seller by telephone - Until a deal has been closed, converse with the seller openly on the forum ASK FOR ID - Get a real name, address and ID - If they refuse full details on privacy grounds, ask to continue the deal and all private comms via eBay instead of the forum USE SAFE PAYMENT METHOD - DO NOT use Western Union or wire transfers - PayPal is preferable over bank transfers - Ask if they accept cash on collection SELLERS - Sellers should provide a price in the main topic - Sellers should provide a link to their feedback on eBay and be contactable via their eBay account - Topics that don't meet these rules may be at risk of being deleted DISCLAIMER EOSHD is not responsible for buying and selling on the forums, deal at your own risk and buyer beware In addition to these rules I will also remind you about international regulations governing Rules of origin for imported and exported goods: https://www.gov.uk/rules-of-origin other countrys have equivalent legislation, designed to prevent under the counter trading in goods. I dont make the rules here, Andrew Reid does. If you feel that you are a special case, then you should seek relaxation of the rules from Andrew Reid personally and display any concession granted here. Else you run the risk of having this thread purged.1 point -
Nikon D810 video quality leapfrogs Canon 5D Mark III
mtheory reacted to Rob Bannister for a topic
Andrew Im glad you are looking into nikons again. I do love them and used the D810 recently so I can agree it does feel like a much better version of the D800 camera. The video, stills and the Group focus points all are really great. I wish the value of my D800 wasnt so low now or Id sell and upgrade. As for nikon hackers I do hope they get some great advances soon. The Nikon bodies have the ability to write a lot of data to cards and buffers very quickly. Especially as Ive been saying with the XQD cards they are unbelievably fast. I have kind of given up on the DSLR Video stuff but like having it around. Ive moved on to the Kinemini 4k but its a huge camera. Anyways again glad you are pushing these guys because they will be there own worst enemy with their current mentality on what we want as users.1 point -
From the very interview this thread was created to discuss: The 7dmk2 is a stills camera that happens to take video. It was designed primarly for still photography. It is not a video camera. It was not designed as a video camera. It is not intended to be used as a video camera. It is a stills camera that happens to include a video feature. Out of the 18 paragraphs in Canons press release for the 7dmk2, exactly two of them were dedicated to video. If you want video features, buy a video camera. Don't buy the wrong tool for the job then complain it doesn't do the job correctly.1 point

How safe is it to give a potential distributor a copy of your film?
Jonesy Jones reacted to JohnVid for a topic
You've got this far, what could possibly go wrong, if the Distro company is a known quantity, with some track record then it should be ok, but I have no idea what pitfalls await from the deals these companies make, hopefully they dont follow the same tricks they use to swindle Boy Bands out of fortunes & tie them into exclusivety. Remember it doesnt have to look or smell like a shark to be a shark :) Hey Xavier is your middle name derived from Plagarism? :huh:1 point -
All three were Cinelux WA, Canon 50mm 1.8, and a GH2. Very sharp, very crisp and defined flares. No longer own this and kind regret getting rid of it. Own a version 2 Hypergonar now, which in comparison has much less crisp but very long flares. I would say the Cinelux is more clinical and the Hypergonar more filmic and organic.1 point

Anamorphic 1.5
Cosimo murgolo reacted to dahlfors for a topic
I took these stills when I wanted to find out the performance of the Ultrastar. I was waiting for my preorder of the D800, so I had to shoot it on my APS-C Nikon D200. Mostly shot at f/5.6 to f/11 in APS-C to see how sharp the Ultrastar was. Most shots, probably all of these shots were with the Nikkor AI-S 105mm f/2.5. I've found that the Ultrastar performs nicely with that one, both in APS-C & full frame. For APS-C you can go as wide as 50mm f/1.4 on the Ultrastars, which is pretty wide. But I prefer using the Ultrastar with the AI-S 85mm f/2 or AI-S 105mm f/2.5 as taking lenses, be it on full frame or APS-C.1 point -

Compulsory viewing for EOSHD readers!

thanks for posting this, it's what i've been feeling/saying here since my first post. with digital pro-sumer cameras, i believe we need more usable dynamic range, not resolution. personally, 2k at 24p seems to work fine for me: if it isn't broke, why fix it? i think LDR 4k is really a ploy to sell more tv's.1 point -

Hardware hacks probably would be easy. That's a small sensor though: 5.75 × 4.28 mm. Even with lenses built for 16mm, 10.26 x 7.49 mm, you'd have some extensive cropping. And, Ooooooo, what about our precious shallow DOF? How can we shoot anything without shallow depth of field! No one these days is allowed to make movies unless the DOF and bokeh is incredible. I'm pretty sure one's DIY cinematographer's credentials are in danger of being revoked if an aperture is closed down beyond f4.1 point
