Thank You Panasonic! i have been a Canon user for so many years, Not Any More! i'm totaly diappointed with the lack of respect for their customers opinions and needs! they become so arrogant and ignor their loyal customers. I got my GH4 along with many lenses months ago and it's just great, please continue your excellent job. Love You Panasonic. .2 points

Probably most of the customers (like us) already have such anamorphics. If not, buy one now! Even if the cheap 2x anamorphics (like the Schneiders - they go for as low as €100) will double our triple in price, the total cost will be way lover than previous single focus options like the Iscorama.2 points

Hi all, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind looking at some of my work and giving me some constructive criticism. I've graduated from film on the gh2 to currently the gh4 and I've started my own local film business. Nothing massive just a hobby I enjoy so why not get paid to do it. Please take a look and let me know what you think. I'm always willing to try new things and learn from past mistakes. Thanks for your time http://m.youtube.com/channel/UCcn5e_l0y_ryAUJ5VXSXK3A1 point

a7s vs 5dmkIII raw in midday sun
andrgl reacted to Rungunshoot for a topic
5dmkIII raw (converted to LOG-C and then rec709): Sony a7s (cine 4 - color, saturation and contrast dialed down -1, then gamma lowered and shadows raised a bit in FCP X): My thoughts are that the a7s can give you some nice skin tones and balanced color if you don't try to do S-LOG 2. I consider midday sun to be a challenging environment for 8-bit cameras, as the color can easily become washed out and desaturated. I find that I need as much saturation from the camera as possible (without clipping) before processing. Then I lower the gamma a bit in post and lift the shadows in order to give it more of a filmic shadow response. What you can't do with the a7s in my experience is extreme shadow recovery like this backlit shot:1 point -
The other thing that these aspect ratios offer that I haven't heard much talk about is that you have a completely different set of reframing options for 1080p. I often produce video for portrait orientation, and the 1:1 gives the option of copping to 1080p in either orientation, with plenty of reframing room on top.1 point

All the mugs who jumped on the bandwagon a year or less before the bubble burst about 6 months ago have already sold up or are selling the lens they thought would turn their stuff 'cinematic' without them having to put any effort in and this has brought prices down drastically. I keep having to force myself to not grab one of the umpteen kowa 8z's or similar I see popping up for less than half what they were going for a year ago.. It's a true anamorphic nutters paradise on ebay at the moment what with all the bandwagoners giving up due to it being too much effort. Flooded market and prices more realistic now. What is awesome is that a lot more kowas will show up since users will migrate to a gold or red anamorphic to use on the fm unit and only the experimenters will be willing to make the kowa and similar lenses with non 71mm diameters work.1 point

The only thing worries me that they are relying on 2nd hand anamorphic lenses, and we all know what happens when the demand gets high on things like that. The FM lens's price might feel fair, but in 4-6 months the 2x anamorphic prices might go double or even triple. And that's not a pleasant thought.1 point

Found this somewhere else, haven't tried it yet but... Go to HDMI Settings on the last menu group and once you select that you'll see HDMI Info Display. Turn that off. That will put the video on your monitor without the info, but the LCD will still work and it will have all the info on it.1 point

FM lens discount
Cosimo murgolo reacted to Hans Punk for a topic
Sounds like they are doing things right, not rushing until they are happy that things are ready. Quite commendable in a world where people are often too keen to rush things out without any care over quality. I'm personally not interested in a discount from 550 Euros, that is a very fair price for something that looks like it will enable many duel/single focus anamorphic projector lenses to be used as single focus units that should rival or maybe surpass the results from some cinema grade optics out there on the second hand market. I do understand that the price could seem steep for some, but it does look like at the price point already set - you are getting a very good deal indeed. To put things into perspective, their price point at the moment is £2k cheaper than an alternative product to be found on this forum.1 point -

For those of you who are still sceptical about focus module, next video test is going to be with the Isco Ultra star coming soon, and later test Kowa B&H later. I have also asked about their website shop, the answer: The webpage is in the building process We are releasing just the second of our product. And we are more concentrated in doing that. However we are developing the idea how it should look Our ambition is after the release of FM Lens make Anamorphic Shop Web live Stay tuned! Thanks!1 point -
Panasonic GH4 user films, tests, reviews and opinions
JazzBox reacted to Pascal Garnier for a topic
After trying out various settings with the GH4, my impression is that the best way to shoot with it is as with my G6. One of my last shoots with my G6 was for an Ikea commercial. The other cameras on that shoot were Sony F5's and F55's. In the final edit, there's no way to tell which shots were my G6 and which were the Sony's. Same thing with another shoot with Sony's à nd a Red. On the G6, I shot with the NATURAL profile with contrast, sharpness, noise reduction all the way down. Saturation and hue are dialled in depending on what the scene needs. I don't touch Master Pedestal at all, nor do I mess with the shadows and highlights. This gives me a very flat image with proper skintones that grades very well and carries none of the noise that seems to plague the GH4 when shooting with Cinelike D or V. I also suggest to keep the ISO at 400 (even though 800 is supposed to be the native ISO) and use ND filters when needed. Or adjust the shutterspeed if you're after that look or have no ND. I also use a Speedbooster clone with fast Canon FD lenses, which gives a decent low light performance with the GH4. Finally, I record most of my serious work on an Atomos Ninja, so the 10-bit definitely helps, as does shooting in 4K and having the camera downconvert to 2K through HDMI.1 point -
SLR Magic 2x Anamorphic - my footage and first impressions
nahua reacted to Chris Chan for a topic
John, no offence, it seems you are comparing products of different price line,(2500 ukp Rectilux vs 1000 usd Anamophot), and I dont think this kind of comparison makes any sense. As a user, I dont know HK9L glass or something really is, but the popularity of anamophot 1.33 has already proven its quality and market. To be honest, I do believe your Rectilux may produce better image than many other lenses . However, few will agree the way you judge another product like this.1 point -
I have an A6000 and although I find the AVCHD codec quality is very good in most normal scenes when you have a central subject, in other shots when there is a ton of high-frequency information AND a lot of motion in the scene sometimes the compression can't keep up. Here are some examples: Shot #1 - central subject, light camera and subject motion, not a ton of high-frequency detail in the scene. Don't see much in the way of compression artifacts. Shot #2 - lots of high-frequency detail but shot is fairly static. Pretty decent detail, don't see a lot of compression artifacts. Shot #3 - subject in motion, camera in motion, lots of high-frequency detail in the background. Although sometimes it's hard to distinguish motion blur from compression artifacts here (I'm shooting at 1/50), there are some noticeable compression artifacts on the trees, the subject's t-shirt, and the edge of the subject against the background. I'm curious if recording the raw HDMI output with the Ninja Star would eliminate these artifacts.1 point

Canon FD lenses are great optically and cheap as a general all rounder you cannot beat the 35-70mm f4 it costs about $25 on ebay and is optically amazing almost as good as my Zeiss lenses , add it to a FD speedbooster and you have an approx 25-50mm f2.8 all metal constant apperture zoom (with internal zoom and focus!!) with practically zero distortion across the whole range this lens is great1 point
