Dog Schidt and SLR 1.33 Anamorphot on a7S
Zach Ashcraft and 2 others reacted to kazkioken for a topic
Some various shots using the awesome FF58 and other with a Voigt 50 1.5 (@2.8) together with the SLR Anamorphot. Yes the low light ability is pretty insane on the camera, I wish I brought my Ninja Blade to record the footage though. Hard to pack everything while on vacation since, you're supposed to be on vacation lol. I hope there will be a 4:3 mode for 2X anamorphic on this camera one day...we can wish :)3 points -
Lenses to keep throughout GH4 > BMCC 4k > RED SCARLET

Devon/Andy could you show us some samples with those lenses? :) Btw Andy I really suggest you take a look at that Sigma. At 18mm wide open, you still get good background separation and combined with the angle of view you get an almost out-of-this-world kind of look. Just buy the camera that works well for you and learn to get the best image out of it.2 points -
Selling C100 for A7s, 5d3 for A7r. Am I crazy?
Cosimo murgolo and one other reacted to QuickHitRecord for a topic
@Zach Be brand agnostic. Shoot with every camera you can get your hands on (without buying it) and it will become pretty self-evident what works best for you. Weigh the expense and downtime related with switching cameras against the improvements that you will get. Sometimes it will make sense to upgrade, and other times it is smarter to stick with what you've got for a little longer. No one can answer these questions but you!2 points -
Lenses to keep throughout GH4 > BMCC 4k > RED SCARLET

Uh oh. I probably will, once the bank account recovers! This is one of the reasons why I like the Nikon DSLR's so much. You get the Super 35mm look straight out of the camera and with great colours too. The combination of that and the 28 - 70 is superb. I like my AI-S lenses (particularly the 85mm F2), but this zoom covers all the bases really well, and actually handles well, given its size. I was particularly pleased to see almost no barrel distortion at the 28mm end - doorway verticals look vertical! I'll see what I can do, when I get a bit of spare time.1 point -

I bought one of these a week ago and it is superb. I use it on my hacked Nikon D5200 and the video quality is amazing. Thanks, Andy, for enthusing about this lens so much!1 point -

Here's a short (2 min) vacation video I shot on the A6000 in Jasper, Alberta. Lenses used were the Sony 24mm 1.8, Sony 10-18mm f/4, and Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS. I found the quality pretty decent for most 'normal' scenes with a central subject against a DOF-blurred background, but the codec showed a fair bit of compression artifacts when there was a lot of high frequency detail on screen that was moving rapidly, like forest scenes. Looking forward to either upgrading to the A7s or a future APS-C e-mount camera with XAVC @ 50Mbps.1 point

£2500 also goes a long way when buying a matching set of contax zeiss. A red t* on the front of a lens says a lot, and image looks like cinema too. a red ring around your lens conversely oozes guy who went to argos and bought the most expensive canon lens they had on offer, and also makes footage look like the rest of these types:) L stands for 'lack lusture' when used in moving picture IMO1 point -

let your work do the talking man. if you show up with a small camera and deliver a result the client likes, you'll get booked again. if you're not getting the bookings you want, use the money you;d waste on a heavy cumbersome show piece, and spend it instead on a nice personal showreel piece. for example £2500 goes a long way in travel expenses to shoot something impressive. or could be spent on living expenses while working on a no fee passion project for a good client, that boosts your showreel credibility.1 point -

i am a bit disappointed by eoshd for the timing of the report of the apertus axiom beta crowd funding campaign. at least you finally did report it. magic lantern is open source but here is a though: maybe ML has just a few active developers because not many of the people that can/want to get into development want to supercharge a proprietary product and boost canons sales? so maybe ml is not the best open source paradigm and maybe thats the reason ML developers are really interested in this axiom beta project. here is a few other open source projects out there that can be used as paradigms: gnu linux, firefox, android aosp/cyanogen, apache, blender, mysql, libre/openoffice, inkscape, gimp, wordpress, x264, wikipedia and many many more i am sure i forgot to mention. also take a look at this just for fun: http://mylinuxbook.com/awesome-devices-powered-by-linux/ the hardware part is a bit more tricky. there are already quite a few successful projects out there and axiom is trying to be one of them. and as mentioned before, this project has been planed for years. it didnt all start with a crowd funding campaign a month ago. the difference between apertus and blackmagic design or other camera manufacturers is not that they work for free(they dont) or that they are smarter(maybe they are) or things like that. the main difference is that open source is a totally different business model. and that is a great advantage in my opinion. for example its a great thing, having the datasheets of a sensor publicly available without having to sign NDAs with the manufacturer and hundreads of people already are coming up with ideas and tricks to drive the sensor to its limits, before even getting the camera itself. the cost of this camera is relatively higher than other cameras because fair labor is a prerequisite for the apertus team and the open source culture. this camera wont be produced in sweatshops like many other cameras do and thats actually a good thing. to use this camera, as any other open source project, you dont have to be a programmer. its not the same sensor with the AJA Cion and the BM 4k. those companies keep the sensor they use a sealed secret and thats the actual problem. you are holding a black box in your hands and you have no idea whats inside and if you can use it more efficiently, let alone modify it and fine tune it for your needs. and dont forget, this is what DPs (they are professionals) were doing and loved doing in the past. there are people that want to know how the things they use work and be able to customize or alter their function and there are people that dont. why call the former hobbyists and the latter professional? why not vice versa? anyway i dont think thats the criterion for professionalism this is a beta camera. the focus is on building a system that can support and drive a sensor as capable as the cmv12000 for example. everything learned from this will be used in the gamma, the sensor as well. it is the first time so many will be able to get this close to a sensors inner workings (if they wish of course) dont you think this will produce amazing results? its ok not everybody has to get one of these cameras and be on board if they feel uncomfortable with this whole idea. this project is not trying to make you feel bad about not joining. after all there are risks involved. just wait and see the effect this project will have on the proprietary culture in general also visit the apertus website and just give it a look. there are many interesting things in there. https://www.apertus.org/1 point
