Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Newest Short Film Shot Entirely on Samsung NX1
Sebastien Farges and one other reacted to Guest for a topic
I believe that now may be the time to reveal that I am in fact Joseph Gordon-Levitt! Andrew, I am a huge fan of your blog!!! As I apply 'the method' to everything I do I have in fact been living in North East England for some time, shooting a lot of stuff with a Nikon DSLR and adopting a grouchy and abrasive persona to disguise my easy-going and gregarious nature.2 points -
Perfect camera for enthusiast, not yet professional, user?
Xavier Plagaro Mussard and one other reacted to fuzzynormal for a topic
Any camera is perfect as long as you actually do something with it...besides just take test pictures of leaves and then compare DxO charts the rest of the time. Or, just wait for the next big/best thing. Have a lot of patience because it never comes.2 points -

Freebie: Android app -- Director's Viewfinder for BMPCC
Henry Gentles reacted to rommex for a topic
Hey all, I developed an Android app that serves you as director's viewfinder. Having your Android device with you, you can see exact framing of your Pocket camera on location, applying your lenses and boosters. Planning your lens setup has never been easier! Please check out the app: Play Market The app has ads in it, though not too nasty. You can always switch to a paid Magic Universal Viewfinder that has no ads, no limits and lots of cameras supported -- like BMCC, BMPC4K, 5D Mark III and 4/3 sensored-cameras. Enjoy and feel free to give your feedback! Thanks!1 point -
This was done couple of years ago. The whole thing was written, filmed and edited in about 3 weeks time so everything was in a rush. Some shots are pretty bad, editing is not really all there and some cheesy dialogue. I was embarrassed to show this to people so I didn't really put it out but I guess bad feed back is better than no feedback so here it is. Any comments are welcome thank you. Filmed on Canon 60D / Sigma 30mm f1.4 / Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 / Tokina 11-16mm f2.81 point

Would anyone like to buy my A7S
maxotics reacted to Tim Naylor for a topic
Own A7s. Had a 5D3. Never used ML on jobs for variety of reasons. Sometimes I wonder about my decision to get rid of 5d3. For stills it's far superior. For video, I find the colors of 5d3 in a different league than A7s. While A7s is better for me in almost every other category (DR and resolution), it wouldn't surprise me if you showed a side by side clip to a regular audience member or client, they may very well prefer the 5d3. Most humans don't care about resolution. They do sense when colors are off. I did a similar blind test between F55, Dragon and Alexa projected in front of producers and the director for a feature I shot last Summer. Alexa won unanimously, Dragon 2nd and F55 last. Despite the Alexa being 2k, the others 6k and 4k, the skin tones won the day.1 point -

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Newest Short Film Shot Entirely on Samsung NX1
Christina Ava reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Yes it does look like a marketing person got given the job of colourist on it and they could have used a few cinematographers on it, looks like it was done using crude stabilisation and self-shot, though I guess that was the idea.1 point -
If one is willing to work with the large files and extra workflow, 5D3 14-bit RAW is far better than the A7S except for very low light. The A7S dynamic range advantage doesn't offset the superior 14-bit Canon color science, especially for people/skin.1 point

I'm getting to really like the look it has with the Cinelux - seems to have the sharpness you would ever need when stopped down, yet it retains a decent stretch to the bokeh - quite unique. Pretty much isco sharp in the sharps, LOMO soft in the softs. Let's call it 'The LOCO look'? The FM close focus ability is useful because you can stop down a fair bit yet still get that lovely diopter - shallow look when focusing up close and personal to your subject. I have not noticed ANY Chromatic Aberration at edges so far, only a highlight ghost/ stretch when taking lens is pushed to f2.0 and below. But this is nothing that the most beautiful LOMO Square-fronts don't do Woah, that is crazy...small world huh!? I discovered that track just today, after re-watching some old episodes of Twin Peaks. Yeah man, get out there and shoot when you can...I bet the A7s + FM lens is a beast combo.1 point -

But on the other hand Christina, take a look at this thread: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> That's one of the things I'd like for xmas :) Seems like it would be possible to get a nice look in harsh light with those filters.1 point
