Come on guys. Lets leave it there. I understand there was sourness towards Cosimo's group buy topic (and as such John Barlow lost his administrator rights). So I understand Cosimo's reasons here. I am also happy to see developments of the Rectilux concept from John - I'll freely admit I gave him a hard time about his methods and conduct, but primarily about bold claims I was questioning. Now it would seem John is taking a quieter approach with only occasional updates of this topic. To be fair, I am not seeing hard selling but just occasional info about developments. I am also seeing a product that if it comes to light in a tangible way ( I hope it does), will be something that will benefit a lot of users here. Personally I feel it might be wise to close this topic down, and have John decant the most important information into a new topic where potential customers can direct their queries and productivity can be rekindled on the subject. Does this sound logical? **I'd also like to point out that as a potential customer myself, I will be awaiting images and tests (ideally third party) or finished articles before any money leaves my account. I urge everyone to take care and factor this in before jumping on board without seeing tangible products or an expected availability date of items that appear largely at the concept stage of development. **2 points

What's the best 1080P cam?
Cinegain reacted to Ivar Kristjan Ivarsson for a topic
that is funny. Yes I have. The A7s has arrived but not the lens(Sony FE 24-70 f4). Will get it around the end of this month. The NX1 just was not for me, I guess it was an impulse buy. I have been thinking/reading/looking at footage about/shot with the A7s for some time. I had a small hope that the NX1 would fulfill my needs cause the price on that camera is so sexy. But it makes more sense for me to go the Sony path. Cause there is another cam on the market with a sexy price: Sony Fs7. And I can get good support from Sony rep's here(Iceland). And those two make a very sexy combo(I think! Have not shot with these cam's yet)1 point -

I found this little video: http://vimeo.com/116044343 A7s, Canon 24-105 EF, Metabones Adapter(Not Speedbooster). Shot with Autumn Leaves creative style, contrast -3, sat 0, sharpness -3. Dynamic Range Optimization (DRO) Level 4. Some CC done, he does not specify how or with what. What a great little piece, I like what this guy does with the A7s.1 point -

Yeah, I've been putting off uploading the thing, but I'll place it online and add a link. Ultimately I'm of the opinion that naturalistic lighting matters a lot --and how you take advantage of that light with your selection of lenses. In my short film, the idea was that most of the movie shots are memories from the "unreliable narrators" so the images are deliberately pushed pretty hard to not look realistic. Colors are exaggerated and stylized. All decisions that add to the "filmic" look. But the camera body? Kind of the least of the worries to consider, IMHO. Just about any camera made in the past few years will do the job.1 point -

If you're cool with a tiny sensor, no really wide glass, needing a speedbooster, and if you never need 60p slow motion - for starters. This is the kind of question that usually isn't taken very seriously... the OP has a lot of research to do. Sensor size, frame rates, codec... you need to define what a "filmic" look means to you, and if that $2500 covers lenses, batteries, loupes, monitors, recorders, if you need decent audio, and on and on. The only thing you'll find out definitively: one man's best is another man's joke.1 point -

@Andrew: Some tip for Your 5k iMac. If you hold Option while clicking on "Scaled" then it'll let you choose 5120x2880. So You are able to use 1:1 Pixel.1 point -
For me this thread is an unfairness, Mr Barlow is deliberately pushing his own products, why is it ok for him and not for others? ask yourself this question and give yourself an answer. No one is fighting, I am just trying to make this clear that it's not bloody fair. He comes here just to advertise his rectilux, why doesn't he answer to what's going here, cos he is a coward and he is taking advantage of this thread, but I am sure if somebody else was doing what he is doing he would have demanded some answers. Search on the internet for Barlow and his products and you can understand what this man is after, MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!!!!! He is all over the places , whenever you see some anamorphic topics, Barlow is there promoting his stuff, come on man!!!!!1 point

adapter question/problem
Wedookayfilms reacted to tupp for a topic
It doesn't appear to be fully locked, and that's unsafe. The first video that I linked is a tutorial from Metabones. They attempt to show an internal black tab fitting into a black slot along with demonstrating which external ring to unintuitively turn. I am afraid that they don't do a very good job of conveying what's needed for the operation, so you have to pay very close attention to everything that they try to show. There have been reports about folks having to file the internal tab to make the lens function properly. Mechanically, these lenses seem a little "over-engineered." If I had to eliminate the rear protective ears, I try to remove them cleanly by unscrewing them. If there are any screws attaching the ears to the body of the lens, they are under the rear lens mount. So, it might be good to remove the silver Phillips screws shown in this photo below that attach the lens mount. Then remove the rear lens mount and see what's underneath. If the ears are mounted with screws to the lens body, then merely unscrew them and save them and the ears in a small container/plastic bag, and reattach the rear lens mount. If there is no easy way to remove the ears with the rear lens mount off, then the ears might need to be sawed or snipped off. I would be very careful in doing so, to keep plastic chips and metal filings from getting into the lens and/or onto the optical elements. One way to get the optics safely away from such work is to remove the entire optical assembly, as shown here. Here is an example of a lens with the ears cut. Hope this helps.1 point -

these were the very first guys I would hire, first because you could not find any better, second to stop working them for your competitor and that even for free I hope it's true, they should have earned much more respect, imagine what they could have achieved if not old conservative managers in Tokyo holed up in their kamikaze approach to whom belongs the raw codec, the firmware and the mostly horrible UI Take Nikon as an example - holly moly, what a mess alone with their own proprietary raw-encoder. Enjoy the D810, the world's most advantaged 36 mio jpg-only body, instead of worldclass working shareware, LOL any risk? No, let people built their own firmware on their own risk and if they brick their bodies, it increases only your salaries by repairing it. :-)1 point -

2nd shoot with Sony FS7 - thoughts
jcs reacted to bakerschoice23 for a topic
JCS I shot and edited the 2nd Sony FS7 video you posted above. Sorry the 1:17 stutter was a user error on my end. The footage played fine on my timeline it wasn't until I exported the video had stutter issues. I reexported to fix the problem and I still need to go back and figure out what was wrong with my export that created thew stutter problems. I've updated and there the video plays smoothly now.1 point -
adapter question/problem
Wedookayfilms reacted to tupp for a topic
Thanks for posting the photos. It is surprising that such a shallow protrusion could touch any internal structure in the GH2. If that's what is happening, I would guess that the best thing to do is to remove the ears or "mill-off" the portion of the ears that hit the GH2. Before you take such drastic action, it might be worthwhile to try another Contax G lens that doesn't have such ears. By the way, is your lens fully "locked" into the adapter?1 point -
Yes. Barlow threatened to close the FM thread when he was a moderator and Andrew found that it wasn't suitable that Barlow was a moderator since he had his own interest in promoting his products - so it ended in Andrew removing the moderator rights. The anamorphic forum on EOSHD is the best place for anamorphic fans on the Internet. I don't see any problem at all with people who make anamorphic modules / attachments to promote their products here - as long as it is clear that they are promoting their products, which I think is quite clear if you read through this thread. Heck. I wouldn't mind if Letus, SLR Magic and Anamorphic shop all had their own main threads discussing their development and lenses, taking feedback and answering questions! It's just nice to have information available right here in the forum. I don't see it as I am forced to buy anything from Barlow. But he makes it easy for me to follow along and be up to date about his product, should it interest me. I would say that is something that can be considered a gain for us forum members here!1 point

Is Adobe Premiere to blame for banding in 8bit DSLR footage?
Francisco Rios reacted to Oliver Daniel for a topic
It's unfortunate not to see any mention of Final Cut Pro X in this article. The release of the new design troubled many Final Cut Pro 7 users, but the majority who were annoyed at the drastic changes seem not to have experienced what it is like today. You should definitely try FCPX as it's grown into an incredible program that is very intuitive, easy and fast to use, has top notch pulgin support and most of all - makes editing fun and leaves more time to be more creative. I've also heard several editors mention that the quality of the exported files from FCPX are much better than those from Premiere. I know that Noam Kroll did a blog post about it. I recommend that you get into FCPX Andrew, as it sounds like you are not satisfied with Premiere. The bad press it got on release is irrelevant now. It is absolutely fantastic now. More editors need to wake up!!1 point -

You have to properly mount the lens to the adapter first, and, then, mount the lens/adapter to the camera. Here is a Metabones instructional video. Here is more detail on the elements involved.1 point -
The same way everybody can read your post, anybody can answer them. If you want to talk to John Barlow personally you can PM him, nobody will comment on that unless somebody publishes these conversations (like this: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/7842-dog-schidt-optiks-threatens-motion-six/). Get used to it. What's your motivation anyway? Warning people that John barlow is an evil man and that nobody should buy his products? Revenge of some kind of sort? I don't get it, and since this is some kind of community after all, I will answer to that kind of shit.1 point
-
Right now he is openly selling his product here, if Andrew doesn't like it he will tell him so. Back then John Barlow was taken off moderation, had to hear all kind of things like his product was shitty and people downrating his topic, and that's where that story ended. Now you come and try to pull of the same (minus you not being moderator), so don't get so upset at that gtfo.1 point

That's the point, this thread it's like an open restaurant where Mr Barlow takes new orders from customers, I advice you to read through this: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/7181-fm-lens-discount/?page=2 so you can get a better idea who you are dealing with. This thread has been pushed from mr Barlow to sell his stuff only. Mr Barlow caveat emptor doesn't apply to you? doesn't it. I would like moderators or Andrew to close down this thread, and give Mr Barlow a taste of his own medicine. Please araucaria moderate your language with me (gtfo) I haven't spoken to you like that, never!1 point

I don´t know about other people, but I would like to see a real, physical product and some test done by professional photographer before pay for this. If also I can suggest something for the design.. I think this modules should be black matte paint, dented ring for follow focus, distances scale feet and meters and 90º ring turn. Right now,the CGI looks like a toy.1 point

Haven't seen Birdman yet, watched the video above here, reading about it now. Awesome cinematography. Love the wide angle combined with the shallow focus. Have to see this! It's shot on Alexa with a Leica 16mm T1.4 and Master Prime 12mm T1.3 mostly. That's some crazy stuff, if they shot wide open, that's even less dof than you'd get on fullframe usually - or you would have to be shooting with a 18mm f/2.0. http://www.cinematographydb.com/2014/11/cinematography-birdman-emmanuel-lubezki-asc/ I also loved the cinematography of The Grand Budapest Hotel. Crazy combination of anamorphic wide shots and 4:3. Really suits the film.1 point -
There is no mention in the OP's post about image quality he asks what camera setup would be best. Since I have no idea what he intends to shoot I gave general strengths and weaknesses for both in an attempt to give him some useful feedback. No the night shots I have seen look rather odd to me and I am not a fan of them either. I am not saying that this camera is for shooting in the dark, I don't need night vision. I am saying that it can be used to shooting indoors or on city streets at night without the need to be wide open all the time. I have the feeling you are a someone who has seen all the hey the A7s can see in the dark videos thinking how ridiculous they are and never thought how that super sensitivity and clean images at high ISO's can be extremely useful in more practical situations. I will take the king and queen debate as sarcasm and only say that in English queen can have negative connotations depending on how it is used at least in reference to a camera. I am avoiding those since I think the A7s is an awesome little camera.1 point
