  2. Whether or not these women were abused they will always be doubted, mistrusted, and hushed by some people. Whether Philip Bloom physically/verbally/mentally abused anyone or not, his reputation has been tarnished at best, possibly derailed. Maybe he deserves this maybe he doesn’t. Regardless of the validity of the allegations Eric Kessler had to terminate business relations with Bloom because of the impending blowback to him and his business. Regardless of what anyone (including myself) decides to say or post about this topic, someone will hate them and reply with some really nasty response. Life just isn’t fair, and when do you ever have 100% of the information needed to make a “fair” or “just” decision. Rarely. There are people who are falsely accused, just as there are true victims who are never heard or believed. You do the best you can with what you’ve got. It’s likely that along the way someone’s gonna like you, and someone else’s gonna hate you for the same ideas/video/blogpost. For all it’s purported power the internet sure has a lot of drawbacks too. Just some thoughts.

  3. What is the goal of this topic? What does it want to discuss? Usually we read for benefit and enjoyment... is this either? It seems Ed's posts are sort of pioneering an internet bombshell. What if Ed becomes the face of the Philip Bloom abuse scandal, the man who woke up camera nerds to domestic abuse? Ed could get internet camera nerd famous on the grounds of Philip Blooms personal life. Bit weird. Sounds like a film. I personally don't mind you Ed, but you have lots of talent and I feel you are wasting decent time when you could actually be wowing the world of camera nerds with a blockbuster NX1 short film. No one is making decent films with this camera - you could be the guy who proves you can make amazing art with a Samsung product. Do a film about domestic abuse, change the world. Anything like this is far better than using up your valuable time in writing about a famous camera nerds relationship issues in what seems to be ultimately ineffective apart from snapping the temper strings of other fellow camera nerds. Camera nerds are very easy to annoy. Do something more challenging. Make this art you've got on your chest and give the domestically abused a hand of support Time better spent.

  4. Ed, what I think about this issue at this point is irrelevant, your reaction to it has significantly decreased my respect for you. Starting a new thread just because you didn't enjoy the reactions to your stance on the previous one is juvenile.

  5. The way I see it, in today's world with so many other options, there's very little reason to have a video shooting camera without an EVF and titling screen. The 5DMIV probably won't have either, and probably won't have 4k as well. Canon needs a Super 35 sensor mirrorless camera with EVF and 4k. This is the camera people need, and it won't step on their Full Frame DSLRs, but will kill them for 4k Video.

  6. This is just sad... And who are we to judge? They and only they know the truth we can just speculate, so until we have a clear statement I rather not say anything. And please If we do give our opinion let's not hate on each other, at least respect one an other even if other people don't respect us, don't use such strong words, we are so far from this situation, we can't even begin to understand what really happened. How many problems and hate have happened only because of miscommunication and a lack of information.

  7. I have this general mindset to be careful of people who don't get on with animals. Some people only suit themselves. That's scary. Human relationships are incredibly complex, and when they go very wrong other complex humans need to make complex decisions about doing something complex to the complex people involved. That's complex. In this world - there is relentless cruelty going on which most of us are blind to. Governments kill. Children are slaves. Animals are tortured. Livelihoods are destroyed. Citizens are brainwashed. Corporations fuel greed. Materialism is a God. Canon won't release an affordable cinema camera. I've got eczema. My dog stole my last sandwich. I like Ed David. I enjoy EOSHD. I appreciate Philip Blooms camera reviews. I love my fiancé. My dog is awesome. My cat is beautiful. My Mother is funny. My Dad is now a fantastic memory. I'm going to be a Dad. My brothers are talented. My life is personal. I'm sharing my life with strangers. Could all be lies. But it's not. It's the truth. It's only my truth, maybe not someone else's. Maybe I'm deluded. Do I actually have a cat and things like that? Are they good for me? I'm crazy. Pretending to be, accidentally on purpose. The moral of my post is.... Erm, there isn't one. It's subjective. Take from it what you want. Or don't. I'm just trying to make sense of this thread and realised I don't know Philip Bloom or Sarah and can't be any help to them by talking about it on a camera tech forum. Damn!

  8. The new lightweight portable URSA Mini has a much smaller screen and looks a bit like a DVX100. New Blackmagic sensor is 4.6K, 15 stops. New Blackmagic Cinema Camera is also to be announced at NAB. Resolve 12 will be released shortly afterwards.

    I made a thing

Hi guys, I've lurked on this site for some time, building up the courage to grab a camera and make something, well I finally did it! I would really appreciate it if you would give it a quick look, it's less than a minute long, and let me know what you think - I'm especially interested in constructive criticism! I was out for a walk and I thought there was a house fire, in the distance I could see this billowing white, what appeared to be smoke. I got to the coast and this stuff was just rolling in off the sea, I assume it was mist or fog. It only penetrated about 20m onto land so those of us on the beach were in this weird twilight zone. I grabbed my camera and just started shooting, no plan, no gear - I was using a Blackmagic Pocket, the screen was unusable so I was framing and focussing completely blind. I think I did quite well in the circumstances. When I got my footage home, I made this out of what I had, I wanted to portray the eeriness of the event, and I wanted it to build slowly, hence the transition to black and white from colour, which I am quite pleased with. Let me know what you think, how I could have done better, what you liked etc, but be kind, it's my first video that isn't a family home video!

  10. One o the most intriguing thing for me is that the ursa mini has a blackmagic evf.

  12. Also, is somewhat ironic the abuse Ed has suffered for his opinions and beliefs, given the subject matter itself is abuse!! Stop it guys. Or we'll have to talk about cameras again...

  14. It would appear Detective Ed has appointed himself judge and jury. Therefore his abuse of Bloom is justified. And make no mistake Ed, what you are doing is incredibly abusive, destructive, and hurtful to Bloom. How would you feel if you were accused of child molestation and almost overnight had your reputation destroyed by people who said they were just standing up for the victims of child sexual abuse? Look up the McMartin preschool trial. Not every accusation turns out to be legit Ed. And you know very little about what happened between Bloom and these ladies. The bottom line is none of us know what really happened. But you've convinced yourself Bloom is guilty and deserving of your abuse. Shameful. What you are doing, your behavior, is completely shameful. I ask you to please reconsider behavior and stop it. You are doing great harm with your witch hunt to what could very well be a completely innocent person.

  15. I'm with the innocent! I wish people would take their grievances to court first and then take it public, not the other way round. Why should the internet have to deal with this shit when there are police and judges paid to do it? Speculating on this issue feels dirty and wrong. Ugh....

  17. Let's try and avoid pointing the finger at each other. The situation is as bad enough as it is without losing more friends because of differences of opinion on an internet forum.

Nobody in the history of press releases ever has said something like "this time..." twice in the opening paragraph. Amateurish sham.

I think this is really pretty - you cpatured a really gentle mood. I love mist in the morning. Keep it up - glad you had the courage to share!

  21. I think David was very careful with his words - he said "It could be argued that we all have our right to privacy" and "'internet stars' seem to give up that right.". His point was about reputation, not exactly about losing any rights per say. The accused isn't forced to divulge further information to the media. That's why there's advice to lawyer up before putting the foot in the mouth and why the statement was originally privately emailed. The tabloids like the Sun and Daily Mail are always getting sued left and right by celebrities that do not wish to indulge in any more press and media speculation.

  22. Their Cinema EOS range has pretty much killed all hope of the 5dmk4 being anything more than a bombproof stills camera with a below par video function. Unless ML get hold of it before launch and remove all the crippling features canon include in the firmware.

  23. Trust me Ed you shouldn't be taking abuse condemnations from guys like Vincent Gafney and Salah Baker on twitter. Highly abusive themselves all the time on social media, often to me.

  24. At least answer the question from a page back about how youre gonna react if youre proven to be wrong? Youve got one thing totally wrong in any case, this isnt a fight between those who want to protect women and those who want to ignore abuse against them.

  25. @ Ed David stop judging a man/woman as you have no right, you are not the law and let alone have you been presented with all of the facts. One thing is not to agree with certain actions, the other is what you are doing here. I can assure you, your actions will follow you, so be very very careful the energy you put out into this world, especially negative....... Peace

    I made a thing

Thanks so much, really appreciate the feedback! I agree about the ambient sound, I agonised about putting it in - spent a good hour carefully crafting the audio I got into the piece but it was in camera only and it detracted from the ambience too much. What I would have given to have my zoom with me!!! There were two stories that I saw - there was the lone guy meditating on the path at the start and end, but he got crowded out by dog walkers and people throwing stones so he left. That was the story I was focusing on during shooting. Then there was a story I only picked up on after, when I was reviewing my footage. Out of the mist came the rowing boat and the guy rowing it hauled it onto the beach, turned it over and started repairing a hole in the bottom. In my mind I can imagine he got into trouble in the mist, aimed towards the shore and prayed, perhaps being guided by the voices of the people playing on the beach. I definitely am mostly interested in narrative work, and I do need to write a story and shoot it next, something simple and easy to build my skillset! I do take your critique on board too, watching it back with that in mind, it's really obvious! Thanks again! I do appreciate your help!

    Canon XC10 4K camcorder

I could not imagine that Canon consistently drives the mediocrity. Yes, they can. 1“ sensor, fixed f2.8-5.6, 64 GB CFast 2.0 for 4k ~ 300,- € !! (64 GB SDXC 10/3 for 4k in GH4 ~ 35 €) No EVF, touch screen is nice, but it’s not usable when loupe is mounted to it 2.500 $??!! Get a GH4 with 2.8/12-35 instead and you'll have the real thing. I understand better what Canon‘s branding effort means: “Canon See Impossible” - We see that it is impossible to catch up with competition

  29. One thing about Kinefinity..their prices may be attractive, but they're somewhat deceiving You want 6k, yes of course, add $1000You want high frame rates, add $1000You want a battery grip, which does add nice functionality, that's $349, and literally feels like a $30 Canon knockoffYou want SDI, that's $349Wifi, that's $349Kinestation (dirt-basic software) to transcode from KRW, $349And the funny thing, is that the base model brain is hardware-capable of all of these features. 6k, wifi, everything. You're paying thousands for firmware to "unlock" these features. Still no different that Redonomics, but I'd rather see someone truly disrupt rather than copy that shifty model at a lower price point.

  30. I think that's greatly oversimplifying things. The sensor in the GH4 is larger and the stills are better. The codec records to cheaper media with 3x smaller file sizes. The XC10 is 4:2:2 internal I believe? Canon LOG is welcome. I expect the Panasonic FZ1000 will give very close results for $799 with a better lens so the XC10 is a no-buy for me.

  31. Wow that promo video is going to take some beating for wooden model movements. She behaves like a cyborg. The dirt under my fingernails contains more life than is present in that video. The yellow-tinted clipped highlights are similar to what I get on the FZ1000 for $700. You'd think for $2500 they would have sorted that out. This camera tarnishes the Cinema EOS brand.

  32. Yea, I'm just not sure I will take the FS700/OQ7 to Iceland as it is quite a beast to carry around, especially with 5 primes and a large tripod. Iceland is so amazing though, not sure anything but 4K, raw, 1-120fps would do it justice. Decisions, decisions
