I don't want to come across as being self-serving with this, but I work at one of the retailers that received pre-release firmware to test on the GH4. There are "reasons" V-LOG-L is not part of the v2.2 update, but I can assure you, Panasonic would not have let us release the footage we shot with it if they weren't planning on actually bringing it to the GH4. We tested it in some fairly low-light conditions and, yes, it is noisy, but the footage was still a dream to work with in post compared to CineD. Here is a link to a basic before/after color grade test I did (sorry if the colors are "dodgy" ;-) ): https://youtu.be/AhPK56Ii5sw And our full presentation: https://youtu.be/_aEMUDQlRFE Lens used was a Cooke 40mm t/2.3 2x anamorphic. Again, really not trying to come across as self-serving or spammy here, just wanting to contribute to the conversation.4 points

Exactly my point. It's you who has been pushing the "It's black and white, you must choose a side" agenda. This is an opinion, there is nothing wrong with having an opinion. Your opinion is not truth, only your opinion. And are you claiming to have never been wrong about anything in your life, because I think that you, as a normal human being, get things wrong literally every day. Firstly, it's sad that you let your expensive, privileged western education get pissed against the wall. 8 years studying something for nothing is a spit in the face to the less fortunate who struggle every day to access education. Secondly, I bet you wouldn't let that homeless man perform a c-section on a loved one. I bet my last dollar you would insist on a qualified, experienced surgeon. Thirdly, if you have such disdain for credentials, why are you looking for evidence and case reports created by people with the credentials. You can't have it both ways, you can't tell me that you do not respect my experience and education (though your lack of respect for education is apparently a thing with you) yet at the same time be relying on not being able to find a case report written by someone with credentials to back your opinion. It's one or the other. I'm sorry that your friend doesn't have emotional intelligence, but having the ability to empathise and emotionally connect with people is core to how a psychologist works. Not that I ever worked as a psychologist after my education - those skills were developed to supplement a different career, but thanks for stereotyping me - but I would not have passed my first year without having the skills you clearly want to assume I do not have. We'll talk about your "credentials to have an opinion" in just a second. Spoiler: I'm going to call you a hypocrite. But how can you expect people to take a stand when there is no more information coming in. Ed, if you do one thing, answer this question that you keep avoiding: Are you of the opinion that fake accusations are no big deal. Let's be clear, this is where you are going to struggle because you lack the emotional wisdom to seperate opinion from fact, you do not know if Philip Bloom abused those women or not. You are correct, this is not about him anyway, it's about whether you can be labelled as guilty without being proven so. We are saying no. You are saying yes. I have tried to engage you in a number of ways to give you a flavour of what it feels like to be falsely accused and judged for doing nothing wrong. You have deflected like a pro, squirmed and tried to verbosely talk your way out of answering the questions I have been asking of you. We could have done the interview it in the time you spent writing all the posts you have made since you made the offer, especially as you have coopted my gear and my studio to do it all for you. Have you ever actually given a professional interview before? Did you not know it is rather rude to request an interview for a production that will forward your career, then refuse to arrange transport, ask the person to do your setup for you, use their own gear etc. If you want to go into this journalistic style of filmmaking, please understand that you need to have respect for people willing to give up their time for your career, especially when you have made it clear that you have an agenda you will push, which the person is arguing against. Why am I busting my ass, giving you free use of my resources, free use of my time for nothing? I'll tell you why, because I haven't given up on you, not yet. Look, "If he did". IF. Yes, welcome to where everyone else was 24 hours ago, even IF he did those things, he is still a human being, well done. I will take that as a victory for the point I made about punitive vs rehabilitation measures in the Clarkson threads, it only took you a fortnight to get it. But what is interesting here is that you won't state as fact that he did those things, even though you have told us to do exactly that. Why Ed. Think long and hard about why you used the word if there. That is all we have ever been asking of you, to acknowledge that your opinion is not necessarily the facts. Eeesh, and back to the Ed who cannot tell fact from internal narrative. Interestingly, if Phillip Bloom had lawyered up, as you suggested would be the actions of an innocent man, you would now be in a lot of trouble - you have put your true identity to that statement and if PB turns out to be innocent, he can take you to the cleaners over this. Fortunately for you, PB doesn't seem interested in using the threat of legal action to close down discussion on the matter, which is a clue to his confidence in the validity of his argument. Well, then answer the ones I asked, otherwise these words continue to be hollow and false. How would you respond to a cop arresting someone without evidence, but opinion? How would you react if a jury convicted a man on gut instinct. Remember, that jury could be anyone, including the people writing vile messages to the two women, would you be happy for those unpleasant individuals using their gut instinct on a jury in the trial of Phillip Bloom? If you want to act as "cop and jury", that's OK, that's not our problem. Our problem is you reacting as "corrupt cop and bent jury". If you will act as cop, then apply the same standards of excellence you wish to see from the police to yourself when you act, if you must act as jury, then you must act to the standards you expect of any jury. Do that and you will be doing the same as the rest of us. Now I did say we were going to get back to tour "credentials to have an opinion". You are inherently hypocritical, no-one minds that you have an opinion, no-one minds that you are telling us what it is. What people mind is that you are telling other people that their opinions based on the precise same information you have is wrong. That is arrogance in the extreme, and hypocritical because you are attempting to take away our "credentials to an opinion". For what it's worth, my opinion matches yours. But it's not worth a damn thing to anyone else other than myself, sure we could have had a nice little circlejerk where we congratulated each other on having matching opinions BUT it would have achieved nothing. By asking you difficult questions, by playing devils advocate, by challenging you views, I have achieved a lot more than if we had sat around and gave each others epeens a boner.3 points -

So, you're a talented enough psychologist to be able to, without meeting or talking to PB, judge his guilt based on how he reacted to the accusations? Because this is my desk. Those books are, among other things on psychology, criminal psychology and the psychology of abuse. I specialised in domestic abuse for over a decade and I can tell you right now, that in my professional opinion, philip blooms actions do not indicate a trend towards innocence or guilt. Are you better read and more up to date than me? Do you have more professional experience than me? No, because if you had even a years training you would know enough to know that you cannot understand someone's motivations without weeks of high intensity - read inpatient - work with them in a 1 to 1 situation. You wouldn't be making ridiculous statements like the one above. If anything, "lawyering up" straight away is a warning sign of guilt. As for being a part of your interview, I have already spoken with you over email about this. I have given you my conditions which you agreed to. It was you who told me that you couldn't do it for a week because of your work, I am ready from Monday midday GMT, as I told you in my email to be interviewed. Do you wish to cancel now you know a bit more about my angle and experience. As for being on trial, feel free to use my name, I hope you reference it properly at the end, with a link to a backed up copy of all your many threads on the topic, so your readers can see that yes, I absolutely have asked you difficult questions, and you have ducked them all. What do you feel I will do to you if I find you guilty of judging a man on circumstantial evidence?2 points -

Shogun would take the raw, most likely. It is for other cameras. How else to resuscitate such a dud in the YAGH interface unit? And why is it on sale at Media Markt in Berlin alongside compact cameras? The mind boggles.1 point -
My open letter to Panasonic. DVX200 will be lonely, needs a brother called AF200!
JazzBox reacted to Andrew Reid for a topic
Even if they gave us raw via the YAGH only it would be better than doing nothing and not selling any YAGH LOL boxes. The one in Berlin near me is reduced from 2200 to 900 so I can't assume it has been flying off the shelves. Panasonic need to stop making silly mistakes. Before the YAGH came out I told them in a feedback session exactly what design it should have, and they went and made something completely ridiculous.1 point -
I agree they need to make an AF100 follow-up, and this is't it. That said, I have less than zero interest in an AF200. I simply wouldn't buy one. As for this new DVX200, Panasonic has my attention and I'll be seriously considering it for our 4k productions later this year.1 point

Honestly I think some people need to either cough up more cash or quit whining so much and learn the benefits of patience. VLOG will come out or they wouldn't be beta testing it now with these guys. Panasonic knows how important it is. If they didn't they will know it when they look at the Ursa Mini. The price difference between an entry-level Mini and introductory price GH4 is so low that they have to be worried. If you think that VLOG is mandatory you either have the wrong camera for the job or you haven't learned how to expose properly. The most impressive VLOG demo in that video is the side to side comparison outdoor with a bright background sky that's blown out. Go get yourself an ND grad. Jesus. You have to learn how to work within your limitations no matter what camera you bought. I bought a GH4 for personal projects because for the most part it's easy to use, has 4k and looks pretty damn good out of the box. For my high-end projects I do the same as everyone else - work out the budget and part of that is renting high end lenses and cameras. When your looking at a multi-million dollar budget, the cost of renting your cameras comes to practically zero. Now stop whining and go create some awesome stuff with your GH4, A7S, Pocket Camera or whatever. It's all good. Remember that the Wachowski's could have made millions even if the only version of the Matrix they had was an iPhone video.1 point

What a shame, upsetting NAB from Panasonic. No interchangeable lens camera and GH4 didn't get V-log or 2.35 guidelines! Most of us don't use actual anamorphic lenses, we would just like to have the guidelines as a reference even if we've been able to compose for it. URSA Minor 4.6K is the star of the show1 point

Blackmagic URSA Mini - $2995 - official thread
Christina Ava reacted to Endfallow Media for a topic
Well said. I'm personally still very excited about The URSA Mini, but the 5k price isn't the real cost of owning. For a cheap-as-possible solution I figure: Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K - Real Cost of Owning: - $ 4995 - 4.6K body - $ 1200 - Media/CFast 2.0 Card(s) = (Roughly 2 hours of Record Time?) - $ 95 - BM V-Vount Adapter - $ 500 - Cheap V-mount Batteries (2) and Charger --------------------- So, without glass and "non-essentials' like a top handle/plate/support, your still looking around $7000 to get into this cam as a functional unit.1 point -
I am very satisfied with my gh4's but the hype around this firmwware got me to expect more. For me, V-log won't matter, i struggle with gh4 in low light shooting weddings that i constantly switch between different profiles for daylight and indoors, flat profiles for low light is a disaster, especially for gh4 sensor. i.Dynamic pushes the DR to the max, there is little one could do in post, even with v-log or RAW, you get noise and detail that it's unsuable from all the noise. I watched the camerastore review of the firmware and damn that noise, gh4 can do better but not by much, better bring that speedbooster and that 1.4 lens if you want to shoot in low light, and forget about v-log. I would've wished for 10 bit 422 internally for better grading with masks, even if it was FHD. Panasonic already has my money, good stuff this new firmware, for some people.1 point

Surely great initial pricing. But it's just the modular base core. Don't fool yourself that's it then, you're going to want the modules like the viewfinder and the shoulder/tripod kit that they show it with and so on. So you're not quite there for that one price yet.1 point

Imagine if you could buy a DJI copter specialised for the BMMCC, with a Blackmagic speedbooster, all in one set. Or even all integrated into one package.1 point -
It would appear Detective Ed has appointed himself judge and jury. Therefore his abuse of Bloom is justified. And make no mistake Ed, what you are doing is incredibly abusive, destructive, and hurtful to Bloom. How would you feel if you were accused of child molestation and almost overnight had your reputation destroyed by people who said they were just standing up for the victims of child sexual abuse? Look up the McMartin preschool trial. Not every accusation turns out to be legit Ed. And you know very little about what happened between Bloom and these ladies. The bottom line is none of us know what really happened. But you've convinced yourself Bloom is guilty and deserving of your abuse. Shameful. What you are doing, your behavior, is completely shameful. I ask you to please reconsider behavior and stop it. You are doing great harm with your witch hunt to what could very well be a completely innocent person.1 point

I read the first two paragraphs and stopped there. This is the most unfair conclusion You could have drawn from your self-righteous rant. You drew conclusions based on your opinion and whoever didn't agree with your assertions you labeled as someone who does not care about domestic violence, when in fact I did not read one statement that supports your thesis on this blog. You are creating false narratives and unfairly labeling people as sexist, pro domestic abuse, or whatever nonsense you want to believe. The only thing I have really read, other than a few jokes, are people who are trying to be objective to your subjective rants that hold no basis in truth because the truth is only known by 3 people... None of which you are. If for some reason at the end of your self-righteous diatribe, you apologized for putting words in people's mouth and forcing your opinion on others, then I am sorry for my beginning statement.1 point
