    5D IV vs A7S II

Do we even need to speculate about the Canon 5Dmk4? As it is sooo easy to predict: 1) they'll sell bucket loads of it. (thanks to their marketing machine, their size, and retail presence, and idiot friends giving recommendations to their mates while not having a clue....) 2) but tech spec gear heads like ourselves who actually know their sh*t will be very very disappointed in what a flop it is.

  3. The Nikon 11-16 is probably the easiest/best way to get close. You can get a used 11-16 v1 for not much more than the 10-18 goes for, and you get a lot in return for the extra money, the fast, constant aperture being the biggest one.

    Why APSC is dead

  6. From what I have read from multiple sources the 40mm STM and this new 50mm STM do not enable face-detection AF on the C-line cameras. A real pity =( I'm currently invested in the m43 system for my business but have been researching the C100 Mark 2 for a potential new A Cam. It looks like a fantastic machine. However... the one thing that I currently see as a weakness for the Canon C-line cameras is... the lenses. I know you must think I'm crazy, people are always singing the praises over Canon's incredible lens line up, but I just don't see it for their Super 35mm sensors. I either have to buy very expensive L lenses that have focal lengths and image circles designed for full frame, or sharp EF-S lenses that have plastic build quality, un-cinema-friendly zoom/focus rings and very uninspiring aperture ranges. If I spend £4000 on a camera, I want an awesome standard zoom lens that uses all the features the camera is offering. I want f/2.8 throughout the range (so I can gain the advantage of the Super 35mm sensor!), I want 24mm full-frame equivalent at the wide end, I want a beautifully smooth zoom and focus ring so I can operate old school, and I also want OIS and all those sexy AF options at my fingertips so I can nail more shots on the fly. Maybe I want too much? =) Anyway, I love the image I can get from my GH4, and I love my Olympus 12-40mm lens. It's a real swiss army knife of a lens with its clutched hard-stopped focus ring, great zoom ring, constant f/2.8 and that wonderfully handy minimum focus distance, and the whole package weather-sealed. Okay, no OIS, but it does everything else perfectly and no problem sticking it on my small Glidecam HD1000 for stabilised shots. Anyway, sorry to jump on your thread Ebrahim. I do like your posts, I just worry you are too deeply in love with Canon sometimes and she blinds you with marketing ;-) Canon still have some work to do before they get my hard-earned money. Strangely at the moment it's the lenses that are the biggest sticking point for me.

  7. The GH4 is one of the best video cameras around (for the price of course), you may have been just unlucky with the footage you got. The 5D2/3 videowise dont go anywhere close the GH4, let alone the NX1, and this camera doesnt seem to get close to neither.

I hate, absolutely hate sound, this microphone seems like it will take away some of the chore out audio work. The in camera recording sounded pretty damn usable to me, for run and gun work and then the wav recording is just icing on the cake... Or vice versa. Thanks again for posting this thread. I never would have found this mic without it.

  9. YIKES!!! Just got back from reading the comments on DPReview, regarding the 1.30 update. Jeez, it's already eroded into a flame war with members fighting over everything from VHS vs. Beta, to Sony/Samsung washing machines. Basically anything but the new firmware. In contrast, EOSHD community members are actually testing and discussing the firmware in a civil manner. Gotta say, we've a good thing going on here, fellas/ladies. I'm pleased to be a part of this community.

I was thinking of a Sennheiser too at some point of time. Now, I have a Zoom H1 equivalent, AND an on-camera mic (Dual Sound). I have the NTG2 btw, as well. About the sound setting, I used similar settings, but this guy is into wedding videos. I use it more for shorts and some channel work.

  11. So they are listening. This is what I put forward (among others probably). A half way house between bad detail and bad rolling shutter: acceptable both. Obviously its imposible to eliminate aliasing with line skipping but perhaps it isn't as bad as before? It will be very interesting to see tests of this. The sound with 120fps is also realy cool.

This in No Way suggests that I won't be posting test of the dual sound quality. As a matter of fact, I maybtest this for clipping as well, since it highlights an interesting features. Check this video till I am able to post my own test.

  14. Yeah, while every update is most welcomed, not many are here from that list. Let's hope it's just a matter of time.

If they offer a body only for $699 or less, this will probably be my next camera. I would love to be able to score this and the FZ1000 for less than $1200.

  16. Geoff hits on another good point. He uses the Adobe suite in a PC environment, I use it on a mac. (This is actually a really huge benefit in contrast to FCPX.) I could send Geoff my assets and project files from a project we're working on together, and though we work on different systems - Mac/Windows, he can access everything and immediately start working in a Windows environment, without missing beat. I've had to do this several times, and though I now it for granted, it's a wonderful "feature".

  17. Personally I use Premiere due to it's photoshop/After Effects/Speedgrade intergration. I like the idea behind the method that FCPX uses, but I work on PC systems that I build myself, so it's not an option.

  18. One thing I forgot to add is FCP X for all its greatness does not have curve for exposure. It only handles shadows, mids and highlights with 3 fixed points (I assume which means linearly). This looks really weird to me and I need to find some plugin because it's not enough. Anyone have any tips?

  19. If your already decided, certainly act on it, but I actually migrated the other way. I started in FCP5 and loved it through 7. A fanboy for sure. When FCPX dropped, I was really excited. It looked slick and I was excited to try something different, but in end it didn't seem to work for me (granted, it has gotten better since). Since I already used and owned Adobe software (AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator), I figured I'd give it a go and I haven't looked back. I ended up really liking the way all the different programs effortlessly synced together, which made a profoundly positive difference in the speed and efficiency of my workflow. Additionally, Motion doesn't even hold a candle to AfterEffects. Even when I used FCP, I used AfterEffects, awful round-tripping and all. All that said, they both are great tools and there's nothing that says you have to stick to just one. Aside from having a favorite, and we all do, any editor worth his salt should be able to work in the big three: AVID, FCP/X, Premiere Pro. (With a +1 for Davinci, who's really had some growth in the editor features department.) Good news is, they all have free versions/trials, so go play, my friend! I'd be interested to see which you one/ones you end with, so keep us posted. =] *Oh, and welcome to the community!

  20. +1 for FCPX, it is much faster in several cases, and i think it is really easy to learn Davinci Resolve Lite + Final Cut Pro X is far enough to make magic

  21. I like Premiere because it was obvious where everything was, even if it wasn't particularly efficient at anything. FCPX at first seems unintuitive because it's so different, but they save you a lot of time once you learn them. In terms of design FCPX looks like its going towards the future, whereas Premiere just wants to stay the same. This philosophy trickles into the code base as well. Adobe refuses to rebuild Premiere, they just keep stacking code on code which creates tons of bugs.I found so many bugs with Premiere and corrupted projects that I just bought FCPX and never touched premiere again. Premiere ranks with some of the worst product experiences I've had, and the other two are Microsoft (Windows OS and Bing Ads).

  22. Choose which you feel better, both are great tools; I'm a Adobe user but FCPX has been improving over the time and i really like the interface more than the Premiere Pro but I'm already used to Premiere. In your case my recommendation it go for the FCPX because is a lot cheaper and at the end both make the task.

  23. I'd stick with fcx and substitute motion for after effects.
