Werner Herzog Reviews the Sony F35, Red One MX, and Digital Bolex 16!

How can I be amused when the cold blue deepness projects into the void of the horizon and reflects back nothingness? Here on the edge of this urban wilderness, we ask ourselves, are we more or less than this visible spectrum? Spinning like a dancer. Like photons; never existing but always existing Yet, the dog continues running alongside his master. Day after day for hundreds of miles.4 points -

Here's the response from Werner, "I put a look on the skintone because we are trying to make the thing naturalized - and we can't if its flat - if I show you the raw image - then you have to do the work. So we are trying to save your time. Which is very, very valuable. I am sorry that me and my team did a bad job on the skin tones and that they look too Hollywood - we will try better next time if we don't all die very quickly by accident by a comet or something just as random as that, like getting hit by a stray bullet."2 points -
Anyone try the Zeiss Otus 55mm F/1.4 or 85mm F/1.4? Looks amazing. Possibly better than the CP2's or Canon Cine Primes. Check out the Canon 1D C with the Zeiss Otus 55mm:1 point

I received one of these today. It's a cheap (£34) lens that comes with its own soft little faux-leather pouch, adapter ring and macro step up. The lens is made of metal, has a front thread and has well dampened rings that have grooves. It has a minimum focus distance of around 25cm though it is marked as 30cm. The size is perfect for small cameras like the Panasonic GX7 or Sony a6000. It is optically superb with similar centre sharpness to my Olympus 17mm f1.8. Certainly sharper than any other cheap lens I've bought. Also minimal flaring and CA. Colour-wise it reduces the saturation of reds/oranges which is actually beneficial on Panasonic cameras because they tend to overdo them. Also it is a low-contrast lens which helps with getting flatter images in video. The only downside I've found so far is that it is actually more than 1.5 stops darker than the aforementioned Oly lens. Now whether this is because its aperture is actually smaller than advertised or just because of low-transmission elements I don't know (would need a Panny 25mm f1.4 to compare). Has anyone else had a similar experience?1 point

Yes, I have this lens and the 50mm. Both are excellent. I love how blue the sky looks when I shoot with this lens. With my nex it's a treat to use with focus peaking but I am selling the nex and not sure how it will fare with my eos-m. I found myself comparing it with the Fujian and it is way more clinical compared to it but I guess compared to a nikkor or something, it would look pretty dream like and muted. Overall it's a nice little lens. I bought mine from rainbowimaging and in their listing, it states that the lens is actually a 2.2 or a 2.5. Supposedly the manufacturer misprinted them... Or some shit.1 point

BUG SAMSUNG NX1??

I think I've been able to replicate this. The video feed appears skittish, oscillating back and forth on a 45 deg(ish) angle around a central point. I know the NX1 has a dedicated splitter chip, maybe the freq of the vid output with the chip is doing something. The rest of the HUD is stable right?1 point -
Take a look at Velbon Ultra REXI L, - a review here: http://www.ephotozine.com/article/velbon-ultra-rexi-l-tripod-review-16157 It is not carbon but magnesium. I have had it for 2 years and it has proved to be very durable, can go high and very low and is very stable. I have used it with a G6 camera, a Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8 ( pretty heavy lens) and some small rails and a 0,9 kg videohead - in total around 2 kg - with no problems.1 point

And a pan to check the dynamic range, also from Indian Canyons. I shot this handheld, so stabilized it in post, but it's otherwise untouched. I don't believe there is any change to DR in 1.30.1 point

Werner says you are not allowed to find it funny about the context of the heavy look on the camera skintone test to obscure the results - which should not amuse you.1 point

Man, tough crowd, tough crowd. To address the comments 1. "This wasn't Werner - this was an imposter" - What do you mean, do you not recognize his voice? It was Werner Herzog. I have proof. Check my instagram feed, edwardcdavid 2. "Wait, did Lars Von Trier not executive produce your Charlie Chicken film about a dog artist whose medium is feces?" No, of course he did. I have his personal number. I met him on the set of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 3. "So why did Werner do a test?" Because he saw that Phil Bloom was leaving the camera review game after his latest plea on his Sony FS7 video that if he doesn't reach his "go fund me" goal, he'll never make another test. Werner felt he needed to come in and do a test, to make people feel better about themselves if they lose their camera reviews for free on vimeo. He just wants everyone to experience some sort of joy before, they die.1 point -
Where's the frontpage article? Revolutionary camera imo, for the budget shooter. The GH2 of 20151 point

I can't speak for this, but it should work. The image of the rear is out of focus so I can't really tell. To answer your question: The presence of the lens is trigged by a mechanical switch behind the lens mount. It's located at about 4-5 o'clock position if the lens mount is facing you.1 point
