I crowdfunded a feature on Kickstarter a couple years ago. You'd be surprised what happens when your project gains traction. I'd say i personally knew about half our backers before the campaign started, and had met in person even fewer. We even had two backers that gave $5000 each. One was a complete stranger to me that was browsing Kickstarter looking for movies that offered executive producer credits. The other was a screenwriting student of a friend of a friend. Our goal was $30,000 and we hit that a week before the deadline. The campaign ended at about $38,000, plus I had raised another $10,000 from people who didn't feel comfortable using Kickstarter and preferred to cut a check. Crowdsourcing is not the same as crowdfunding. Nothing wrong with either of them, you are not forcing anyone to pay or participate. I don't think it's easy to crowdfund a short film though. There is a lot of competition, you'll need to get your project in the spotlights. I think you won't succeed if you can't show anything. You should have a teaser/trailer or some previous work/films at least and it better be damn good... If the mentioned soundtrack is made by someone like Hans Zimmer you'll probably get away without showing anything. If it's someone nobody really knows, I wouldn't expect people to have much interest in it... Have a look at Kickstarter Movie projects. Plenty of examples that worked out great or didn't work at all. In most cases it's clear why it did work or didn't work. It might be easier to crowd source it. Look for a sponsor for your wardrobe, find some student actors / sound guy that want to work on their portfolio. Or 'pay' it yourself by doing some work for them in return.

I'm sorry, but that looks terrible. Don't know what he did to the footage, but that is not the fault of the NX1. Before it is slowed down with twixtor there is some sort of weird interpolation going on with a "ghost" of the guy in front of him.

It would be so much easier to be a painter or a writer. You don't have to have equipment. You don't have to do all the things. You're not at the mercy of gear. You're not here and you're not there. It's a terrible pain to be a filmmaker, because you not only have the creative problems, but you have financial problems that they don't have. You have technical problems that they don't have. You have machines that are breaking down in a way that paintbrushes don't break down. It's just a terrible thing to be a filmmaker. And if you are a filmmaker, it's because there is something in the sheer medium that seems to be able to make some sort of statement that you particularly want to make, and which no other medium to you seems capable of making in the same way. Not my words, but I do like them. As much as I go on about it's only about what you do with the equipment, not what equipment you have, filmmakers are tethered to the technology. Looking to buy fluid head and tripod for GH4, for mostly video vehicle tracking shots: fast cars, airplane landings etc. Thats both fast and slow tracking, panning and tilting. There was a similar topic with 701hdv, but it was 2 years ago and there is new stuff available. 1. I've thought about Manfr 500 or similar like 502 - what do you think, buy 500 or 502 or other? I am also looking for tripod allowing me to make shots from eye level perspective, and as light and small ( max 52 cm ) as it could be in a normal price range. 2. Any suggestions? Price for whole set: tripod + head = < 350Euro.

I really don't understand why anyone would prefer D (in the chewing gum part). It looks absolutely terrible... Digital artefacts all over the place, too dark and it looks like upscaled sd from a VHS tape...

The little GM1 looked great across the board to me, especially in the outdoors shot and DR. Though I picked the blackmagic in the first scene as best.

She had no previous experience or anything else to show. Her key to success was two-fold: identifying a unmet need in a niche topic of interest and spending 8hrs a day on Facebook or similar building an audience in that niche.

So there is still no alternative for Atomos if you like to shoot 4K on Sony As, is not it? I wonder why no one has made a simple solution for A7s, without the external monitor, but only a recorder part.

Yeah, jax has beaten me to it. The MV88 looks nice for on-the-go, but clearly states it's iOS devices only indeed (kinda same idea as the i-XY: http://www.rode.com/microphones/ixy ). The rest of the range should be compatible from what I get from the broshure ( http://cdn.shure.com/brochure/upload/78/motiv-brochure-english.pdf ). Anyways. That aside. About your own little solution. Now, how does that actually work? What is your used brand/type of mobile phone then? And just to get this straight... you're then using the smartphone's mic? And where does 'a wifi stick' come in play exactly? Perhaps you can upload it using https://www.mediafire.com or https://soundcloud.com for example.

As far as I can tell, there's only one out of the whole range that is limited to iOS device only - and that is purely because it connects via a Lightning adapter built into the microphone itself. All the others can be used on pretty much any device. I'm not really sure how useful they are for real filmmaking though. The lavaliers might be cheaper than traditionally expensive wireless lavs - but the phone preamps are rarely going to be any good.

Panasonic LUMIX G 42.5mm f/1.7 Aspherical Power O.I.S. Lens Micro Four Thirds I'm a M43 shooter most of time. For me, a 40mm-ish lens offers an ideal focal length for cinematic imaging. I find I like doing a lot of my shots at this focal length on M43. Often it's all I go out into the field with for certain gigs. I do this to keep my sessions aesthetically cohesive. I have an Oly 45mm 1.8. I might carry along my Pany 20mm for some wider stuff, but I'm just not as enamored with it as I am the 45. The documentary I'm currently working on is about 75% shot on my 45mm, and almost all those shots are making it into the edit. Zooms I don't really like. I use them for corporate work, never really for my own shooting. I like to recommend people shoot with only one lens for stuff. It's really great limiting your focal length options; forces you to think in a certain visual vocabulary. The last short I did was all with a 25mm 2.8. Primes are the best!

Nikon mount. Currently no great option for EOS lenses if you want aperture control. Nikon work on everything.

I would say it means Nikon Mount so you can control aperture on the NX1.

I get the feeling that Andrew Reid created you in his lab to keep the clickbait going in his absence
